Sharon Baptist Monthly NewsPastor’s Place October 2015

Hello, I hope all of you are doing well and are blessed of the Lord. First, I wanted to thank everyone who worked so hard on our annual picnic. Even though the weather people were not right, we still had a great time in the Lord. At the Sunday Morning Service five people were baptized, one joined the church and fun was had by all. September 27th was a great day of fellowship, worship and fun. Thank you to all who came and for all the efforts that were put forth.

Coming up in the month of October we have Pastor Preval coming to Sharon on October 4th for the Sunday Night Service at 6 pm. October 4th will be a glorious time in the Lord and I really want to see as many people as possible come out and support Pastor Preval and the Haiti Mission. We will be taking up a special offering for Pastor Preval and His ministry. We will be having a celebration for him after, we will be serving finger foods so please bring an item.

Our own Jim Milam will be preaching October 11th for the Sunday Morning Service, telling us about the work of the Gideons and the works the Lord has done through that ministry. We will be taking a special offering to support the Gideons. Please come out and support Jim and the Gideons.

On October 17th we are having the Fall Bazaar here are Sharon and we are going to have food, games and activities for the kids and items for purchase. It is a great time to come and fellowship, support the ministries of Sharon Baptist Church and have fun as well. Please come out and make the Bazaar a great success. Donations of items for the Bazaar are being accepted at the Lighthouse class or you can contact Chris Wilson with any questions.

Over the last months we have made an effort to make the service more reverent and worshipful of the Lord. To reverence and worship the Lord is one of our highest calls, blessings and joys. Psalm 150:6 tells us “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.” In attempts to increase reverence, the order of worship has been in transition. I thank you for your patience. In October the order of worship is going to be made consistent and unless something unforeseen happens the order of worship will be unchanged once set. I, the Choir, the Worship Committee and the Deacon Committee have fielded some ideas and there are going to be a few changes that we feel will be more reverent. They are small but I think they will be a blessing.

The changes are the Choir will be singing the Call to Worship to prepare our hearts for the worship of the Lord. Special music will be sung during collection. To signal the end of service after I give the “Numbers 6 Blessing” the church will say “amen” and the choir will also do an “amen.” I appreciate you all for being so supportive as I am confident you will continue to be.

Remember that we have a Tuesday Morning Bible Study at 10 am. Usually this time is mostly ladies but men will not be kicked out; ha, ha. We have Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting

Pastor’s Place (continued)

at 7 pm. Every third Wednesday we do have a potluck dinner starting at 6 pm. Every other Thursday we are having a Thursday Night Bible Study and Potluck starting at 6 pm. We do have activities for the kids. In October the Thursday Night Bible Study and Potluck fall on the 1st, 15th and the 29th. We also have Sunday Night Bible Study starting at 6 pm (all but the 4 th). These services help us grow in the Lord and help us fellowship with each other and grow closer to each other. I want to see as many as possible to each of these events.

We have a wonderful church here are Sharon. If we all pray for the church and one another and invite others and seek the Lord, we will see the Lord bless us in ways we have not imagined. Remember the words of the Scripture, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” (Ephesians 3:20) God bless you all and I appreciate each one of you.

In Christ, Pastor James

Music Ministry October 2015FALL on Your Knees with Praise…..notes from the music ministry!Lynne Buker

Here’s one from The Book to think about! Oftentimes when the children of Israel went into battle they placed their singers at the front lines! Yup really! They knew if they faced their enemies with praise, they would win. AND they did! Today, we still defeat a powerful enemy every time we can open our mouths to sing or speak praise for the Lord! Delightful as always, the Madren girls sang “Jesus Teach me” for our 2nd Sunday. I’m excited…they will be doing an encore presentation when Pastor Preval comes to preach for our evening worship service on the 4th of October. It has always been a great way to focus our attention on the Lord when Jesse and Jane Burch provide our special music. The reflections and emotions he draws on when he sings really do get the message to our hearts. Thank you both so much for gifts you share so well with us. Beginning in October the Sanctuary choir only, will be singing the call to worship during our morning service. At the end of our service a ‘choral’ “Amen” will be offered by them as well. They are beginning to practice for the Christmas cantata, “Christ was born for this”; they rehearse on Thursdays at 7pm and would love to have you join them!

Multimedia Mania…Chris White (continues on as) chairman!New sound equipment has already arrived & other pieces have been ordered. Some members of the multimedia met with Frank from Bowling Green Electronics to schedule a “begin” date for installation in early October! We are glad to welcome Glenn Hart, Melissa Barber and David Previs to our committee. If you look quickly upstairs you might catch Chris White doing a “happy dance” over this! We met and scheduled a “clean up, clean out” time for the baptismal closet and to evaluate remaining equipment stored upstairs. After checking out the wireless mikes we are going to try and use them with the new system. Some of the other older equipment will be donated to the bazaar. Members have been asked to remove personal equipment loaned to us for use. The remaining equipment will be labeled & stored. The new console will be located to the left side of the existing one. Building and Grounds Committee is working on our electrical needs and removing of the old main from the ceiling. We greatly appreciate those who have already contributed to our fund and we encourage all Sharon family to consider donating and supporting this project. Our next 5 th Sunday collection will still be earmarked to complete the van expense first, but the balance will start paying for the new sound system. We are beginning to collect “ideas” for our fund raising events in the New Year.Yes, there REALLY is a …”sweet, sweet spirit in this place….”

Sharon Baptist Monthly NewsRequest for Your Cooperation: please go downstairs and look at our Fellowship Hall --- it is a mess, to put it politely. Stuff is scattered everywhere and it looks as if things are never picked up and either put away or thrown away. We never know when we will need to use the Fellowship Hall for a funeral reception and the kitchen committee ends up having to clean everything out so that it is neat and suitable. PLEASE do not use the Fellowship Hall as a storage unit or catch-all space.

Within the next few weeks the storage closet off the Fellowship Hall is going to be cleaned out. That closet is designated strictly for kitchen supply and storage. If you have put anything in that closet, please remove it or it will be disposed of. Thank you, Kitchen and Hospitality Committee

Upcoming Special EventsPastor Preval will be with us here at Sharon on Sunday night October 4th speaking at our Sunday night worship service at 6:00 p.m. Those of you who have heard him in the past know what a blessing it is to hear him speak so we are praying for a large crowd that evening. We will be taking up a love offering which will help him in his ministry in Haiti.

We will be having a social hour in the Fellowship Hall following the service and would like to ask that you bring something to share (cookies, brownies, fruit, veggies, etc.). We are hoping to find enough freezers to have homemade ice cream as well. We are Baptists and we like to eat!!

We have 5 young adults who are planning to go on their first Haitian mission trip in February or March of next year and would like for you to be in prayer for and support of this trip.

3rd ANNUAL FALL BAZAAR October 17th 8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The planning for Sharon Baptist Church’s 3rd annual Fall Bazaar is already underway! The date has been set for Saturday, October 17th from 8am-1 pm, so mark your calendars and please plan on attending. We will be having a bake sale, yard sale, silent auction, children’s activities, and music. We will also be making and selling Brunswick Stew and BBQ. Also, if there is enough interest, we will be ordering Sharon Baptist Church t-shirts. Stay tuned to the bulletin and information shared in your Sunday school class for ways that you can help and contribute!

Please see Suzanne Buckingham as soon as possible about your payment or if you have any questions. Need the $10 pre-registration by September 20th; you can give it to Suzanne or Alyce in the church office.

Report from Landscaping CommitteeOur goal is to honor our Church so that the first sight of it reflects the love and peace of God. We have started by improving the front of our place of worship with a detailed plan that reflects the beauty of God’s creation with its plants, eloquent quiet trees and green glistening grass. We want to show that we the members of our Church (who are the earthly caregivers), love, respect and care for our grounds. It is our hope our grounds will create a feeling of welcome to come inside and worship with us. Inside we can reflect the flowers of our souls by a warm greeting, a kind word, a friendly handshake or a smile that says we love you and welcome you to our Church family.

We can also remember our family, friends, veterans, former pastors, present pastor, and others with honor or memory in giving a permanent gift to help improve our outward appearance by making it a place that is filled with happy hearts showing God’s love and peace. We hope you appreciate the opportunity to be part of this endeavor. Further information will follow.

Sharon Baptist Monthly NewsYouth in the News October 2015

It was great to see all of you who made it to Family Movie Night on Friday, September 18th. The kids enjoyed the movie Home while the teens and adults watched Mom’s Night Out; what a great movie! On behalf of the youth, thank you for the donations at the popcorn and drink ‘stand’. A total of $70.12 was raised and it makes a great start to next year’s mission trip! We would love to enjoy movie nights more often with our family at Sharon as well as the others in the community so we are praying that this event will grow.

On September 9th, we took our Wednesday night youth to Colosse Baptist Church for a planning party for the annual See You At The Pole (SYATP) event. We had a good time that night and pray that as we participate in SYATP on Wednesday, September 23rd, the Lord will use it to reach others around us at the schools to become bold in their walk with Christ and as a result, bring others to know Him.

October 9th – Truth for Youth Tailgate – We did this for the first time last year and we want to do it again! Our youth sold candy and drinks to people that were headed to the football game at the high school while we also passed out Truth for Youth Bibles and Chick-fil-A coupons.

October 17th – Kids games and activities for the Fall Bazaar – Attention teens: Get your running shoes on! We are praying for better weather this year so we can be outside keeping the kids busy with games, the bounce house, face painting, crafts and maybe a few more things!

October 23rd – This may possibly be a 5th Quarter or another Truth for Youth Tailgate.

One final reminder – This past Wednesday we had the youth write down some of the ideas/topics they would like to discuss during our weekly meetings. If you missed out on that, please let us know your thoughts! AND…remember to bring your Bibles every week!

Church Library (continued) October 2015A Time of Hope by Terri Reed – The new temporary Pastor of Hope Community Church was everything Mara Zimmer was trying to avoid. Jacob Durand was young, good-looking and interested. She was terrified that if he learned about her tragic past, he’d turn his back on her, too. We Have This Moment By Diann Hunt – In addition to brisk weather and glorious foliage, autumn brings the chance to rekindle the joy of lost love in Acorn Hill. Will she and her sisters be able to see two lovers reunited, or will their efforts result in failure and heartbreak? And, oh, has Lloyd really changed his name to Lola? Adult F #6688
