GOOD NEWSNEWSLETTER FOR THE OTHER ABLED
FEBRUARY 2005 219-778-2585 VOLUME 31 #[email protected]
FROM THE DESK OF FATHER BLANEY...I’ll be in Florida as you read this on my winter odyssey.
February is a dull month, usually, but I’ve been blest to see a sparkle inso many eyes. The young girl close by when I sneezed and I told her that Iwas allergic to pretty girls. The young woman, obviously pregnant, walkingup to Communion slowly – I gave her two hosts. Her eyes sparkled at theattention and the knowledge that she was blessed. The various Villagers atSharing Meadows whose eyes shine brightly when a hug is returned. Thelittle baby whose eyes shone brighter than the candle at baptism. An oldfriend who I haven’t seen for a number of years – eyes shining inremembrance of past happy days.
As the days are getting longer, we need to see the spirit of God’s love inmore and more of the faces we meet. Our days are intensely more bright andmeaningful when we see this brightness. May God give you thewords/actions to spark that brightness and to receive that awareness of God’slove all around you.

THOUGHTS FROMTHE EXECUTIVE
DIRECTORBy Kathleen Kelly
Shortly after Christmas the retail storesbegan to fill up with cards, stuffed animals, candy and other items they were promoting forValentine gifts for our loved ones. Signs are onthe displays suggesting that we shouldpurchase a gift to show our love to thosespecial people in our lives. While I realize thatmarketing specialists have a job to do andselling us balloons, flowers and anything with aheart on it helps them make quotas, I alsorealize love can’t be bought and genuine lovegoes much deeper than anything gift wrapped.
Sharing Meadows is full of love! It’sevident in the Villager who prays for hersteward each morning during our communityprayer service because she loves her. It’sevident in the presence of the stewards wholiterally share their lives with the Villagers, nurturing, caring, and mentoring. It’s evidentin the faithful dedication of our volunteers whoare always there when we need them tomaintain the grounds, mail the newsletter, staffcamp or cheerfully do whatever is asked ofthem. It’s evident in the person who purchasestickets to a play or concert for the Villagers andthen treats them to dinner after the event justbecause he truly enjoys their company andbelieves in our mission. It’s evident in theneighbor who donates apples from his orchardfor our raspberry applesauce each year. It’sevident by the hundreds of donors who loyallycontribute to our cause and have helpedSharing Meadows become a loving, Christiancommunity. There are so many examples oflove at Sharing Meadows and these are but afew.
A few years ago at summer camp, one ofour campers was a young man who was totallycare dependent. His counselor lifted him fromhis wheelchair to his bed, showered him, dressed him, helped him with meals andpushed his wheelchair all over the camp. WhenI asked him if it was hard to do he replied, “oh,it’s hard work but Joe is SO worth it!” Hiswords, so full of love, touched my heart. Whata compliment to the camper to have someonetruly feel that he is worth the extra effortbecause he is loved. That simple statementshows more love than a roomful of flowers.
I hope that when someone helps me, theyfeel that I’m worth it. Feeling loved is thegreatest feeling and while we know that God’slove for us is unconditional, it’s good to havethat love affirmed by the people around us.The Villagers make me feel worth it by theunconditional love and acceptance that theyshare so freely. My wish for you is that youfeel truly loved because you’re worth it. Cometo Sharing Meadows and I guarantee theVillagers will make you feel loved! HappyValentine’s Day!
CONTINUE THE DREAMShare Foundation’s Capital Campaign is in full swing. Letters have gone out and
people are still being approached. Grant applications are being written. We areconducting this fund drive entirely with volunteers who believe in our mission. Noprofessional fundraisers are being paid so all of the money raised goes directly intoour programs at Sharing Meadows for other abled adults.
We have a great cause! The fund drive runs for 4 yearsso your gift can be spread out in monthly, quarterly orannual payments. A large gift of $2500 comes out to apeople sized donation of $50 a month. A donation of only$20 per month equals a gift of $1000 towards our goal of$1,645,000. With your help, I know we can make it!
Our needs are great! We need to pay for the 3rd villageat Sharing Meadows. We need to pay for the guesthousecurrently under construction. We need to pay for the 4th
village scheduled to be built in 2008. We need to add tothe endowment fund to provide for the future of theresidential program at Sharing Meadows.
We have a great cause! Please help to continue the dream at Sharing Meadowsby supporting our Capital Fund Drive. Spreading out your commitment over fouryears makes it affordable for everyone. Your gift will make a difference!
