Share this: October 21, 2016 NOTIFICATION TO PARENTS FROM SJBH Several children attending area schools have been diagnosed with Hand, Foot, and Mouth (HFMD) disease over the last month. San Juan Basin Health is working with the Durango School District 9R and the School Based Health Center to educate staff and parents about HFMD, and how to prevent the spread of further illness. HFMD is common in infants and young children. It usually causes fever, painful sores in the mouth, and a rash on the hands and feet. HFMD is usually not serious. The illness is typically mild, and nearly all people recover in 7 to 10 days without medical treatment. Complications are uncommon. Continue reading here. 9­R SCHOOLS HOST FALL FUNDRAISERS 

Many of our elementary schools will be hosting family friendlyfundraising events this month. Here's a look at some of the upcomingopportunities to support our schools and celebrate this fall season:

The Powerhouse Science Center will be offering their Sudden Scienceafter­school program at Animas Valley Elementary and SunnysideElementary in November. Learn more here. 

PROGRAMS AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS ON OCTOBER 31ST

GOTR NEEDS VOLUNTEERS FOR THE 5KOn Saturday, November 12th the all of our elementary 9­R Girls on the RunTeams (GOTR) will be running in Durango’s 2nd Annual GOTR 5K.  We areanticipating close to 800 participants which would make this 5K one of thelargest running events in Durango! We are in need of a lot of volunteers tomake it happen. Volunteer opportunities are varied and range from set­up,to being a course marshall, to registration, to handing out medals at thefinish line, and more. The time frame for volunteer varies as well, but yourtime would be needed between the hours of 7:00am ­ 12:00pm on race day.If you are interested or would like to learn more about this opportunityplease contact Autumn Frickel at [email protected] orFrancesca Shaw at [email protected].

You can also support the girls from your school by coming out to cheer orregister to run or walk the 5k with them.

LIBRARY OFFERS CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP FOR TEENS
