Shanita Brown Foundation hosts charity event for injured Tyler teen

Charity event set for Dorian Timmons who was injured on the football field.

Arlington, Texas, January 07, 2013 – The Shanita Brown Foundation is hosting a charity event on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013 for Chapel Hill High School football star Dorian Timmons. The 14-year old freshman suffered a traumatic brain injury during football practice on Oct. 1, 2012 leaving Dorian in a coma. The program will be held at Chapel Hill High School, 13172 State Highway 64E, Tyler, TX 75707 from 9a.m. – 3p.m.

Dorian’s injury came as a result of a helmet-to-helmet collision with another player. His injury required emergency surgery and doctors noted that he did not have any activity on the right side of his brain. Dorian has been in a coma since the initial accident but is stable and has since been released from the hospital.

In 2012 the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research at UNC reported its highest tally for brain injuries suffered by high school athletes. This event seeks to bring about awareness to the community on such football injuries while providing financial assistance to the Timmons family. “The SBF wants to help Dorian's family because we understand that when something as tragic as this happens to anyone especially our children, it is our duty to lend a helping hand and be of service anyway we can,” said SBF Founder Shanita Brown. “My hope is that the "Endless Dreams" Hope for an Athlete campaign will help Dorian's family financially and bring awareness to the community about Dorian's condition as well as sports injuries.”
