Asexual Reproduction
• This is where a single organism will reproduce by itself, through mitosis, fragmentation, or cell division. It does not involve egg or sperm.
![Page 4: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)
Asexual Reproduction
• Organism that reproduces asexually: – Bacteria– Some fish– Some plants– Worms– Single cell protists

Sexual Reproduction
• Involves the joining of egg (from female) and sperm (from male). This is called fertilization.

Plants
Some plants have reproductive structures called flowers
![Page 9: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
Flowers Stamen is the male part of a flower, which has the
pollen (plant’s sperm cells)
![Page 10: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
Flowers
• Pistil is the female part of a flower, which has the ovule.
• The ovule holds the plant’s egg cells
![Page 11: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
Flowers
• The flower uses petals to attract pollinators (like birds and insects) to the flowers.
![Page 12: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
Flowers• Pollination is when a pollen grain lands on a
flower's pistil, and the pollen grain then grows a pollen tube to the ovule.

The seed
• The seed develops into a baby plant.
![Page 16: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/16.jpg)
The seed
• Many times the seed is surrounded by a fruit, so that it can develop and be deposited on the ground under the right conditions and in different places.
![Page 17: Sexual and Asexual Reproduction](https://reader036.vdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081422/568166c8550346895ddad3e2/html5/thumbnails/17.jpg)
The seed
• The seed then develops and grows into a plant when the conditions are right.
