The goal of PSAP is to provide pertinent pharmacotherapeutic updates to enhance and assess the practice skills of pharmacists. Eleven books are published about every 3 months in 3-year cycles to provide continuing education credit for pharmacotherapy board recertification. The editorial board selects topics for the 11 chapters in each of the books, assures that the publication satisfies requirements of the Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties, and develops style criteria, considering survey results from subscribers. Each editorial board member reviews at least one chapter for each book (three drafts plus galleys). The first draft can require up to 16 hours of edit time, whereas subsequent drafts require approximately 8 and 2 hours, respectively. Each editorial board member also coordinates one book in the series. Authors and reviewers considered to be experts on the topic are recruited, each draft is reviewed to assure appropriate coverage of the topic and avoidance of content overlap in each chapter, and differences of opinion among authors and various reviewers are mediated.
