SAINTS SAY Take some time out your day to catch a laugh at the Things Saints Say!

I strive to keep it stylish, yet holy, by thinking about what is pleasing to God. Portraying the image of a woman of God and putting my best foot forward is important! I try on several outfits before walking out the house because I know what God would approve of and what he would not approve of. A lot of my clothing that was too revealing has been replaced with clothing that shows dignity. I learned that if I have too much skin showing, then I know I need to put on a blazer or cover up to balance out everything. Dressing with purpose and a CEO mentality is my goal. A little advice that I would like to share is, always ask the Holy Spirit what it is you should wear to prepare for the day He has made. After all, the way we dress and carry ourselves can say a lot.

For the past several years in ministry, I have been operating as a “General of Deliverance”. In 2009, the Holy

Spirit spoke those words to me so plainly that I could not deny His voice. It was not until recently that I even heard anyone else in the body of Christ use these words to describe spiritual work. Nonetheless, the ministry of deliverance is not strange or unfamiliar, because for some time an anointing has fell upon me to intercede for people to be free from demonic issues that plague their mind, body, and soul.

In fact, when The Citadel first opened its doors in 2003 its name was, The Citadel of Praise Tabernacle of Deliverance. I knew all along that a major facet of our work would be, deliverance ministry. Therefore, I have been operating under a power straight from heaven that is sent to set the captive free (Luke 4:18).

Your relationship with the Lord is unlike any other relationship that you can lead in life, because its benefits yield to you in a way that no one or thing can give. This is why your struggle to stay on the right path with God is so great. There is an enemy of your mind, body, and soul and that is evidenced in John 10:10. Earthen life is thronged with good and evil, righteousness and unrighteousness, as well as light and darkness, all of which encircles your existence everyday. Therefore, you have to constantly rebuke the work of Satan off of you when you know that God is the only way, truth, and life.

Easier said than done, right? Yes, indeed; thus hints the title of this article, The STRUGGLE is REAL. My work in people’s lives toward deliverance has revealed to me so much about demonic presence, which prevents people from living the life they desire. So often, people make their confessions to God, while simultaneously inviting and entertaining ungodly people, influences and ways into their world. Again, this happens all at once. So, there is a war going on, in and around you for your best life. To not know this, is to succumb to the fight. To not fight, is to surrender to the opposing force.

I must admit, that the title of the article is not original. Many college students and young adults have coined the phrase, “The Struggle Is Real” to mean that living without sufficient funds and trying to make it is no joke. They refer to eating off the dollar menu at a fast food restaurant as opposed to having a home-cooked meal as a struggle. Or, having to eat a hot dog on a piece of sliced bread as opposed to a conventional hot dog bun as being a struggle. Well, allow me to say that those things aren’t really struggles at all when you consider the battle that is going on in the spirit.

One might ask, ‘what is this fight and which side are you on?’ I Timothy 6:12 states:

“Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were

called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.”

So, there it is…it’s the good fight that you are fighting; if, in-fact, you are fighting at all. If you have given up, it is not unto life but rather unto death. Therefore, I say to you, STAY on the battlefield, your life depends on it! If we faint not, we shall reap a harvest (Galatians 6:9).

I safely assume, it’s the Lord’s side you are on because you are reading this magazine. With that being the case, lets discuss some basics about being on God’s side, which means that you have confessed the Lord Jesus and received Him as your savior.

We must view salvation as practical and stop making it so complicated. Saved people should not cohabite or “shack-up” (as the old-school church puts it) before marriage (Ephesians 5:3). Saved people should live sober lives, free from drug and alcohol addictions (1 Peter 5:8, Galatians 5:21). Saved people shouldn’t operate in anger, malice, deceit or wrath (Colossians 3:8). Saved people shouldn‘t go places or do things that do not agree with the spirit of God, therefore we sacrifice many of the pleasures of our fleshly desires (Hebrews 12:1, Galatians 5:17). And lastly, saved people should not fellowship with the world of darkness (2 Corinthians 6:14-17). Now, I can go on and on here but these are the basics that I will discuss for this article. These, along with other teachings on holiness and righteous living, are the things that define salvation and validate a relationship with God.

If you are not willing to present your mind, body, and soul, a living sacrifice then you are confused about salvation (Romans 12:1). This is where the struggle is evoked because salvation moves from being grey to being a black and white reality. I find that we, in order to accommodate our own desires, lean to our own understanding more than we embrace the mind that Christ has given to us.

Philippians 2:5 states, “Let this mind be in you that was also in Christ Jesus” which means that you cannot successfully lead a life in God, while withholding the thoughts and ideas that are based in your own opinions and conclusions. The STRUGGLE Is REAL! You must put off the old man and put on the new man when you are reborn. It is not longer about you, but rather its about His will working in you. Have you given God a sincere and unconditional yes?

“You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted

by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self,

created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.” – Ephesians 4:22-24

As a Pastor, my assignment is to be a proponent of that “Christ-like” mind. This means that above what you think, feel, or believe, there is a God -guide that you must be concerned with and be willing to submit to, throughout life. Relevant to that, God has placed me on His pasture to be the under-shepherd of sheep that he has called me to lead. The easy side of my calling is that many people are drawn to this pasture and have celebrated the change they experience under my leadership. The difficult side of it is that, those same people, once the struggle sets in and real change is taking place, aren’t willing to continue to follow me, as I follow Christ. These persons end up being causalities of spiritual warfare, and resolve to living quiet lives, off the battlefield. They end up in a dark corner of spirituality where no light can continue to be shed upon their issues and consistency, or lack thereof with the Lord. I admit, my calling is complex; but that is only true when you allow the struggle to overshadow your deliverance. Otherwise, my (and all other ministry leaders) calling is clear: I am not called to make believers feel good about anything that seems good; which often offends. I am not released to relax the scripture commandments over our lives to accommodate man’s agenda; which often separates people from ministry. I am not required to bless something that God has cursed; which often causes people to withdraw their support of the ministry or minister. Nor is it acceptable for me to overlook demonic work in people’s personalities and character in exchange for their loyalty and approval of the work or ministry; this is where the struggle gets real.

However, I am called, released and charged by the Holy Spirit to fulfill the work that has fell upon me, as I referred to initially when I stated that God has called me a “General of Deliverance”. This spirit--that is upon me, is that same spirit that fell upon Christ after reading Isaiah’s prophetic words:

The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the

poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised…” - Luke :17-21

This commission has nothing to do with me but everything to do with the God in me. I happen to be one of them that God has chosen for the work of ministry in the lives of His people, while He yet works in my own. Therefore, it is no secret why many people struggle with being led into their change. It is connected to their struggle with God.

There is no judgment in that conclusion, it’s merely the fact of the matter. After 18 years of ministry, with 11 of them being a Senior Pastor, I realize that the longer you ignore what separates people from God, in exchange for their friendship, loyalty or involvement, the longer they will be bound by those things and never embrace and achieve a life of happiness and freedom in God. Therefore, I often wonder, ‘will the people every come to that realization for themselves???’

Demons and demonic presence seeks to cement itself within us; loving you to death, not to life. Therefore, when a true minister of God comes and seeks to evict evil spirits from one’s mind, body and soul, they challenge him or her and everything that they stand for. This is because those spirits do not want to let go of

their place, which has become their residence. They came to occupy, never intending to leave, until you die and are eternally damned to hell behind them. Quick prayer: “Satan, NO RESIDENCE! In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Let’s go deeper. Imagine the struggle that takes place when someone doesn’t want to let go of its hold on you. Picture the grappling, grabbing and gripping of the fight, the clinging of the clamor, the clinch of the clutch. Now, visualize that struggle in the spirit. Your righteous mind has lead you to church but the unrighteous demon possessing your mind, wants you to be distracted, offended and rejected while you are there, to ensure that there will be no real and substantial spiritual growth. Your righteous spirit has led you to a spiritual covering that demons seek to diminish and demolish while your pastor is at work building a sure foundation in your life.

If I were you, I would stop here for a moment and pray a prayer to evict those demons from your mind and your journey with God. Said prayer can be as simple as saying: “Satan, I renounce you and your work in my mind, body and soul. I am God’s property and I rebuke you out of and off of my life, in Jesus’ name. Amen.”

Now, please don’t stop reading. With your focus, continue on. There is more to be heard in this article.

I am reminded of Judas’ story in the Bible. While he was traveling with Jesus, as one of His disciples, he actually never acknowledged Jesus as Lord, such as the other disciples. He only called him “Rabbi” which means teacher. This is proof that you can be under a spiritual covering and struggle with who they are called to be to you. Judas’ lack of faith in Jesus, was the foundation for his struggle with Jesus. This is gateway number one that Judas opened to demonic influence.

Secondly, Judas not only lacked faith, but he had no personal relationship with Jesus. In all the synoptic gospels, the twelve disciples are listed in the same order, which is believed to indicate their closeness to Christ. Judas is listed last in each interpretation. The only mentions of conversation between Jesus and Judas were the rebukes that Jesus carried out because of his unwise, greed-motivated remarks to Mary (john 12:1-8), his denial of the betrayal of Jesus (Matthew 26:25) and the betrayal itself (Luke 22:48). Lack of relationship with your leader, who has availed themselves for a relationship with you (Judas was a disciple not a member of the multitude), becomes another factor in the foundation of your struggles. This is gateway number two that Judas opened to demonic influence.

Lastly, false agendas plagued Judas’s mind. He was the steward of the money-bag which meant he had an interest in money. He was found making greedy remarks about capitalizing on the oil that was used to wash Jesus’ feet. His false motives led him to believe that Jesus was going to overthrow Roman occupation, which, if Jesus did, Judas would have been amongst those who would be in power. When Jesus revealed that he wasn’t there to overthrow the government but rather to die as a sacrifice, Judas’s agendas were upset; which is why he no longer placed value in his loyalty to Jesus. This is a third gateway that opened Judas up to demonic influence. When you start to devalue your God sent leadership wherein you once placed value upon it, because your agendas are not being met, you are in the thick of the struggle for your soul.

All of these things combined, laid the foundation for Judas’s struggle and opened gateways for Satan to win the struggle for Judas’s soul. It is clearly stated in John 13:27 when Satan actually entered into Judas. These things have I discussed because it is exactly what is happening in the church of God. People are really struggling with righteousness, not only in the streets, but in the church as well. There is nothing wrong with church people not being perfect, because we all have something to continually repent for. But the caveat is that church people are loosing the battle to their struggles because they leave the battlefield in exchange for convenience and lack of accountability in life.

Even though God knows all, Judas, yet had a choice not to betray Jesus. And just like Judas, we, in the midst of our struggles, yet have a choice. Situational conflict causes you to have conversations with yourself and often these questions run through your mind: Do I choose the way of God defined in His word or the way that seems right, which is only defined in my feelings and emotions? Do I choose to stay submitted to God and God sent leadership or should I follow my own path and my own independent route to God? Do I remain humble when being corrected, rebuked or chastised or do I stand up for myself because my spirit doesn’t understand or agree? Better yet, is the spirit that I have the right spirit at all? Seeing that you don’t have the power to save yourself it’s NOT self that you should be having these conversations with, but rather God!

My brothers and sisters, I digress in saying that these situations, and more like them, further define the struggle with God. Nevertheless, just as sure as our struggle is real, the victory that we have in Christ is even more real and could never be trumped by our trials!

As a General of Deliverance, I will march on and continue to battle with every spirit from hell, standing toe to toe with Satan, that seeks to divide God’s people from their peace, happiness, health and prosperity. Will you join me in the good fight of faith? I implore you, with all relish and grace given to me to make this appeal: stay on the battlefield. God will give us all, strength for the struggle! #victoryismine #strengthforthestruggle

How has God’s Goodness and Grace blessed you this summer?

Well Chile’, The Lord has truly been faithful to me with his grace! Now let me tell you all

about it! Mother has been going through some trials and tribulations this summer while

trying to overcome the famine. We all know that Mother loves The Lord, But I say to

you, this time has truly been rough for me. I like to call it, “A Walk Of Faith.” When I

say, “A Walk Of Faith”, I’m talking about putting all your plans and doings out of the

way, and letting God have his way in your life. God’s goodness has truly been a blessing

to ole Mother. I don’t know where I would be without The Lord’s grace. His grace is

sufficient. He gives it to us freely and it’s our choice to be thankful for it. Now chilren’ I

challenge you to lay ALL your burdens and problems on the altar and watch God move

in alliance with his Awesome Grace!!!

How do you continue to Praise God through the good times and bad times?

Well this is my favorite thing to talk about. I praise

God through the good, bad, worst, great, and most

confusing times I may be experiencing in my walk

with Christ. Remember that our praise moves God!

God inhabits the praises of his people. If it all just

seems like it’s not going to work out, or you may be

experiencing the worst of times, that’s your

opportunity to use your praise in the midst of your

circumstance to get strength by praising him in

advance. We must not quench the Spirit! Let em’

use you chile’! Mother loves you!

The Pentecost is known as the establishment of the Church and the marking point of the occurrence of the Holy Spirit. The Citadel of Praise celebrated Pentecost by wearing red and white. Tribe of David delivered a breathtaking performance by dancing to “Free” by Kierra Sheard. The congregation could not resist the Spirit of God, and by the end of the performance hands were lifted and faces were drenched with tears.

On the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit fell upon the Apostles and they began speaking in other languages. During Pentecost everyone was on one accord, which allowed them to gain access to the power of the Holy Spirit. If modern day churches would become vulnerable enough to be on one accord; the Holy Spirit would come into the atmosphere and shift situations.

Churches are not experiencing this because we have too many questions about the Holy Spirit and need to be delivered from Demonic distractions. We need to get to a point where our hunger for the Holy Spirit is greater than the things of this world. Do you want it bad enough? Exodus 34:14 makes it plain by affirming that God is a jealous God. It is time to stop cheating ourselves, and recognize that all battles will be fought by prayer and praise through the Holy Spirit. –Written by: Keia Harris

The highlight of the night was when Pastor Drumwright’s team proved to be champions, by winning the night’s kickball game with a score of 14 to 3! The summer session cookout was the perfect medicine for a hard worked school year.

On June 14th, The Citadel of Praise honored fellowship by hosting a Summer Session Cookout in Cumberland Park for students and friends. The Citadel pulled their talents into the kitchen and created finger licking dishes. As Pastor says, “If a person has love in their heart while cooking, the love will be enjoyed through the food”. That statement was very true for this special occasion.

Teenagers are future fortune five hundred business owners, teachers, healthcare workers, mentors and so much more. It is important to keep our teens engaged in activities that stimulate their minds and play a role in building their confidence and knowledge. Greensboro City Council member, Sharon Hightower coordinated a “Teen Summit” city event on Saturday, May 31st. This event was located in downtown Greensboro in front of the Cultural Arts Center. The goal of the affair was to help inform teens of what programs, events, and activities were available throughout the summer, such as career and leadership development. Those in attendance included the City Council, local young adults and of course, Pastor Drumwright and the Citadel family and friends.

Free food and refreshments were served as music serenaded the ears of visitors. Various booths promoted organizations such as, the Grand 18 movie theatre and Poetry Project-org. The Poetry Project organization allowed youth to use poetry and other forms of expression as a healthy outlet. Members of the Citadel such as Autumn Clowe, Brianne Alston, Javari McNair, and Alexis Williamson participated in poetry and sang “He Wants it All” by Forever Jones. The evening was a success and many individuals walked away inspired and refreshed. It is important to give back to teens, for they will one day give back to us.

SAINTS SAY Come on now saints! Hasn’t He been Good?

It was exciting as well as shocking to see how many of our members were anointed for the kitchen! As friends and family focused on the delicious lip smacking desserts, it became more difficult to determine who would walk away with the title. By the end of the event we crowned a winner, Brian’s mouth watering Sweet Potato Cake proved to be the finest dish of the evening. Congratulations to Brian again, for being titled Citadels first “Cake Boss”! Thank you family and friends for joining the bake challenge, as well as coming to feast and support! This summer, The Citadel planned to step outside of the box and hit the community with something new and electrifying! On Sunday June 29th, we hosted a “Citadel Cake Challenge”, held at The Episcopal Church Of The Redeemer. Family and friends came to determine who would be crowned the “Citadel Cake Boss”! Contestants included Citadels own Sister Linda Walters, Jasmine Breeden, Ashley Walters, Dallas Richardson, Bria Bonner, Minister Sanders, Brian Cohen, Zachary Tanner and the acclaimed Pastor Gregory B. Drumwright. There was an array of desserts which included Pineapple cake, Cream Cheese Pound Cake, Banana Pudding Cheese Cake, Rich Strabon Cupcakes, Red Velvet Ice Cream Cake, Sweet Potato cake, Strawberry Mango Chocolate Cheesecake and Southern Peach Cobbler.

These teachings are all about receiving the Spirit of Wisdom (Isaiah 11:1-2). God’s wisdom is not the wisdom of the world because it cannot be bought, studied or earned. However, Godly wisdom is made available to us through relationship with His Spirit and His word. Proverbs 23:14 reveals that a wise man has great power and a man of knowledge increases his strength. To better understand that verse, lets consider the inverse, which would mean that an ignorant man has no power and his lack of knowledge gives him no strength for living.


- “THE WISDOM SERIES” -

1 Corinthians 2:11-3 No one knows the thoughts God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in the words taught to us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words.

“God doesn’t operate on

the schedule of our life but rather the

schedule FOR our life, which will be revealed to us by His wisdom.” +PGD


This sermon taught us to change our perspective on pain and suffering. If we focus on what we feel and see, then we have lost sight of the bigger picture. Christ suffered the ultimate sacriface at calvary for all of our sins. Why take that for granted? How can we focus on our pain so as to elevate what we are going through above the pain that Christ bore for us? This places the bar of perserverance much higher than what we realize. Therefore we can’t give up. Well, we can but we shouldn’t. If Christ bled, suffered and died for all that we would go through, we must realize that failure and fainting is not an option…THE STAKES ARE TOO HIGH!

- “The Stakes are Too High!” -

“The more we bless God’s name in the midst of the battle and the mix of the fight the more likely the

enemy is to be confused by our praise.” -PGD

2 Corinthians 4:11, 16-17 | For we who live are always being given over to the death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our mortal flesh. Therefore we do not loose heart for our light affliction, which is temporary, achieves for us an eternal glory. So we fix our eyes on what is unseen, not what is seen.

Luke 21:11, 14-17 | There will be great famines and fearful events and great signs from heaven. But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. I will give you words of wisdom that none of your adversaries will be able to resist or contradict. You will be betrayed even by parents, brothers, relatives and friends, and they will put some of your to death. All me will hate you because of me. But not a hair of your head will perish. By standing firm you will gain life.

“It is impossible for us to be lazy and reach our God potential in life.” -PGD

Recognizing that many people in the body of Christ are experiencing a battle within their finances; struggling to obtain the proper provisions they need to survive in this life, Pastor Drumwright spoke a word over the house. Understanding the prophetic mantle displayed in the Word of God, leads us to know that God uses His prophets to speak his blessings and deliver his curses'. In that same vein, PGD preached, "I Rebuke the Famine". This is to devour any curse off of the lives of those connected to The Citadel. Since that time, many people have shared their testimonies about how God has blessed them and answered prayer. It is God's prevailing wish that we may be in good health as our soul proposers (3 John 1:2). God's people will always be provided for. Receive the rebuke, this one (rebuke) is easy for all of us to accept!

State Park Over twenty family and friends of The Citadel spent their Fourth of July together in fellowship as they ventured out to Pilot Mountain State Park in Pinnacle, NC. After arriving at the camping grounds, a phenomenal feast took place. A number of assorted cuisines were shared throughout the fellowship such as Zach’s sushi rolls and Sheena’s Chocolate Covered Strawberries. After eating, everyone prepared to explore the mountains. Their hiking experience took place on the infamous, Jomeokee Trail, which encircles the large Pinnacle of Pilot Mountain.

During their hike, they managed to stop, listen, and reflect on the word of God from Pastor Gregory Drumwright. He shared with them that wickedness can be found in all places. It used to be above us, but God has saved us and can uplift us above any circumstance or “mountain.” He said, “Our journey is a mountain and we are conquerors.” Not only did they hear a word from God, but they also worshiped through songs and shared testimonies. Everyone enjoyed ushering in the presence of God in such a serene place.

Testimony

Recently, I have been going through a lot of hardship and started to lose faith. My bank account was in the double negatives and my family slowly started to lose faith in me. I didn't know what to do, so I asked God for help. Shortly after seeking God, I had an interview with UPS. During the interview, it seemed as though they had no intentions of hiring me. However, I did not give up. I was empowered with the right words to say by the Holy Ghost and the employee’s interviewing me said that they saw Gods hand on me. STEP INTO THE

WORLD

Wendell McFarland is a Senior Information Technology student with a concentration in Software Development from Durham, NC. At the age of 22, he attends North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. Wendell is a very intellectual and hardworking individual who enjoys working with computers. You can always catch Wendell studying at the library. Not only is he dedicated to his studies, but he is also dedicated to ministry. Wendell serves as one of Pastor Gregory B. Drumwright’s Armor Bearers and he ministers on the Mime Ministry. He plays a huge role when it comes to ministry. However, this summer he is not physically able to be with The Citadel because God has blessed him with an Internship in Detroit, Michigan working for Ford Motor Company. Wendell applied for this Internship because he was interested in Software Development at a Global Company. He also wanted experience with the Automotive Industry and his only opportunity available was at the Ford World Headquarters in Detroit. While on the job, his duties consist of keeping track of multimillion and multiyear programs and Program GOTD (Global Order To Delivery). As of now, Wendell is a Program Manager and SharePoint Developer who works in the Project Management Office.

Outside of work, things can get a little uneasy for Wendell when loneliness starts to kick in. He does not have any close family or friends around. The only thing he has to keep him together is God. This time of Isolation has really allowed him to spend quality time with God with all distractions muted. Because Wendell is not able to attend The Citadel of Praise every Sunday and he is not in his comfort zone, he has to work even harder to continue to build his relationship with God. Although he is away from his church family physically, Wendell continues to stay connected by using the Bi-Weekly Citadel Conference Calls, social networks, and prayer. It is not hard for Wendell to be away from home, but not having his car is a downfall. This has taught him how to adapt to his surroundings quickly and allowed him to completely trust in God. Ultimately, in this internship, Wendell has found corporate experience. He is expected to return in August of 2014 and reunite with his studies, family, friends, and ministry.
