Welcome back Beachland Sharks! I cant tell you how happy I was to open the file with the preliminary
school grades to find out that Beachland Elementary scored a total of 540 total points which translates into a Grade A school. We did it!!! Our reading learning gains increased by 26 percentage points. It was this accomplishment that brought our score from a grade C (Beachland was listed as a B last year due to the state adjustment of only dropping one letter
grade) to an A for the 2013-2014 school year. Thank you for all of the hard work of faculty, staff, parents, volunteers and of course our wonderful students. As I have said before It takes team work to make the dream work.
Each year there are a few staff changes and this year is no different. First, Mrs. Wagner, our AP, has been transferred to Pelican Island Elementary. Pelican Islands AP moved to the county office and Mrs. Wagners experience was needed at that school. This is a complement to her ability. It is also an added perk that she is closer to home. She will be missed by everyone but I know PIE will welcome her with open arms. Taking Mrs. Wagners place will be Mrs. Susan Del Tufo. Mrs. Del Tufo has had many years of experience in Indian River. She has served as teacher, literacy coach and AP. Mrs. Del Tufo and I have known each other for years. I am happy to have her on board. Summer Almand, 2nd grade math teacher, has made some changes in her life and is able to be a stay home mom. Mrs. Almand is an outstanding teacher and an asset to our team. She will be missed. Mrs. Danielle Miner and Sherrie Hale surprised me with the announcement that they will be job sharing this year as first grade Science/Math teacher. These two ladies work wonderfully together and this arrangement will help Mrs. Miner with child care. Mrs. Regina Davis will be moving into 1st grade to teach math alongside Mrs. Stawara and Mrs. Johnson. We welcome home Erica Thomas. Erica is a graduate of Beachland and joins us as a third grade reading teacher. She is a great addition to our team; she really impressed us during her interview, I know she will impress you also. I am busy interviewing for openings in our school so be sure to look for post on Facebook for any new hires. Finally, you will notice that we are now officially a secured campus. The goal of the district has been to make all schools a single entry school. However, we will have gates opened the first week so you may walk your child to his/her class and have two points of entry. The media center is equipped with our district RAPTOR system as well as the front office. Beginning Monday, August 25, all gates will be locked at 9am. All late students must be brought to the front office for a tardy slip and parents must come to the front office for a visitors pass. Thank you so much for your cooperation and continued commitment to making Beachland Elementary safe! Once again, welcome home and I look forward to meeting our new families and seeing familiar faces around campus.Caroline Barker, Principal

Pat Blackburn PTA President
Dear Beachland Families:
I am thrilled to welcome everyone to the 2014-2015 school year at Beachland Elementary School! As your new PTA President, I am tingling with excitement for our Beachland Sharks. Our PTA Executive
Board has been working through the summer to develop lots of exciting plans for all our families.
Every child. One voice. The National PTA motto embraces the goal of PTA. Let us work together to help all children. Please know that no matter who you are, you are a valued member of our school family. The Beachland PTA welcomes and appreciates everyone. I offer the following suggestions for making this a successful year.
1. Get involved. Look to volunteer in any way you can. Whether you share your professional expertise or a hidden talent; whether you can help every day, an hour a week, or periodically through the year, please share your skills with our family. Volunteering will help you stay close to your child(ren), their teachers and school administration. While your volunteerism is so valuable to the students, the intrinsic reward for the volunteer is out of this world! For more information on how to volunteer, contact Paige Visser at [email protected]
2. Donate. While PTA is not just about raising money, we cannot accomplish our goals without it! Every dollar counts. If you dont have money growing on the trees in your back yard, you can still help by participating in our fundraising efforts. We will begin the year with the PTA member-ship drive and the Beachland Discount Card. With each of these efforts, valuable savings will be returned to those who participate. For more information, contact our Vice President, Andy Segal at [email protected]
3. Be informed. As a parent, I feel more secure about my child when I know what is happening at his school! I like to know all the details. I challenge each parent to make being informed a priority. The PTA is here to make this task easier. Here is how: a. Like our Facebook Page (www.facebook.com/BeachlandelementaryPTA). Information like details of upcoming field trips, adverse weather conditions, etc. will be posted. b. Bookmark the Website (www.BeachlandPTA.com). It is like great spaghetti sauce, EVERYTHING is there! c. Join our emailing list. (contact Paige Visser at [email protected]). By doing this, news will come straight to your inbox.
As a parent, former educator and kid at heart, I am truly exuberant about this school year. With the news that Beachland is once again an A school, I have no doubt that we as a team can have lots of success and loads of fun as we strive to be even better. Speaking of fun, please join us for Family Fun Nights this year. Hopefully fun for the children will mean fun for parents, too! Have a Fintastic year!

Lunch Bunch needs volunteers. This year well be trying a new approach that should be great for parents and kids alike!
Sign up in your childs homeroom to volunteer to take your childs class to lunch, sit at their table and eat with the class! Kids love this and it gives you a chance to get to know the other children in your childs class as well as give a very much needed extra set of hands and eyes at the table. Have a little one at home and dont think you can do this? Bring them along for the fun! It gives them a chance for practicing to be a shark!
Sign up sheets will be in your teachers classrooms and more info will be given at the September 4th PTA meeting.
FINS UP!

P L E DGE
HOUR
can you take the 3 hour pledge? Your time is valuable, very valuable to Beachland Elementarys teachers, student and staff! The 3 Hour Pledge is asking you for 3 hours of your time throughout the ENTIRE 2014-15 school year.
So very much can be accomplished in that small amount of volunteered time including strengthening the partnership between home and school for your childs benefit.
Beachland PTAs Volunteer Coordinator Paige Visser is looking forward to your email so that she may begin planning and placing volunteers in the array of areas and events your time and expertise is needed.
Taking the 3 Hour Pledge will truly help organize and effectively communicate Beachlands needs to parents. It is also a great vehicle for welcoming all families into the school as partners as we all are in creating the best environment for our children.
We look forward to seeing you around campus!
