Dear Family and Friends of the Blessed John Paul II Catholic Schools Network, Welcome to the 29th annual Shanley Dinner Auction. Thank you on behalf of the JPII School’s Board, Council, staff and students. Our schools would not exist without the collaborative efforts that exist among our schools, parishes and community. Our community truly embodies our new value statement, “A community inspiring excellence through faith, learning and service,” and the annual auction is a living testimony of the strength of our community. The Shanley Auction is a unique evening that is the culmination of many hours of planning and service from our parents. We would like to thank Lee Hoedl who is this year’s Auction Director. Lee’s energy, spirit and focus is a metaphor for all that is good about our community. Our Auc-tion Chairs Dan and Heather Butler, and Paul and Jill von Ebers have helped bring their vision of the auction to life through countless hours of planning on how to make this year’s auction a success. In addition, the Solicitation Chairs Lori Erie and Shar Vetter have aligned numerous solicitors in bringing together the items you will be competitively bidding on tonight. To the many individuals and businesses that have contributed to the auction we are also extremely thankful. The generosity of the JPII Network members and the Fargo community has forever changed my view on philanthropy and what it means to be a part of an effort to improve our schools’ future. Each year the auction revenue goes to assist in the educational process of the JPII Schools Network. It helps bring our schools to the next level and give our students access to learning experiences that are enriched far beyond what we could do with our regular budget. Our stu-dents consistently outperform students state and nationwide in quantifiable standardized testing like the MAP, NDSAA, SAT and ACT, but they also learn to become people who seek to serve others. Our mission, …”to inspire exceptional student achievement by teaching the total person and fostering the following of Christ in an environment guided by the Gospel spirit, as taught by the Catholic Church,” unfolds successfully each day in our schools. It is a joy to watch and to be a part of this community. It could not happen without events like the auction. We sincerely thank you for your attendance and participation! Yours in the Peace of Christ,
Dr. Michael Smith Ed.D.Superintendent, Blessed John Paul II Catholic SchoolsA community inspiring excellence through faith, learning and [email protected]

LIVE AUCTIONThe Great Hall opens at 6:00 pm to allow viewing of Live Auction items. The Live Auction begins at 8:10 pm. Each Live Auction item is numbered and listed in your catalog.
The Master of Ceremonies or the Auctioneer will call out the number and give a brief description of the item. The Auctioneer will then open the bidding. Bidders can raise the bid by raising their bidder cards in order to be seen by the Auctioneer or “spotters.”

PADDLE GAMEPurchase price of a paddle is $20. A single paddle gives the purchaser the opportunity to play and win. This year’s newly instituted Paddle Game is a simple game of heads or tails. During this evening’s one-time game, participants will hold up their paddle and guess the flip of the Auction coin, with their guess of heads (John Paul II profile) or tails (Shanley shield) facing away from themselves. Participants will continue through each round of the game if their guess matches the tossed coin. The game will continue until there is only one winner.
