General Framework

Wine and Tuscany are two words which broadcast the culture and tradition of a land. This association of words is mainly due to the ‘Sangiovese’.‘Sangiovese’ is the main Italian grapevine cultivar which constitutes the ampelographic platform for wine pro-duction in Tuscany. In recent years, this variety has beco-me increasingly important in winemaking both natio-nally and internationally.The wines produced with Sangiovese are numerous and of high quality and this applies to those produced from this variety alone as well as to those produced with additional variety.The great wines produced with Sangiovese in Tuscany like Brunello di Montalcino, Carmignano, Chianti, Chian-ti Classico, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano among others have a growing reputation and have increasingly gained the attention of viticulturists all around the world.The Regional administration of Tuscany and, due its role in the development of Agriculture, the Arsia (Regional Agency for the Development and Innovation in the Agri-cultural and Forest Sectors) organised in 2000 and 2004 with national and international scientific institutions, the first and the second international Symposia on Sangiove-se. Many countries involved in viticulture and enology showed interest and more than 250 people attended both symposia. Considering the positive results of previous symposia and in order to increase the value of the “San-giovese model” in the international level, though a com-plete evaluation of terroirs able to produce fine wine. Arsia is organising the third International Symposium on Sangiovese with the principal aim of comparing different international terroir models to produce fine wine.

The Third International Symposium will take place in Florence from 3 to 5 December, 2008at the Palazzo dei Congressi, Sala Verde, piazza Adua, 1.
