Recognized under the brand names of Plexiglas® andLucite®, acrylic is an optically clear, transparent mate-rial having outstanding weatherability, high impactresistance, good chemical resistance and is easilythermoformed and fabricated.

Acrylic is less than half the weight of glass and is suit-able in a wide range of applications. Some of themost requested items that we routinely fabricate outof acrylic include: fume hoods, dry boxes, draftshields, instrument covers and enclosures, safetyshields, battery covers, flanged spools, transparenttanks and sight glasses.

Polycarbonate

Lexan® polycarbonate sheet is vir-tually unbreakable transparentplastic, excellent in applicationswhere safety and security areimportant. Polycarbonate can beused in many of the same applica-tions as acrylic when impactstrength is a factor.

PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)

PVC sheet is a normal impact, high corrosion resistantmaterial, ideally suited where chemical resistance is nec-essary. It’s high strength-to-weight ratio, cost efficiency,ease of fabrication and eco-balance make it an excellentchoice. PVC is easily machined and weldable. We rou-tinely use PVC sheet to fabricate various types of enclo-sures and covers, cabinets, fume hoods and tanks, and inconjunction with PVC pipe and fittings.

PVC pipe and fittings give excellent, maintenance freeperformance over long periods of time and have outstand-ing chemical resistance to nearly all acids, alkalis, alco-hols, halogens and many other corrosive materials. It isweather resistant and non-toxic.

Corzan™ CPVC (Chlorinated PolyvinylChloride)

Corzan™ CPVC sheet is a high heat, corrosionresistant material with properties similar to PVC,but because of its excellent corrosion resistanceat elevated temperatures, it is ideally suited forself-supporting constructions where high temper-atures are a concern.

We have extensive experience with CPVC as aconstruction material, including tower internalsand many other process applications.

Corzan™ CPVC pipe and fittings gainadvantage over PVC by retaining itsmechanical strength at high tempera-tures.

UHMWPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene)

UHMWPE has extremely high abrasion resistance when compared to other thermoplastics. It alsohas exceptional impact resistance, even at cryogenic temperatures, is chemical resistant and is self-lubricating. It also meets FDA and USDA requirements.

HDPE (High Density Polyethylene)

HDPE is an economical, high impact, lightweight thermoplasticwhich characteristics include excellent chemical resistance, hightensile strength, resilience, stress crack and abrasion resistance.It is easily machined and requires welded or mechanical style ofconstruction.

We use HDPE to fabricate many items for the laboratory andplant processes, including tanks, countertops, catch pans, fumehoods and lab ware carriers. It meets FDA and USDA require-ments.

Some common applications forUHMWPE are chutes, convey-ors, wear plates, bushings androllers.

Porous HDPE

Porous HDPE is a free-sinteredmaterial that produces porousplastic products with excellent fil-tration efficiency of fine solid par-ticulate combined with excellentflowability of liquids and gases. Controlledparticle size distribution and a precise tem-perature cycle are used to produce a widerange of interconnected cell structures andspecific pore size ranges. These pore struc-tures are designed and controlled to functionin a variety of applications such as filtering,wicking, diffusing or venting gases, andsound muffling.

Porous plastics retain most of the physicalproperties of their solid counterparts, but alsooffer a unique set of properties. The unique“tortuous filtration path” of the material pro-duces high filtration efficiency combining theproperties of both surface and depth filters.Porous plastics have excellent resiliency, highphysical strength and light weight providing a rugged, easily han-dled part. Filtration efficiencies of 99.8% can be achieved.

We can fabricate filtration products from porous HDPE sheet andtube to your specifications.

CPG Seaboard™

CPG Seaboard™ is a marine grade high density polyethylenesheet manufactured from the highest density HDPE resin, ensur-ing that it will be the most rigid and dimensionally stable productavailable. Pre-production treatment provides every sheet withenhanced ability to resist the harmful effects of salt water, mois-ture and direct sunlight (UV degradation). It has a slight texturedsurface which minimizes the appearance of scratches.

CPG Seaboard™

CPG Seaboard™ is fabricated andwelded using the same techniques asused with HDPE. It also meets all regu-lations of the FDA.

Polypropylene

Polypropylene is an economical, light-weight thermoplastic that offers high cor-rosion resistance, abrasion and impactresistance. It exhibits tensile strengthand stiffness at elevated temperaturessuperior to HDPE. Polypropylene car-ries USDA and FDA approval and isstain resistant. It is machined easily andrequires welded or mechanical style ofconstruction.

We utilize polypropylene in the fabrication of flange spacers, catch pans, countertops and variousother applications.

TEFLON® PTFE (Polytetrafluoruethylene)

Teflon® is used to produce products which have service temperature capabilities exceeding all otherthermoplastics. It has a combination of chemical, electrical, mechanical and thermal propertiesunmatched by any other material, and it is the most chemically inert of any material known. Almostnothing sticks to Teflon® and it is the most heat resistant of organic materials. It is unaffected byweathering and is an excellent electrical insulator.

We use Teflon® to fabricate flange spacers, gaskets and numerous machined parts.

PVDF (Polyvinylidene Fluoride)

PVDF, known under the brand names of Kynar® and Hylar®, is a high performance thermoplastic thatcombines great mechanical strength and high abrasion resistance with a broad temperature range.It is highly resistant to most environmental conditions and corrosive chemicals.

We routinely use PVDF in the fabrication of flange spacers, tower internals and wherever superiorthermoplastic characteristics are necessary.

Corzan™ CPVC weir trough distributor with elevated partingbox, utilizing triangular weirs for flow distribution. Good forfouling services and turndown capabilities.

PVDF eight-foot diameter, liquid distributor designed torest between tower body flanges. Distributor is fabri-cated with slotted weir down pipes and wipe vapor pas-sages near the flanges.

Corzan™ CPVC chimney tray for liquid collectionand draw-off. Contains multiple vapor risers forequal vapor distribution.

PVDF liquid redistributor with vapor risers and angled driptubes. Sectional construction incorporates lateral crossflow tubes for liquid transfer.

MTS-109 PVC distributor, fabricated under exclusivelicense with Nutter Engineering from Dow Chemical.Sectional design minimizes out of level effects. Angledrop tubes provide flexibility in turndown situation.

PVDF gas injection type packing support, spanning eightfeet in diameter. High open area design, while not com-promising its rigidity.

PVDF pipe-arm (ladder-arm) type distributor. This typedistributor can be fabricated for use in liquid or vaporapplications. It can also be fabricated with fitted spraynozzles.

PVDF 84” diameter, gas injection packing support platewith high open area. Support plate utilizes 2” PVDFpipe with encapsulate FRP rod for added rigidity.

PVDF eight-foot diameter, single vapor riser liquid collec-tor, with welded PVC wall wiper for total liquid drain-off.Designed for critical service requiring zero liquid leakage.Collector was piece welded inside the tower using S.G. & P.field services.

PDVF three-foot diameter,gas injection type packingsupport designed to fitbetween tower body flangesand also designed for a highopen area.

Vacuum formed domes for bus shelters fabricated fromhigh impact acrylic.

CVPC liner vacuum formed in two halves incorporating ribsin the mold for rigidity. The pieces are then welded togetherand overlaid in fiberglass.

GLASSWARE


Glassblowing

S. G. & P., Inc. has a full scale glass-

blowing facility which employs a highly

skilled staff of glassblowers. We do

custom fabrication of new glassware, as

well as repair work.

We primarily use two types of glass in

our fabrication: borosilicate and quartz.

Borosilicate glass is also known under

the brand names of Pyrex® (a registered

trademark of Corning Glassworks) and

Kimax® (a registered trademark of Kimble

Glass Company). Pyrex® and Kimax® are

used in the fabrication of most laboratory

apparatus and are compatible when

mixed. These glasses have a high

resistance against chemical attack and

thermal shock. Due to a low coefficient

of expansion, mechanical breakage is

minimized.

Quartz glass is transparent and contains

99.9% silica. Characterized by practically

zero thermal expansion, quartz is not

affected by thermal

shock. Excellent uses

for quartz include:

furnace tubes, flat

sight glasses requiring

high temperature, or

any high-temperature

situation.

MINITROLGlas-Col Minitrol allows manual heat control. The operator manually adjuststhe Minitrol, which has a percentage-timer design and no sensing element. Itregulates mantles, tapes, and cords, as well as small furnaces, ovens, hotplates, dies, and other applications requiring stepless control. Minitrol mayalso be used on any non-inductive loads to its rated capacity. It proportionsthe operating voltage to the load from 5 1/2% to 100% of the time according tothe preset dial position. When turned off, it effects a positive break. For verysmall loads, smaller fuses may be used. PL3122 Minitwin handles two sepa-rate circuits. A pilot light is connected across the output side of the control,indicating power to load. With the desired temperature determined on the ini-tial run, a simple dial setting controls repeat operation.
