Welded column base plate with cage bolts gives a rigid sturdy footing for your shed. What starts right, ends right.
Columns are sturdy, structural Universal Beam to stop bowing, flexing or twisting.
Cleats are welded to the Universal Beam columns preventing movement and giving the strongest structure possible.
Welded connections made of plate steel provide a rigid mating for your roof structure.
Prefabricated connections mean there are no brackets to fail, and make erection a breeze.
Bracing is made from heavy duty, galvanised angle.
Rollformed ‘C’ section column is bolted to a thin angle bracket, which is dynabolted to the slab, allowing possible movement.
Columns are light gauge cold rollformed ‘C’ section channel which can flex, twist and bend.
There are no purlins cleats. Instead roof and wall purlins are tek-screwed to the main frame and is a point of movement.
Bolt together brackets for all joints and angles allow for flex and twist, making the shed more difficult to erect and keep shape.
Flimsy haunch plates allow movement, making assembly difficult and allowing potential roof sag.
Flimsy Hoop Iron cannot be tensioned and therefore only provides support once the shed has already started collapsing.

Machinery & Workshop Sheds - Case Study
CLIENT Candeloro Farms
PURPOSE Workshop and machinery shed
LOCATION Toodyay, Western Australia
PROJECT BRIEF
Dion Candeloro runs a broadacre farming and transport company in Toodyay where they crop wheat, barley, canola and lupins. They required to have their equipment fully undercover and to have room to work on the equipment undercover to provide comfort for all staff. They had thoughts of building a reasonable size workshop for a few years and had seen some of our other sheds that we had built and we’re very impressed with them.
WHEATBELT STEEL’S ANSWER
A (83m x 40m x 9.9m) structural steel shed with Universal Beam RSJ column construction and Parallel Chord Web Truss rafter construction. Upon measurement our drafting team were able to create a design that included an 83m x 40m x 9.9m Canterlever Awning and tapered gutters along both sides.
CLIENT’S WORDS
“You can go to Wheatbelt Steel with just a sketch or drawing and they’ll come back with better ideas and a cost effective way of doing a shed, and that is a big plus in todays market because you can save a lot of money in steel with just putting it in the right place instead of it being put anywhere. From the time we signed off on the drawings to the finished product there was never a hassle. It’s a marvellous infrastructure they built for us.” – Dion Candeloro

With a fertiliser shed you have the opportunity to optimise returns by delaying sale of your crop to take advantage of market fluctuations. With fertiliser, it is crucial to retain the cost benefits of upfront bulk buying by storing it correctly.
Our innovative rolling roof design comes with a range of benefits:
• Roof slides open easily to allow a trailer/tipper to unload bulk supplies of fertiliser or grain.
• Clearance to allow loader to empty without sliding roof being open.
• Multi-Purpose use, store your machinery as well as grain and fertiliser.
You can speak to the experts about your requirements to ensure you fertiliser or grain shed is perfectly designed for your farming operations.

CLIENT Doug French & Co
PURPOSE Grain & Fertiliser Storage
LOCATION Goomalling, Western Australia
PROJECT BRIEF
Doug French is a valued customer of Wheatbelt Steel. He operates a farming business in the Wheatbelt region of Goomalling, WA. Doug’s request was for a shed design that would allow easy access to the grain/fertiliser stored in the shed as well as protecting the product from the external environment.
WHEATBELT STEEL’S ANSWER
Wheatbelt Steel’s response to this this was to engineer a shed to store the grain/fertiliser with a rolling roof that would roll back completely onto outriggers to enable full access to the product stored. The shed was also designed with a sliding door on an outrigger to not only ensure the shed was fully enclosed when storing product but to also allow the door to be moved out of the way and not create an obstacle when the shed was in use.

CLIENT Hay Australia
PURPOSE Hay Storage
LOCATION Yerecoin, Western Australia
PROJECT BRIEF
The client, Hay Australia partners leading dairy, beef and equine businesses throughout the world, reliably supplying quality fodder. Hay Australia recently engaged Wheatbelt Steel to design and build their new production facility near Yerecoin in the Victoria Plains shire, Western Australia. This facility then required a supporting large open front shed for the storage of its premium export grade hay. Client also wanted the same creative “barcode” cladding finish on the building’s prevailing wall to match the original workshop & processing plant shed.
WHEATBELT STEEL’S ANSWER
A (120m x 52m x 9m) structural steel shed with wide span parallel cord web trusses and RSJ columns. The building included wide 8m bay spacings to allow safe and easy access for telehandler machines used to unload hay off incoming trucks and stack into the shed. All steelwork was shot blasted to Class 2 and painted with Industrial Enamel Grey (75 Microns) for long lasting quality finish.
CLIENT’S WORDS
“ Following the experience we had with Wheatbelt doing our main process plant shed we had no question as to who was doing our main hay storage shed. The experienced advice they offer is invaluable and they way they go about their business is very hard to find anywhere else. Once again, great job guys” – Andrew Bolt, Director

PURPOSE Helicopter Stowage
LOCATION Mingenew, Western Australia
PROJECT BRIEF
Client runs a well managed 22,000 hectare farming operation in the Shire of Mingenew and required a secure aircraft hangar for the stowage and protection of his helicopter. Security and easy hangar access were essential requirements along with concrete apron and landing pad in the hangar’s design.
WHEATBELT STEEL’S ANSWER
A fully enclosed 17m x 16.5m x 4.5m structural steel hangar incorporating a double head sliding door with supporting outrigger system which allows a 13mtr doorway opening for aircraft access. A full concrete apron provides a solid clean landing pad and taxiway. A roller door was incorporated into the design to allow small vehicle access for maintenance and supplies operation. Insulation was included on the roof to maintain cooler internal temperatures. Cladding was customised to integrate with clients existing retaining wall structure.

CanopiesCanopies are an excellent option to provide protection from weather and also enhance the appearance of your building. All canopies are cantilevered, which means there are no columns and makes the area free of obstructions.
Bunding
Bunding is most popularly used in workshop wash bays and is mandatory in chemical sheds. Coming is serveral different forms, square edge, drive over and flexible rubber, bunding will ensure any liquid leakage will stay within the designated area and not contaminate other products stored within the shed.
Service Pit
Service pits in your workshop are the most efficient way to maintain your machinery as it allows users to work from underneath and above the vehicle at the same time. A service pit is also cost effective as it does not require regular maintenance and provides the upmost safety.
Dado/Tilt Panel
There are many benefits to concrete tilt panels ranging from weather proofing, to security, maintenance and aesthetics. Concrete tilt panels are the preferred option in most commercial sheds as well as grain and fertiliser sheds as they ensure the assets within the shed are protected in all environments.
ConcreteSlab
A concrete slab is the most durable foundation for a shed, providing a base that is not only stable but also weather proof and easier to maintain than a natural dirt floor. In chemical sheds, a concrete slab floor is mandatory in meeting storage compliancy.
