Dating back to the early 1800s, Tandus Centiva’s rich history in woven carpets continues with the soft, hand-made look of Shadow Velvet—the latest expression from weaver and textile designer Suzanne Tick. The name Shadow Velvet comes from the Van de Wiele “velvet” loom on which it is woven in Truro, Nova Scotia. With earthy warm and cool neutrals informed by natural stones and minerals, plus a calming blue to reflect ocean and sky, Shadow Velvet’s color palette and plush surface allow corporate spaces to achieve a residential feel that facilitates stillness and inward reflection.

Inspired by her interest in textural simplicity and the austerity of Agnes Martin’s drawing series, Suzanne has worked to capture a spiritual approach to pattern, causing its structure to become a form of meditation. Shadow Velvet’s cut/loop construction is also lightly tip-sheared, with space-dyed yarns that mimic natural, hand-dyed yarns. The result is a soft, handmade look and uniquely subtle, textile-like aesthetic. With its refreshing take on the look and feel of corporate offices, Shadow Velvet is perfect for maturing tech companies and the financial sector.

Suzanne Tick is the founder of Suzanne Tick Inc., specializing in materials brand strategy, product design, development, and direction for commercial interiors. Her designs, across product platforms, have won numerous design awards and continue to break new ground in the industry. In addition to her work in commercial interiors, Suzanne maintains a hand weaving practice and creates woven sculptures from repurposed materials. Her work is exhibited worldwide, including MoMA and Art Basel, as well as collected by private and corporate clients. A portion of the carpet sales for every Suzanne Tick design installed in K-12 and higher education environments is donated to Publicolor in NYC. Learn more at publicolor.org.
