1. The Pledge of Allegiance
A. Recite the “Pledge of Allegiance” from memory:
(stand with your right hand over your heart, face the flag)
I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America
And to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God,
Indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.
B. Explain what “Allegiance” means.
2. Havre de Grace Seal
A. Recite one fact from the list below about Havre de Grace and tell your tester.
a. Havre de Grace was named by the Marquis de Lafayette because it reminded him of Le Havre France. The name in French means “Harbor of Grace.”
b. The City of Havre de Grace was just one vote away from being named the capital of the United States of America.
c. In 1813, the city was burned to the ground by the British.
d. The Concord Point Lighthouse is the oldest continuously operated lighthouse in the State of Maryland.
e. By the time it meets the Chesapeake Bay here in Havre de Grace, the Susquehanna River has flowed 444 miles.
