ARM-U: How to Fire a Client

15 October 2014

Introduction Mike Bevel The relationship between creditors and collectors has undergone a rapid and, some could say, surprising shift. Prior to the CFPB I think one could say that the relationship could best be described as you watch your back and we'll watch our back. Now most regulators see creditors and collectors as two sides of the same coin, so to speak. And both are required to be, in many cases, the boss of each other. So this session here is going to, rather than a traditional keynote, keynote, is going to be a conversation. Jenny Turenne, who is to my left, is President of National Financial Group and will talk about her reasons for firing certain clients, creditors whom she could tell would in the long-run prove to be too much of a compliance liability. She's joined also by Anita Tolani, whom you may remember from yesterday. And she's going to talk about the legal repercussions of lax regulatory compliance. Jennifer Turenne is the President and Shareholder of National Financial Group, a 16-year-old nationally-licensed collection agency. She has more than 35 years' experience in the debt recovery industry in the areas of collection agency operations management, systems design and implementation, accounting and compliance. Anita Tolani, again from yesterday, same person, is still a Partner, she still remains a Partner in the firm of Weinberg, Jacobs & Tolani, LLP. Her legal practice is focused on business law, licensing and regulatory compliance matters and estate planning. She is a participant in the Members' Attorney Program of the ACA International, a former MAP Committee Member and certified by MAP as a Collection Notice Review attorney and HIPAA attorney. And I'm Mike Bevel, an editor here at insideARM. So Jenny, the thing that I wanted to start us off with is if you could walk us through your history and the philosophy of being choosy when it comes to the clients.
