Season’s greetings Sherwood families, I want to start with a big thank you to all parents who attended Parent-Teacher inter-views. Please keep in mind that you can contact your child’s teacher at any time to check on their progress. You can write a note in their agenda or call the school and leave a message for the teacher to let them know that you would like an update. They will get back to you as soon as possible. Open communication between parents and teachers is a great way to support our chil-dren’s learning. In December, we will be having a number of events. Our first events happen on Saturday, December 3rd. That day we will be having our Annual Christmas Craft Sale at the school from 9-1, and our school will be entering a float in the Santa Claus Parade which begins at 1pm. Throughout the month, our students will still be working hard on curriculum but we will be offering some fun activities to recognize the holiday season. On the evening of De-cember 13th, our Kindergarten to grade 8 students will be hosting our Christmas concert. Students will be working in class to pre-pare for this performance. We hope that you’ll be able to attend. During the last week before the break we have a number of spirit days planned for the students. On Thursday, December 22nd we
will be having a whole-school turkey “dinner” (at lunch) in the caf-eteria. Our students will also be going skating and having some time to socialize on the last day before the break. Specific infor-mation about the concert, a list of the spirit days, and information about the lunch and skating can be found in this newsletter. I would like to take a moment to send my wishes to the entire Sherwood community that they have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. During the winter break I would encourage you to enjoy the time that your family has together. In our busy lives it is important to slow down sometimes and enjoy the company of the people that we care the most about. To our students, I would encourage you to start planning activities that you can do over the break, both inside and outside of the house. The winter break is a great time to relax but I hope that you don’t waste your entire break in front of the TV, video games, or computer. Please take advantage of the wonderful outdoor activities that we have in the winter. You can also help your mom, dad, or grandma and grandpa to get some jobs done around the house so that they have more time to spend with you. Have a safe and happy holiday everyone. Sincerely, Steve Griffiths

A Message from the Renfrew County Child
Poverty Action Network
Snowsuit Drive
For the past few
years CPAN has
run a snowsuit and
footwear campaign
called Operation Snowsuit, the
goal of this campaign is to en-
sure that every child living in
our community has appropriate
clothing and footwear for our
severe Canadian winter. We
are asking for your help to reach
this goal.
Sherwood has been collecting
new and/or gently used snow-
suits and footwear on behalf
of CPAN. Please take this
opportunity to check your clos-
ets and donate any snowsuits
and/or boots that your child (or
children) may have outgrown.
Please note: These must be
clean and in good repair as
CPAN does not have facilities
or the manpower to clean or
repair these items. New items
and/or cash donations are also
very gratefully received.
If you, or someone you know is
in need help please feel free to
call, CPAN can be reached at
613-735-2374 ex 250, or ext
244. Please leave a detailed
message. We will need to
know: your name and a phone
number where you can be
reached, the name of the child in
need, snowsuit and boot size,
and include the gender of
your child/children. We will
be taking requests starting
immediately. Since this program started
we have been able to keep
hundreds of children warm
and dry, we have always been
able to fill each and every re-
quest. Any help that you can
provide is gratefully appreciat-
ed, and I would like to thank
you in advance for your time,
and for any support you may
give to this very worthy cause.
Watch for Sherwood’s Float in this years Santa Claus Parade on
Saturday, December 3rd!
Theme:
Santa’s Hawaiian Vacation
Many thanks to our parent and student volunteers who made this event possible!
With the cold weather coming and going over the past
few weeks I want to stress the importance of sending
your children to school dressed appropriately for the
weather. A number of our students, both young and
old, are coming to school without toques, mitts, and
sometimes even coats! When the snow does come,
again, it is also very important that the students have
spare mitts because they often get wet from playing in
the snow. The best type of mitts for playing in the
snow are ones with a water resistant shell. Fleece and
knit mittens/gloves are
great for staying warm but
don’t offer much protection
once they get wet.

Nutrition Program at Sherwood
We are pleased to report
that our Nutrition Program is
going strong at Sherwood! A
BIG thank you to our group
of parent volunteers
who make a tremen-dous effort to come in every Tuesday
and Thursday morn-
ing to prepare the snacks
for our students.
We couldn’t do it without
them. Thank you Denise
Brotton, Sherry Kim
Quesnelle, Natalie Barring-
ton, Karen Dombroskie &
Celeste Goodyear!
We are excited to provide a Christmas Dinner (for
lunch!) for all students at Sherwood on Thursday,
December 22nd. Our parent volunteers will be
cooking a full turkey dinner complete with pota-
toes, veggies, stuffing and dessert!
All students will eat in the cafeteria that day to
enjoy this “Sherwood Family” time together!
We are asking for students to donate $2 each to
help offset the cost of the meal but if you are
unable to, your student will still
join us for this special event.
If any parents can volunteer to
help serve the buffet line that
day, please call the school at:

Community News
The annual St Francis Valley Healthcare Foun-dations’ Tree of Lights
Campaign is a special one that gives us all the opportunity to honour or remember someone spe-cial at Christmas time. Donations for “bulbs” that help light up the Christmas Tree are made in sup-port of some of the many equipment local healthcare needs, including at the St Francis Me-morial Hospital. To help celebrate the Campaign and the generosi-ty of the many supporters, a Community Tree Lighting will be held at the historic Railroad Station in Barry’s Bay on the evening of Friday December 2nd @ 6:30 p.m. A wonderful event for the whole family, all are invited to come out and enjoy horse drawn wagon rides, balloon artist creations, com-plimentary hot chocolate and coffee, homemade cookies, caroling and a Tree Lighting with special Angels from our elementary schools. An additional Tree lighting will be held on Sunday Dec 4th @ 6 p.m. in Palmer Rapids called the Tree of Love. For more information, contact the SFVH Foundation @ 613-756-3044 ex 217.
