SYNOPSIS SHAKE! The Musical kicks off at breakfast with a big utensil jam at the La’Bon’s, a Cajun family from Louisiana in the 1970’s. Papa La’Bon, cooking Jambalaya, makes Sunday breakfast like you’ve never seen before! (My Jambalaya) The enticing flavors follow ViVi La’Bon, Papa’s beautiful but klutzy daughter, as she steps on Bourbon Street after a show stopping New Orleans style dance number. (Boogalie Boogie) She nearly trips running to share Sunday afternoon with talented football star, Will Greene, her boyfriend from Tulane University. ViVi hopes Will may propose marriage, as she’s a widow and seeks a step father for her young children. Will is obviously taken with ViVi, (Cajun Love) but their romantic playfulness in the park (The Four Winds) is dimmed by talk of

recession and its impact on Papa’s business. Will goes to meet Papa to load samples into Papa’s car for a sales trip; but their first stop is a local bar. The bar patrons along with Will celebrate the spirit of the Wild West show rehearsed there. Papa, in the role of Chief Immanuel, brings to life this splendid Cajun tradition of Mardi Gras. (Chief Immanuel) In the morning, Papa shares a heart felt moment with his family (Working Man) before heading off to make a sale. Unexpectedly, Papa dies and a supernatural guest inspires ViVi. (Lion of Judah) ViVi is shaken, but goes on. (Take Me to Grace) Papa’s eulogy celebrates life (SHAKE!) and the exuberance of a New Orleans funeral jazz band is not to be missed! (Intermission) The energy and celebration continue as Mardi Gras comes to Bourbon Street! (Saint’s Boogie) Live jazz, street dancing, brilliant costumes and floats lead ViVi here, where she’s hired as a cocktail waitress at the Fireside Club. (Sugar Daddy) Meanwhile, Will struggles with choices of a football career versus love, and breaks up with ViVi. Her new boss, the unscrupulous Dante Nafel, begins to make advances towards ViVi. (Truth or Fantasy) Dante plots a scheme involving ViVi as his partner in a national disco dance contest. As they practice, ViVi finds she is really falling for Dante, a master at manipulating women. Meanwhile, Will realizes his mistake and keeps calling ViVi. She won’t return his calls, but focuses on the local contest, which she and Dante soon win; (Senorita Bonita and Shake it Baby!) but ViVi ignores a judge’s questionable influence who owes Dante a favor. Will comes back (Cajun Queen) from a job with a professional football team; to share his amorous feelings with ViVi in person. Will is told ViVi is at a promotional shoot. For the photos, Dante forcefully demands ViVi be nude. Her integrity is tested; as well as faith in Dante and herself. (Roll On Woman) Narrowly escaping Dante’s intimidation and sudden threats against her family, she runs home and finds that Will is there. He apologizes to her and proposes marriage. (No Need to Change) She confides in him about Dante, and Will offers help. ViVi knows Will is sincere and finds she still loves him. She accepts his

proposal, but first must set things straight with both Dante and herself. (Positive Change) The final outcome pulls at the heartstrings (There’s a Rainbow) and uplifts with triumph! (Shake It! Praise It!)
