All staff are committed to maximizing this partnership and to enhancing their own practice through on-going, comprehensive professional development. Our focus is on consistent, clear and on-going communication with parents. Sheppard Public School is located at Keele Street and Sheppard Avenue West across from Downsview Park, Canada's 1st National Urban Park. The school was officially opened in 1958. More than half of our students speak a primary language other than English. Over 35 different languages are spoken. The most common languages spoken are Cantonese, Vietnamese, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Persian, Spanish, Gujarati, Mandarin and Swahili. Many of our students or their parents have immigrated to Canada. This diversity enhances and enriches our school community. School-wide literacy and numeracy programs We ensure a safe and successful learning environment for all students, staff and community members. through promoting our Code of Conduct and social skills programs. We attend to issues associated with ethnoculutral equity and inclusive educational programs that promote racial tolerance, understanding and harmony. We are implementing school-wide literacy and numeracy programs. Our teachers developed school-wide literacy and numeracy plans. We use assessment data to drive decision-making and to guide instruction. Science, social studies and the arts are integrated across the curriculum.

Parenting and Family Literacy Centre At Sheppard P.S. we have a very active Parenting Centre.  Parents'caregivers and children ``from babies to 6 years learn and playtogether in their local school.  The Centre has helpful informationabout other community resources, such as housing, health care,dental care, legal and employment services, plus libraries andmore.

Special Education Programs We have 3 self contained special education programs in ourschool.  They are the Kindergarten Intervention Program, thePrimary and Junior Behaviour Mild Intellectual Disability programs.

The Arts at Sheppard To enrich our student's lives with the Arts, not only do we havechoirs and an intinerant vocal music teacher, but we also havemusic, dance, concerts and performances.  We have a visual artiston staff who mentors aspiring artists. We have instrumental musicin our classes and partner with the Hammerband to provide freeviolin lessons to our grade 4s and 5s.

Sports at SheppardSheppard students are incredibly active and the Sheppard Dolphinsrepresent us in various sports tournaments for example basketballand floor hockey.

Student Life - Where You Belong

    At Sheppard Public School, students are involved in manyextracurricular activities.  All students can participate in theTerry Fox Run and House Leagues.  Our intramural sportsinclude 3-Pitch, Ball Hockey, Baseball, Floor Hockey andSoccer.  We also have school teams in Badminton,Basketball, Cricket, Cross Country, Soccer as well as Trackand Field.  Our clubs focus on art, reading, computers,knitting and games.  At Sheppard we are fortunate to havean itinerant Music Teacher who comes in to our school eachweek to teach three vocal music classes.  InternationalHeritage/Language classes are held one day a week afterschool.
