Minutes of Soc Fed Thursday 11 th October 2012 Present: Anicom, Gaming, Craft, TV & Movies, Christian Union, Real Ale, Mind Body and Spirit, Mechanical Engineering, NERF, Teesside Entrepreneurs, Live Literature, Psychology Interest, Film Production, History, Legal, World Art House Cinema, Music, Drama, Interlink, Nigerian, Stephanie Crookson (SC), Hannah Graham (HG), John Pinkney (JP), Naomi O’Neill (NON). 1. Apologies Crime Scene, Trading Standards, Hannah Parratt (HP). 2. Minutes of previous meeting passed as a true record 3. Committee Introduction SC lead an introduction to each society, with committee members giving a brief description of their society’s aims and overview for the coming year. SC to attend each society’s weekly meeting and take photos of the committee members for the official Facebook page. 4. Societies Committee SC explained the role of committee members: 3 meetings per year and Grant/Kit allocation responsibilities. The vote was taken by a show of hands for the eight candidates. The following five club committee members were voted as members of the Societies Committee 2012-13 with no opposition. Sarah Mitchell (Gaming Society) Iain Clement (Real Ale) Tom Elliott (NERF) Kris Mork (Mechanical Engineering) James Francey-Frost (Drama) 5. AGM’s and Induction Process – SC advised all societies who had not held their AGM’s or Induction meetings to contact Hannah Parratt or Naomi O’Neill as soon as possible. 6. Students’ Union Annual General Meeting HG & JP explained about this year’s AGM with the VC on Monday 22 nd October in the HUB at 5:00pm. The reward for the society with the best attendance was explained and questions were answered. HG & JP also discussed the recent achievements of the SU and how the Ballot and Fresher’s were well received. 7. Social Policies SC handed out the policies and asked all committee members to read, sign and return to the AC as soon as possible. 8. Societies Federation Tour SC explained the details for this year’s tour – Barcelona in March 2013 for 4-5 days, total cost £180 per person.

9. RAG – SC explained this year’s plan for RAG. (RAG week between 11th – 18th

November) Adopt a charity scheme was discussed. 10. VInspired & Voluntees – SC explained the two schemes with the award process, and

discussed how to get more information from the scheme’s websites, or by contacting HP.

11. Health and Safety – SC requested any societies with Health and safety issues to use this time to make themselves known/ask any questions – None were put forward.

12. A.O.B a. Drama – Showcase on Wednesday 17th October in the Main Hall from 7:30pm.

Tickets were on sale for £2 each, or £1 for SU employees. b. Crafts – Are holding a drink and draw night at the Swatters Carr on 24 November

with competitions. All levels of drawing welcomed. c. Mind Body and Spirit – Are holding a stall on Wednesday 17th October in the SU,

with card readings. d. Real Ale – Have arranged a Ale Trail on Saturday 13th October – all are welcome.

13. Date of Next Meeting – Wednesday 8th November.
