    INTRODUCTION

    Reinforced concrete (RC) buildings often have vertical plate-

    like RC walls called Shear Walls in addition to slabs, beams

    and columns.

    Shear walls are vertical elements of the horiontal force

    resisting s!stem. Shear walls are constructed to counter the

    effects of lateral load acting on a structure.

    RC shear walls provide large strength and stiffness to

    buildings in the direction of their orientation, which

    significantl! reduces lateral swa! of the building.
