Why a Legionella code?• Legionnaires disease is a potentially
fatal form of pneumonia caused by Legionella and other naturally occurring bacteria.
• Legionella grows best in stagnant, nutrient rich, warm water - between 20’C and 45’c (body temperature).
• Legionella infection occurs through inhalation of water droplets – mists, showers etc.
• Legionella is a statutory reportable disease.
Key points• Establishes Legionella
Responsible Persons (LRPs) to manage the operation and maintenance of Legionella registered systems and advise on Legionella matters.
• Installing new, or maintaining or modifying existing water systems MUST be approved by the LRP.
• If you work on water systems – have you been Legionella trained?
