The company recommends the new colours for use with high-performance TPEs such as DuPont’s Hytrel thermoplastic polyester elastomers. The new colorants for copolyester TPEs contain no heavy-metal pigments yet provide the same inten- sity and colouring efficiency as conventional colours for engineering-grade TPEs, says market manager Eric Kalis. In addition, these concentrates have been formulated specifically for copolyester TPEs, which are often used in challenging applications because of their exceptional toughness, rubber-like resilience, chemical resistance and good performance at tem- perature extremes, he adds. According to Kalis, work on developing the new colour concentrates began in response to the growing use of copolyester TPEs as a buffer in optical fibre cables. There are 12 colours in the new RoHS-com- pliant concentrate series: black, blue, light blue, brown, grey, green, orange, purple, red, rose, white and yellow. Potential applications cited by Teknor Color include wire and cable insulation, jackets and fibre optic buffers, as well as injection and blow moulded parts, film, sheet and profiles.
