Looking for additional resources to encourage your child to read over Summer break? Below is a “Top Ten” Reading Apps (for i-Pads) list that will keep them reading all summer long!

1. EPIC is a subscription-based e-book library that’s just $4.99 per month, and it’s filled with more than 20,000 e-books! Audience: up to age 12 2. Reading Rainbow‘s SKYBRARY is a carefully curated, ever expanding interactive library of digital books and video explorations designed to engage young readers and foster a love of learning. You can do a 1-month FREE trial for the summer!

3. For great nonfiction reading practice, the Time for Kids app can’t be beat. It brings current events to life for children. Audience: age 9-11 4. Starfall is perfect for younger students. This was originally just a website, but it is being transitioned into an app. Starfall is a wonderful website with many great learning materials for kids in PreK to Grade 2. Keep an eye on this app as it continues to expand! 5. Sight Words Learning Games and Reading Flash Cards provides ample opportunities to learn all 220 Dolch words through a series of six games and activities. 6. For emerging readers, BOB Books have always been a favorite. Now they’re an app!! They take children on an interactive journey that blends learning, reading, and fun. 7. Another fun sight word app is Sight Word Ninja. If you’ve ever played Fruit Ninja, you know how addictive it is. In this game, the fruit is replaced with sight words! 8. Teach Your Monster to Read is a favorite! Teach Your Monster to Read is an award-winning phonics and reading game. 9. The Dr. Seuss Treasury includes 55 Dr. Seuss classics which have been adapted into delightful interactive experiences. 10. PROCEDURE TO REPORT A STUDENT ABSENCE—A parent/guardian is to call the school to report a school absence ON THE DAY OF THE ABSENCE. You may leave a VOICE MAIL message at 885-5246. Press 1, and answer the questions, pressing the # button after each response. Voicemail is available 24 hours a day to report an absence. Calls prior to 8:00 am are encouraged and appreciated. If a call hasn’t been received by 10:00am the day of each absence, a School Messenger reminder notification will be delivered by telephone. A call is needed EACH DAY a student is absent. Your child should remain home if they have diarrhea, vomiting or an elevated temperature of 100 or

above. Students may return to school once they have been diarrhea free, vomiting free, and fever

free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medications.

ALL PRO DADS—What is All Pro Dads? All Pro Dads is a breakfast meeting held once a month before school where fathers and their children meet with other dads and kids to enjoy a Chick-fil-A breakfast in the school cafeteria. At this gathering we discuss a wide range of family topics, spend time together, have fun and equip each other with resources to strengthen our family relationships. Learn more at www.allprodad.com. If you have any questions regarding All Pro Dads, please contact the team captain at [email protected].

ATTENTION KIDS – NOMINATE YOUR TEACHER FOR TEACHER OF THE MONTH Your teacher could win a $100 IMCU gift card and your class could win a pizza party compliments of Chicago's Pizza. Send your name, address and telephone number along with a 100-word summary of why your teacher should be honored as the IMCU/ICON Teacher of the Month to [email protected]. Sponsored by the Center Grove ICON and Indiana Members Credit Union.

STUDENT DISMISSAL GUIDELINES—If your child is doing something other than riding the school bus that is assigned to your home address, it is important that you notify us of the change. All changes to regular routines need to be requested by 3:00pm (2:15pm on Wednesdays). Dismissals that require a note or email: *Middle of day pickup in Office for appointments; *Unscheduled end of day pick up in Cafeteria; *Regular Parent pick up in Cafeteria, either everyday or on regularly scheduled days of the week (contact the office for a form to fill out); *Going to Daycare (list daycare provider—this also includes Honey Grove); *Walking to Brentwood subdivision; *Riding a different bus due to childcare reasons (requires permission from Transportation) (in your note list bus number and the address students are going to) Please note that everyone picking up students either from the Office during the day, or from the Cafeteria after school, will be required to show a driver’s license every time they pick up. If it is easier for you to email dismissal arrangements vs. sending a note to school, please email Patty Kaschak, Office Assistant, at [email protected]

REMINDER FROM THE CLINIC—Please check in Skyward to see if your child’s immunizations are up to date. If not, please be sure to send updated records as soon as possible. If you have questions regarding immunizations, please contact Mrs. Debbie Hazelbaker in the Sugar Grove Clinic.
