Last summer, the activities kicked off each daywith the “Beach Special”, where all ages cametogether at the cliff-top marquee on The Leesfor music, games, drama and fun, and to introduce the day’s theme. Guest appearancesfrom the Funky Chicken and “Mr Cornetto”with his bizarre ice-creamsadded to the frolics. The childrenand young people then split intoage-groups for their “GoingDeeper” to explore that day’stheme in more depth beforebreaking for lunch. The afternoons saw a “build a boat”challenge on the Sheringhamboating lake, mini-Olympicsat the High School and a tidefight on the beach. There was a circus-themed afternoon withbarbecue on the last day, whenthe Lees resounded with screamsof laughter, as nearly 100 children and young people enjoyed circus activities, stocks, plate-spinning, sumo-wrestling, space-hoppers, and a bouncy castle.

Evening activities for over-11s included atreasure hunt around the town, swimming at“The Splash” and a “quiz and chips” evening, all of which were well attended.

This year’s outreach will run from Tuesday 27

to Friday 30 August 2013, anyone wishing tojoin the team is invited to submit an applicationform, which can be downloaded from the website. Returningteam members fromlast year should also

re-apply,but theyhave a shorter form. All applications must be in by June 30 at thelatest. There will be a training afternoon for allteam members on Saturday July 13.

“BeachLife has been a huge success, andlarge numbers of children and youngpeople have had loads of fun whilst finding out more about God" said organiser Pete Skivington, "But we intend to build on that success, and areplanning for this year's outreach to beeven bigger, brighter, and possiblylouder than last year.”

Sheringham Medical Practice Patient ParticipationGroup (PPG) - June Monthly news

The role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP)It is a year since the Sheringham Medical Practice employed two Nurse Practitioners, Jeanette Rigby and Angela Helmsetter. They areboth very experienced and qualified nurses who have undertaken extended training to enable them to see patients with a wide variety of conditions and minor injuries. Both of them are able to prescribemedications, organise investigations such as X -rays and blood tests and refer on to secondary care if needed such as physiotherapy, dermatology and the breast clinic.

There is a Nurse Practitioner on duty every weekday morning and afternoon. Patients do not have to go through the telephone triage system and can either book appointments in advance or on the day. They are also available for telephone advice if required.

The NP service enables the Doctors to have more capacity to see the patients who have more complicated and time consuming conditions.

If you would like to speak to someone confidentially in the PPG, eitherwith a concern or you would like to get involved then please do contactPauline Craske, (Practice Manager) Tel 01263 820512 or Noel Gant (patient member)Tel 01263 825538.

The Practice’s patient newsletter will be available in June.

The sun has come out and our sous chef, AllyStreatfield, has come up with a great pastarecipe that I’m sure will feature on our specialsboards all summer. SHERINGHAM HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY JUNENEWSThe Sheringham Horticultural Society is celebrating the retention of the cup awarded atthe annual Inter-Society Quiz between garden clubmembers from Cromer, Hoveton and Sheringham. The Community Hall in Cromer was packed with keen gardeners, made upinto tables of four, but it was one of the Sheringham teams comprisingJo Hayton, Sally Quarterman and Judy and Bob Wilkinson that finallytriumphed after trailing at the interval. Thanks are due to the Cromermembers who organised a very successful evening, with a delicious buffet and challenging questions on horticulture and general knowledge.

The next event on our calendar is the visit to Holt Hall on Thursday, 20June for a guided tour of the gardens with tea and cake. Members shouldmeet at 3pm at Holt Hall but I would appreciate a call from anyone whointends to be present to ensure adequate refreshments are available.

JAPANESEKNOTWEEDI have been asked to raise aware-ness to local people regarding theincidence of Japanese Knotweedbeing found in Sheringham. This is a Non Native Invasiveplant species (see picture) whichis notoriously difficult to controlonce it has become established.

A root which can extend up to 7mfrom the plant and reach 3m ormore in depth (particularly ofnote is that it can undermine foot-ings and some mortgage lenderswill not lend should there be such on the property)If you find Japanese Knotweed on your property you need to take immediate action:

• Seek advice from Conservation Officers on how to treat and destroy it.

• Obtain advice on suitable herbicides particularly near watercourses.• Seek advice from the Environment Agency on disposal of plant

material.

As a landlord or tenant it is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside act to spread the species around the countryside.

Brian Hannah, Norfolk County Councillor for Sheringham

When buying a property, particularlyif you are a first time buyer, there aremany matters you should consider. One issue is the costs involved in buying aproperty. The largest expense when buying aresidential property is usually the Stamp DutyLand Tax which is normally payable if theproperty you are buying is worth more than£125,000. It is important to budget for all theexpenses you will incur during your purchase. They include legal fees, a Land Registry feeand search fees with the local authority, watercompany and others.

If you plan to renovate or extend a propertyyou should check to see if it is a listed buildingor in a conservation area, as this will affectwhat you are allowed to do. You might need to apply for planning permission or listedbuilding consent before beginning work. Inaddition, you may also need to apply for

building regulations approval - your Solicitor

or the local Council will be able to give youmore information.

There can also sometimes be restrictions in the title deeds to a property requiring consentfrom a third party before an extension or conservatory is added. It is important to findout if this applies to your property, and this isnormally explained during the conveyancingprocess.

When buying a flat it is important to checkhow many years are left on the lease. Mostmortgage lenders require a minimum of themortgage term plus 25 years, and sometimeslonger than that. Your seller may need toarrange for the lease to be extended if there are not enough years left.

If you want to renovate a flat, there may be restrictions in the lease limiting what you cando with your property, such as preventing youfrom knocking down any internal walls. YourSolicitor will be able to advise you on this inmore detail.

Buying a property is, for most people, the most expensivepurchase they will make. It is worthwhile investigating your options carefully before proceeding.

It will be at the Morley clubon 15th June, finals start at 7-30 pm followed by pres-entation of trophies and a buffet. The ALBY BILLIARDS DARTS AND SNOOKERLEAGUE was formed in 1932 “to foster and improvethe games of Billiards, Darts and Snooker in a sport-ing atmosphere”, in the North Norfolk area.At its height there were 18 Billiards teams who also had a darts team playing at thesame time and venue and 48 Snooker teams in three or four divisions. KELLING PROBUSCLUBTwenty four members and one guest met at The Dales, Upper Sheringham on Thursday 16 May.

After lunch, Chairman John Dunsire introduced Mrs. Beverley Cooperwho gave a fascinating talk entitled “In the footsteps of our fathers”in which she described how she and a friend Melanie Hare retraced the route their fathers had taken in 1944 after the Normandy landings -Melanie’s father was Lt. Col. James Hare, serving with the Ox & BucksRegt. and Beverley’s father was Pvt. Cliff Turner, serving with theHighland LI.

They set off in June 2005 on a 2500 mile journey which was to takethem to Juno Beach in Normandy, and eventually to the town of ‘s-Hertogenbosch in Holland where Melanie’s father had been killed, she being just a baby at that time. Their route took them over the Pegasus Bridge, taken by glider troops, to La Bijude, a desolate spotwhere 36 men died, and Pierrefitte, where some German sentries disguised as trees had been caught in amusing circumstances.

Everywhere the two ladies went they were greeted with the utmost kindness, help and respect, and they were able to put together a remarkable collection of memories and memorabilia relating to thoseepic days. They crossed the Seine at Les Andelys, and the Somme atAmiens , going through Belgium, and entering Holland at Eindhoven. It was at ’s-Hertogenbosch where they were enquiring about a girl who,as a teenager at the time of the Allied liberation, had been seriouslywounded by a bomb, only to find that they were actually talking to herhusband. Beverley concluded her talk by showing us a Heuer 10 inchbladed knife which her father had taken from a German POW at Calaisafter VE day. David Coslett proposed a vote of thanks to Beverley forsuch an interesting and emotional account.

Secretary Geoffrey Goodman read the minutes of our last Meeting, andthe Chairman called for a Committee Meeting on Tuesday 27 May.

Our next Meeting is at The Dales on Thursday 20 June, when Cllr. BrianHannah will talk on “Restorative Justice”.

If you would like to join us, please call Kevin Clingo on 01263 824624.

“Work for all” was a corner stone of William Booth’s (the founder of the Salvation Army) social programme outlined in “Darkest England and The Way Out” and the first job centrewas established by the Salvation Armyas early as 1890. Today independent evidence demonstrates that good, worthwhile work is important tophysical, mental and spiritual health. The Salvation Army’s belief is that every individualis important to God and helping people to discover self worth through work, not only improves their self confidence and motivation, but helps contribute to their own, their family’sand their community welfare.

As a leading provider within the voluntary sector, with roots into community and a powerful motivation to work “with heart toGod and hand to man” The Salvation Army has an opportunity to provide a bridge betweenunemployed people and the local labour market.

EMPLOYMENT PLUS LOCAL in Sheringham commenced at the end of lastmonth at The Salvation Army Centre in Cremer Street running between the hours of10am -12noon initially. It will be a place whereunemployed people can find information andguidance on their journey into employment,

within a supportive environment. Attending E+ local is entirely voluntary, absolutely freeand is available to any unemployed person whois looking for work.

The primary activities at E+ local are to provide back to work support and to supportthe government’s new Digital strategy by improving awareness in the community.

We would want to provide:• Access to resources such as

Computer/laptops• Access to both local training

opportunities and basic IT courses to acquire new skills or improve existing ones.

• Help, advice and guidance to apply for jobs, including completion of job applications, CV writing and interview techniques.

• A secure, friendly, inviting place where one to one or group learning activities can be undertaken.

• Time! - an important ingredient when Job Centres are busy and have limited time to give to each client.

• Tea and Coffee

Access to such facilities has the potential tochange lives of unemployed people in the area.Due to the fact that the nearest Job Centre is inCromer and the surrounding areas are veryrural, the establishment of this programme willcould be of great benefit to many people in thevillages that surround Sheringham.

What is the + element?Barriers to finding work are diverse and oftentake a long time to address. Employment PlusLocal can become a familiar signposting point, directing people to a range of resources and advice within the community. There may be domestic or health issues, debt, housingproblems or addictions or other challenges that require long term support. What an employment plus local can add is a friendly, caring environment where people are interestedin the whole person, providing a personal, holistic and longer term response – providingcontinuity, without pressure where the participant can steadily progress at their own pace.

There are many stories around the countrywhere people have been helped by Employment Plus locals – “Work for All” onthe salvationarmy.orguk/employmentplus sitegives some excellent illustrations and we wantthe people of Sheringham and the surroundingdistricts to have all the help they can get infinding meaningful employment, and cope withthe ever changing digital world.

New Attraction in Briston! With so many country pubs closing these days, it is really encouragingto see one that has been given a new lease of life.

The former ‘Green Man’ at Briston has now reopened as the ‘ExplorerBar and Coffee House’.

Situated in Hall Street, just a couple of hundred yards south of the Copeman Centre, the new venture is already attracting loads offavourable comments from both villagers, holidaymakers, and otherNorfolk residents who want a comfortable place for a pint, a coffee, or something to eat. It has been completely refurbished throughout, and has loads of car parking right outside, although locals will no doubtmake sure their evening stroll will just happen to include this part ofHall Street!

At our meeting of Tuesday 14 May we welcomed back Patrick Thompson for his third visit to give us an ‘Update on Royalty’.

Patrick, who has now retired, was Deputy Master of Household for the Queen, and stillhas links with the royal family. Patrick is a natural and relaxed speaker, so his talk wasmore of a rambling chat than a structuredspeech although obviously, being a very loyalsubject of Her Majesty, he could not give awaytoo many secrets.

On 2 June it will be sixty years since theQueen’s Coronation. Patrick pointed out thatsoon she will be the longest reigning monarchever, surpassing even Queen Victoria’s longreign. This led him on to reminding us that ifwe know of any 100th birthdays or diamondwedding anniversaries approaching, we cannotexpect the Queen to have a list of all those upcoming events to hand so that she can send a card. It is up to friends and relations to tellher, and to send in a copy of the relevant birthor wedding certificate to ‘The Anniversary Officer, Buckingham Palace’ in good time. When the postman delivers a card they are

supposed to be signed for, since they are considered to be valuable items, but one of ourmembers who received a diamond weddingcard recently says she doesn’t remember signing! There are many, many more of thesespecial occasions nowadays than when theQueen began her reign.

Patrick wondered whether any of us had beento any of the open days at Buckingham Palace. While there he had purchased an apron fromamongst the ‘Luxury Goods’ at the Gift Shop, only to discover that it had been ‘Made inChina’! He complained, and was told it camefrom a UK supplier, but he insisted that theGift Shop should take pride in selling onlyBritish products from such a prestigious outlet. As a result, he is now sent any new Gift Shopcontracts to peruse before they are signed.

Patrick feels very privileged to have had somuch contact with our Queen, and told us thathe felt God had suited her uniquely for herrole. She has very blue eyes and the wonderfulability to make whoever she speaks to feel theyhave her whole attention. She also has a keensense of humour. She wholeheartedly entered

into the James Bond helicopter stunt for theopening ceremony of the Olympics. It seemsthat life in the royal household has changedconsiderably in the last few years, since theQueen Mother died. Previously, there had beenquite a Victorian atmosphere. Patrick also toldus that the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwallwere very close, and that the two princes wereglad that their father was with the woman heloved, although of course they would alwaysadore their mother.

It was a pleasure to listen to Patrick, who has a special knack for accents, and could rangefrom the royal accent when he spoke about‘Sarndringham’ to good, broad Norfolk for aNorfolk tale. Patrick grew up in Lowestoft, andnow lives in Gorleston. You might have caughta glimpse of him on TV at the opening of Parliament where he was ‘all scrambled eggand feathers’ as his father used to tell him, inhis official uniform. We hope it won’t be toolong before we have another update fromPatrick.

We are now looking forward to an outing to see ‘The Sound of Music’ on Cromer Pier, the Flower Festival, and our AGM before oursummer break.

This feast of choral and orchestralmusic will celebrate 80 years of music-making by the local choral society. Under the sparkling baton ofmusical director, Nathan Waring, thisperformance will also celebrate thecentenary of the birth of composerBenjamin Britten in a unique way. As well as performing his beautiful Te Deum in C and Jubilate Deo the choir will perform Gounod’s magnificent, yet rarely performed,Messe Solennelle de Sainte-Cecile as a personal tribute to Britten who wasborn on St Cecilia’s Day in 1913. StCecilia is the patron saint of musicians. And, all very fittingly, this concert willtake place in the Auden Theatre at Gresham’s where Britten himself attended school.

The soloists are three young opera singers, two with the Royal OperaHouse Covent Garden (Emma Smith soprano; Gavin Horsley bass) andone with Glyndebourne (William Knight tenor).

Another feature of the programme will be Saint-Saens fabulous Symphony 3. Known as the “Organ” symphony followers of the Babe movies may recognise the theme tune! For this extravagant performance, Nathan Waring will hand over his baton to Lawrence Tao,assistant musical director, and take to the keyboard on an organ whichwill be moved into the theatre especially for the occasion.

The orchestra will also perform VaughanWilliams English Folk Song Suite – most

suitable for what should be a very Eng-lish summer evening which will in-clude an extended interval so that the audience and musicians can enjoy an extended interval and picnic on thelawns outside the theatre. A wine barwill be available.

A similar picnic concert in 2012proved highly popular with a capacity audience and this year’s eventis expected to do the same.

Tickets available from the Auden Theatre Box Office 01263 713444priced £15 (£12 concessions – studentsand OAPs – under 18s FREE)

Quirky signs encourage people to enjoythe outdoors...Visitors to National Trust places in Norfolk will be forgiven for doing a double-take as they read signs tellingthem Keep on the Grass, Please Do Touch and RESERVED: for fun and games.

The colourful signs, which at first glance look like warnings or instructions, are part of a fun campaign by the Trust to encourage people to enjoy the natural worldall around them.

The conservation charity also wants to challenge out-dated misconceptions that it is all about rules or is a bit stuffy. It aims to make it easier for families in particular to feel comfortable exploring the great outdoors by breaking down perceived barriers or restrictions.

Ben Cowell, the National Trust’s Regional Director for the East of England, said “The National Trust cares for some truly special naturalplaces, such as woodlands, heaths, parks, beaches, gardens, fields andnature reserves.

“All of these places come to life in May and June, with bluebells, buttercups, rhododendrons and roses in bloom, while some of our most colourful wildlife, such as songbirds and butterflies, start to make an appearance.

“We know from research that some people still view us as being veryformal with lots of rules and regulations. I would encourage those people to come along and see how we have changed over the years. Weare experts at conservation of our built and natural heritage but we alsomake sure that we offer enjoyment and access to history, wildlife andoutdoor experiences too. We think these new signs are a fun, tongue-in-cheek way to help people reconnect with nature and enjoy our outdoor places to the full.”

The signs show messages like:• ATTENTION! You will need this to spot the

abundance of wildlife in this area • QUIET PLEASE – and take time to hear the birdsong • PHOTOGRAPHS taken from this spot look fantastic • PLEASE DO SIT HERE – it’s such a lovely spot

Visitors will be able to spot the signs at Blakeney Point, Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park, Oxburgh Hall and the BrancasterMillennium Activity Centre from the end of May and throughout June.

When I was a boy, a visit from the doctor was an important event. On each occasion I was routinely and carefully examined. A general appraisal of my appearance and colour, whilst I sat mutely with a thermometer stuck uncomfortable under my tongue, preceded observation of the state of my ears, eyes, tongue and throat with a littletorch and a wooden spatula employed withclose analytical attention – ‘say aaah …’

My pulse was taken, my back sounded withrhythmic taps of his fingers. Out from theblack medical bag came the stethoscope and I sat fascinated as Doctor dabbed the businessend around my thorax and abdomen, his eyesunfocussed and non-committal, murmurs ofuh-huh, ah-ha, hm-hm accompanied his auralexploration of my inner workings. All this tookabout ten minutes.

A rash or a pattern of spots usually produced a quick and certain diagnosis, particularly so ifsome of my pals were similarly afflicted, butthe examination routine was never skimped orskipped. My mother was instructed regardingmy care and a prescription issued on the spot. This was before the advent of the NHS, sothere was always anxious but careful consideration before sending for the doctor because his fee was settled by the patient, sothe call for his services was never casual or

frivolous and his careand attentionearned his living.Backthen doctorswere almost exclusivelymale and generallywere held in very high esteem in the community and accorded great respect and deference.

When the NHS was established, the ethics ofthe profession and its relationship with thecommunity carried on habitually, much as be-fore, except poorer people were relieved of the anxiety of bills for medical at-tention which previously they could not afford.

The system was still essentially local run ontraditional lines and worked pretty well as complaints were rarely heard.

Fast forward to today and the NHS is in apickle. Political interference over decades with more centralisation and diktats from a burgeoning bureaucracy has gradually

crushed the medical profession into a cynicalconformity in which the computer and the telephone are now the first response to the ill or wounded. General practitioners work office hours from grander premises and don’tturn out to visit the sick if they can avoid it.

Inefficiency is rife and the national organisation is so hopelessly huge andoverblown it has become unmanageable.

Buckets and spades, ice-creams on the promand award-winning beaches, North Norfolk’sseaside resorts are some of the best in thecountry – and that’s official.

Keep Britain Tidy announced last month thatNorth Norfolk has four award-winning resortbeaches, offering visitors great facilities, a litter free and safe environment and, in the case of Blue Flag awards, meeting the highestinternational water quality requirements.

Flying the flag for North Norfolk’s seaside resorts in 2013 are Cromer, Sheringham andSea Palling. All three are continuing the standard of excellence that was recognisedwith the awards of Blue Flag status last year. And this year East Runton beach has been

awarded the new Seaside Award, recognisingits high standards of beach management.

Cllr John Lee, Cabinet Member for Environmental, Leisure and Cultural Services, said, “We are delighted that three of NorthNorfolk’s Blue Flag resort beaches have retained their awards this year and that EastRunton has achieved the new Seaside Award. This, following the excellent comments we received in the Good Beach Guide earlier thisyear, confirms the district as a wonderfullyclean, tidy and safe place to live and to visit, with some of the best seaside resorts anywhere.”

Five North Norfolk beaches, these four plusMundesley beach, were recently awarded the

highly sought after ‘Recommended’ status inthe Marine Conservation Society’s ‘GoodBeach Guide’, which demands stringent waterquality standards.

To qualify for a prestigious Blue Flag resortbeaches must achieve a high standard ofbathing water quality, something that’s regularly monitored. But that’s not all. They must also show high standards of environmental education and information, such as clear signs and beach-related activitiesand events; environmental management, suchas clean and accessible toilets and beaches, with regular beach cleans; and safety – bathersat all NNDC Blue Flag beaches are protectedby RNLI Lifeguards.

We recently had a young cat of about eight months old handed into ourcare which was a stray and obviously quite poorly. First priority was toget her to the vets immediately to discover what the problem was and tocommence treatment. It was apparent to the vet that Millie was havinggreat difficulty breathing and an x-ray quickly identified the problem. This poor little cat had either been in a road traffic accident or beenkicked and had a punctured lung due to damaged ribs. The vet had reservations as to her chances of surviving and prescribed steroids and antibiotics to give her the best chance possible. It was then down to her fosterer to provide lots of loving care and ensure she was keptcalm and quiet to help her recover. It is now a month since Millie came into care and she is so much better. She will be gradually taken off the medication and we are hoping that, providing another x-ray indicates her lung continues to mend, she will be fit and well enough

to be neutered in a few weeks.

At our recent Plant Sale in North Walsham we raised nearly £600 for thecats in care. We thank everyone who supported us either by providingplants or coming to the sale. The winner of our Raffle was Mrs. JennyBates from Little Melton. Plansare now being finalised for theHog Roast on Sunday 23rdJune which will once again takeplace at Stephanie’s home inDilham. Tickets, still only £10each, are now available by contacting the “cat phone”.Why not come and join us? We usually have a good timeincluding those fined by thedreaded “Car Park Attendant”.

We recently had a call fromsomeone whose cat kept goingmissing. She was upset as she had discovered that a neighbour was feeding her cat and encouraging it to go into her home although she had asked her politely not to. This is unfair on the owner and on the cat and it should not be encouraged to stay unless with the owner’sagreement. It could also, of course, be classed as stealing should the cat take up permanent residence. If the owner is happy then that is a different matter.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten please give a call on 01692535858. Alternatively you can visit www.cats.org.uk/northwalshamfor a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a callon the above number.

If however you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kittenplease ring 07880 256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher).

What is a One Stitch Face Lift? The idea for the procedure was prompted by an old Hollywood trick in which actresses usedtape to pull slackened skin upward, takinggreat pains to hide the tape with hair or wigs. A Cosmetic Surgeon practicing in BeverlyHills took the concept and developed a procedure that would accomplish the feat more permanently.

How is the procedure performed? The One Stitch Face Lift is a minimally invasive procedure offering Face Lift like results, but without the need to undergo majorsurgery and resultant prolonged recovery. It isa brief procedure performed totally under alocal anaesthetic. We have modified it slightlyso that instead of relying on one stitch, we usea few hidden stiches under the skin. There arefew risks associated with the treatment and,due to its minimally invasive nature; it is safefor patients with diabetes, heart conditions orother medical problems. Most people find they

are able to return to normal activities the following day, but as there may be some associated swelling or bruising with the procedure, some may find it more comfortableto take a few days to recover.

What results will I see?The results are subtle but are often just enough to give patients a fresher and firmer appearance. Patients who are looking toachieve subtle results without prolonged recovery time will really benefit from this procedure.

What are the risks? With any procedure there are risks such as riskof bleeding, bruising and infection. Minimallyinvasive nature of this procedure however minimises these.Another name for this procedure is a FaceliftRetighten, which enables patients whosefacelifts have started to sag due to the ageingprocess to get an extra lift.

What alternative treatments are available? You can have non-surgical treatments such as aliquid facelift, a full or modified facelift or theinnovative laser facelift.

What are the costs? The fee for one stitch facelift is £1750 whichcompares very favorably with the cost of afacelift under a general anaesthetic.

The new Ford B-MAX with its ingenious Easy Access Door System. Jump right in.

ford.co.uk/B-MAX

B-Max TestedI had the opportunity to test drive the Ford B-Max supplied by East CoastMotors in Beach Road, Cromer, reports Pete Smewin. The B-Max is the Ford model between the Fiesta and Focus andis a really good recent innovativeand ingenious addition to TheFord range.

It comes in three styles, StudioZetec and the top of the range Titanium. The model I drove wasthe mid range Zetec.

It is a five-door, the rear doorsare sliding and when the frontand rear doors are open give youan impressive unobstructed 1.5metres opening making it easierto load and unload, especiallywhen you are strapping childreninto a child safety seat. The B-Max achieves this by concealing its central strengthening pillarwithin the doors rather than in the body side giving you the unobstructed opening. The frontpassenger and drivers seatbelts are housed within the seat structure rather than the bodyworkwhich was the only thing that I had to get used to.

The range consists of four petrol engines including the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine whichgained Ford the prestigious engine of the Year award in 2012.

The Zetec model I drove also features the Ford EcoMode driver information system, which is a smart software monitor of your driving style. It displays the impact on your cars fueleconomy, which definitely helped me change my style of driving. This was a delightfulexperience to drive this well equipped and responsive compact car and I could not fault it for comfort, ease of driving and its loading and unloading capabilities. All in all this is a very classy little car. Prices start from just £12,995.

I would urge you to give Adam or Graham, at East Coast Motors (01263 513181) an earlytelephone call to book your test drive in this impressive car. I do not think you will be disappointed.

Steve’s Got TalentA host of loyal excited fans thronged Cromer Pier on Friday 31st Mayhoping to get their photograph taken with ventriloquist Steve Hewlett who iscompeting in this years Britain's Got Talent The very talented and popular ventriloquist did not disappoint, inviting fansup onto the stage of the Pavilion Theatre to have their picture taken alongwith Arthur Lager Steve's cheeky and very forthright puppet. As alwaysArthur stole the lime light saying of Steve "He wouldn't have a job if I wasnot around".Steve said he was looking forward to performing in the semi final in front ofjudges Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Alesha Dixon and Amanda Holdenand says no matter what happens in the competition Cromer and the PavilionTheatre will always be one of his favourite places to perform.Steve was placed 'in the top three' of last weekend's show. Shadow act 'Attraction' won the outright place in the final based on public vote, leavingthe judges to decide between Steve and singer Jordan O'Keefe for the second place in this Saturday's final - judges votes were even so it was down tothe public vote to decide. Unfortunately this went in favour of the young singer, leaving Steve in third place. But all may not be lost - there is one lastchance of a place in this weekend's final by wild card - who will the judges choose as their wild card? Good luck Steve.

June WeddingJune is a special month,The month I chose to marry,I remember the day so well,The cream roses that I carried,The rustle of my silk dress,As I walked up the aisle,Then seeing the man I love,Turn to me and smile. But that was 50 years ago,The world is changing fast,As we sit in our garden,And reminisce about the past.

Thenabout two weeksago we noticed them taking extra food in the evening back to thenest. Then came the squeaky voices of feeding. And today there are 3 fluffy cute things flapping about in quiteungainly fashion.Brilliant.

The Federation of Small Businesses is holding an event at Fakenham racecourse on June 20for you to see the small businesses that exist in North Norfolk and what they have to offer.Nine out of ten businesses in the UK employ less than fifty people, with small firms often pro-viding services and creating fantastic products from their homes or a small office space. Un-like large firms, who often have advertising budgets and shop fronts to attract customers, small businesses can be reliant on word of mouth.Derek Baldry, who runs RAS accounting in Sheringham, has been in business in the townsince 1997, trying to give small firms more of an edge over the big guys. Derek has previouslyworked in the army, as well as previously being a retail manager for a national chain. It is this‘big business’ experience he is now passing on to the small firms which make up his cus-tomers. By measuring the purchase and selling activity of these firms each month, he is able totell them how well they are doing, before the end of the year when for some small firms it maybe too late. Helping small businesses to be proactive in facing any issues they may have is justone of the ways they can grow. The benefits to using a local business are numerous - for every pound you spend with a Sher-ingham firm around 70p stays in the local economy, compared to a maximum of 30p if youchoose a national business. Local firms also know their community and will often be involvedin supporting it in a number of ways. For Derek his long attachment to North Norfolk giveshim even more of a passion to help the businesses within the area thrive. Show your Business, at Fakenham Race Course, will be a great opportunity to see how whenyou choose to support a local business, you are often indirectly supporting a chain of othersmall firms, such as Derek’s, who help keep these businesses ticking over. The event aims toshow you a small business that you might never know existed, whether for a service like ac-counting, or an artisan producer! If we don’t use our independent and high quality firms, weare in danger of losing them and North Norfolk losing its quaint and unique charm.
