Everyone wants more of our time and attention, especially our children, and we are often unsure of how to manage everything. Just for today, make an extra effort to focus on these four important words: “give us this day.” Feel comforted by the knowledge that God will provide every bit of grace you need to meet the challenges that this day places before you and remember that He never gives us more than we can handle. St Rocco Weekly

THURSDAY PACKET School Sharing the Love of the Heart of Christ! Parent Notes

Happy Valentine's Day. Each year on February 14, people exchange cards, candy or flowers with their special “valentine.”

St. Valentine's Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia.Feb 14, 2018

A Note from the Principal…

“Give us this day…” How often do we say these words in the Our Father without thinking much about them? These four simple words can speak volumes about the gifts of God’s grace to anyone. They are especially meaningful to parents. Parents’ today want to do the best they possibly can to raise their children to become faith-filled, productive citizens of our world. However, the thought of actually accomplishing this task is one that is challenging, complex and often overwhelming for us.

Let’s take a step back and think for a minute about God’s promise to give us what we need. We pray “give us this day our daily bread” and God hears our prayers. Whether it is knowing how to discipline our children with love, how to help our children to grow in confidence

and competence, or how to teach them to become resilient persons in our often –chaotic world, good will provide us with the grace we need if we simply ask. Sometimes, that is the challenge. We forget to ask. It is easy to become caught up of the melodrama of our busy lives. Everyone wants more of our time and attention, especially our children, and we are often unsure of how to manage everything. Just for today, make an extra effort to focus on these four important words: “give us this day.”

Feel comforted by the knowledge that God will provide every bit of grace you need to meet the challenges that this day places before you and remember that He never gives us more than we can handle. Aim to be a living example of your faith in God to your children and enjoy the moments when you witness them living their faith in return. You can give them no greater gift!

Scholastic Challenge

The sixth and eighth grade students of St. Rocco School participated in the 2019

Scholastic Challenge. This one hour online competition is comprised of 100 questions divided into six categories: general knowledge, language and literature, social studies (history and geography), science, and mathematics. Our students competed against other sixth grade or eighth grade students in schools across America. Trophies and certificates will be awarded for achievement in both the 6th grade and 8th grade divisions at the end of the school year.

The Scholastic Challenge encourages academic excellence and allowed our students to demonstrate a variety of problem solving skills and knowledge in many academic areas.

Spring Open House and State Fair ~ Please join us on Sunday, March 3rd for our Spring Open House and State Fair Exhibit. Invite your family and friends to “Discover Us” and tour our school from 11:00AM - 1:00PM. Tours are available throughout the week. Please call to schedule a personal tour!

National Catholic Sisters Week March 8-14, 2017

NCSW is an annual celebration that began in 2014 to honor religious women with a series of events that instruct, enlighten, and bring greater focus on the lives of these incredible women. It’s a chance to recognize all that they do, with the hope that as more young women learn about religious women, more will choose to follow their

example. On Friday, there will be with a light breakfast in their honor to celebrate the incredible contribution Sr. Mary Antoinette, Sr. Daisy and Sr. Donna continue to do for us and their everyday presence here at St. Rocco School!

March 8th ~ Special Activity! ~ International Women's Day is a day of global recognition held annually on March 8th to celebrate women's achievements throughout history and across nations. Our Grades 6, 7 & 8 girls will participate in a IWD celebration! Students will hear from a panel of presenters, engage in informative activities and enjoy refreshments and conversation with our special guests.

Many Blessings, Mrs. Lorraine Moschella Principal We would like to thank Ms. Ilidia Poulin and Mrs. Ewa Poulin for decorating and organizing the Father/Daughter

Dance this year. The girls all looked so nice in their dresses and the dads/guardians looked so handsome and proud!

It was a wonderful evening creating memories to last a life time!

Work Hard and Do Our Best!

Our second graders are always ready to take the challenges of each day’s activities and grow in maturity. In Religion, we are learning all about Jesus' Gift of Forgiveness and Peace. We are intensely getting ready to meet Jesus in the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Holy Eucharist.

Shapes, shapes, shapes, everywhere you look, you see shapes! We are thrilled learning all about shapes. We have so much fun turning, flipping and sliding with shapes and learning various concepts. We can't wait to learn how to deal with money! Students will know the value of each coin, how to count them and use the correct amount.

In Reading, we are focusing on fiction, nonfiction, fable, realistic fiction, photo essay, nonfiction article, play, etc. We are getting ready to write an expository/ informative piece. Also, students are excited to write a play on their own and present it to their classmates.

In Science, we have been learning all about our Earth such as, earth’s land, water, rocks and minerals, and how earth changes. We are enjoying hands on activities and experiments. We are looking forward to learning all about Weather and Sky – it takes one million cloud droplets to make one raindrop! It is going to be a lot of fun! We can't wait to do our invention which is to build an animal robot to help people in different works.

In Social Studies, we traveled to different parts of the world and learned something about each country. We had our own private plane designed by each one of us. Now we are learning about how communities connect with each other. We are acquiring more knowledge and insight from the weekly Scholastic Magazine. It is wonderful nourishment for our mind!

In Health, we learned all about the parts and functions of our heart and how various food groups can help us to stay healthy. In Spanish, we learned how to identify body parts and learn the names of various places. We have fun using technology in our lessons every day.

We also continue to have our special treat, which is eating lunch with our teacher in the

classroom and playing Sister Ball. We are making a surprise gift for our school Winter Gala on March 9th . It is going to be a surprise so wait patiently.

You see, our day is so busy but we are learning and having fun at the same time.

P.S. Last week, the second graders were honored by our adopted priest, Fr. Victor Silva. He visited our class and spent a lot time with us. We asked him a lot of questions and we have a lot fun with him. He thanked us for praying for him every day and writing cards to him. He said he will back again! Hooray for Fr. Silva !!!
