Special Note from the Administration

Greetings Parents/Guardians & STHS Wolves,

We just had a beautiful kickoff into the last semester of school. The awards

ceremony for A/AB Honor Roll, as well as Kids of Character, was held on Friday,

April 1st. Parents, teachers, and students attended and enjoyed this afternoon

affair. See students recognized at this event beginning on page 9.

All students and staff are working hard to achieve success in their respective

courses. In this final semester of the school year, students should be diligently

preparing for their AP and EOC exams. With only ten weeks of school remain-

ing, it is important for students to remain focused on their academics.

I am thrilled to share with you, our 5th block after school clubs are just won-

derful. Here's an update on a few: Cheerleading has spirited their way into our

hearts as they provide spirit and support at every school event; Ecology Club

has beautiful herbs and vegetables growing in the green house; Debate has

made us proud by bringing home numerous medals; and the Yearbook Club,

who has been taking thousands of photos, will begin taking Yearbook pre-

orders on April 15th.

Remember, homework assistance is available to all students on Tuesdays and

Thursdays from 1:45 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. Students attending 5th block events

may take the activity bus to one of the nine designated stops.

As always, thank you for your continued support.

nearby plants.

S.G.A. and the Ecology Club are seeking donations of

the following desired plants:

milkweed: broad leaf and common

pentas: red

imperial blue

passion vine

basil

mint

They are also in need of the

following items: black rubber mulch, 18 bags of garden

grade soil. Currently, we are planning on planting after

school on April 7 and 8. Any items you can donate will

be greatly appreciated!

Washington

D.C.!! Thanks to every-

one for their generous

participation.

“Pitch in” to Support Joe Dimaggio

Children’s Hospital

S.G.A.'s current fundraiser,

Health Life Management Classes Participate In Yoga Exercises!

~ By Judy Bracken, Health Life Management Teacher

On Friday, April Fools Day, the Personal Fitness classes

from Blocks 3 and 4 engaged in a YOGA class instructed

by Mrs. Schiling, 9th grade guidance counselor. She

engaged the students through beginning and flowing

yoga moves all while

listening to contem-

porary and familiar

music.

It was a great time

for our students to

experience the bene-

fits of yoga. The goal

was to help students

learn to embrace and

practice self-awareness, and empower them to take

ownership of their feelings, thoughts, and actions.

Thank you, Mrs. Schiling, for creating the experience

for our students.

World History Students Explore Women’s History

– Past, Present and Future!

Students in Ms. Fort’s World History Honors class

were tasked with researching famous women in

history and examining the contributions they made

and their influence on society.

The project was divided into 3 parts: Research on

Influential wom-

en from 1700-

1979 and one

from 1980-

Present, includ-

ing: their hero-

ine’s contributions

and the events that

led to them to advocate for their cause; Compari-

son/contrast between their two selected women.

Based on their research and analysis of both wom-

en, students would then determine how they

would continue to advocate for their causes to fur-

ther advance the public’s knowledge of these is-

sues and implement change in our society.

The above compo-

nents ultimately

became integrat-

ed into inspira-

tional essays on

their heroines pub-

lished through on

the My Hero Project (March’s “Website of the

Month”). Their compelling student-produced es-

says can be viewed at:

http://myhero.com/organizer/view3.asp?pageid=2436

This project required strategic thinking through

complex reasoning, planning, developing, synthe-

sizing, and publishing their finished product for all

the world to read! Kudos to Ms. Forte’s Class!

Counselor’s Corner: Mrs. Rattray (Gr. 10) & Mrs. Schiling (Gr. 9) Dear STHS Students and Parents:

Just a reminder that last month we introduced Family

Connection – a comprehensive website that you can

use to plan for college and a career. Family Connection

is linked with Naviance, a new service that we will be

using in our office to track and analyze data about col-

lege and career plans.

Our school has a website and each student has a per-

sonal Login ID and Password for accessing Family Con-

nection.

The website for Family Connection is:

https://connection.naviance.com/sheridantc .

The login ID is the student's 10 digit Student ID Number

and the Password is the student's date of birth in the

following format MM/DD/YYYY.

There is also a section on D2L, under "Guidance Gurus",

that has specific information on how to access different

parts of Family Connection. Be sure to check it out!

STHS Celebrates School Library and National Poetry Month!

April is an exciting month to observe the role school

library programs play for the services and resources

they provide to help our students to be successful—

today and tomorrow!

Our STHS Innovative Learning Center (school li-

brary) – serves as the heart and hub of our

school. It is our mission to provide our students,

staff, and families with the physical and virtual

(personalized and social) learning spaces that

allow learners to discover, uncover, and evaluate

essential information while cultivating their tech-

nological, visual, textual, and digital literacies—

all of which are crucial to success in the 21st cen-

tury.

My role as the Digital Learning Specialist relies

heavily on my collaboration with the classroom

teacher to ensure that our students become re-

sponsible, ethical, digital citizens and can effec-

tively access and use appropriate resources,

build knowledge, and creatively think and pro-

duce information to demonstrate their under-

standing or mastery of content.

Our celebration this month will focus on elec-

tronic books available through our Destiny collec-

tion! Additionally, be sure to check out

the School Library and National Poetry

Month Tab on our school web page @ http://

browardschools.libguides.com/sths_mediacenter

There you will find a rich array of resources to

celebrate this month along with the 2015-2016

With this in mind, during the month of April we will
