the finished Head/Body/Skirt piecestogether. Position the flat (open) edgeof one of the stuffed arms between thenotches on each side, tucking the armsbetween the Head/Body/Skirt pieces, and pin in place.

w Begin at one corner of the skirt andstitch up the side. Continue around, trapping both arms in the seams andending at the other corner of the skirt.Leave the bottom of the skirt open forstuffing.

The embellished Right Front Skirt lieson top of the Contrast Left Front Skirt. On the sample shown, the selvedgeedge of the linen was used alongthe front vertical edge of the RightFront Skirt piece for added design

interest. If you would like to do this, keep in mind that when you cut outyour fabric, you will align the selvedgeedge with the fold line marked on thepattern piece. For a hemmed finishededge, cut the fabric as shown on thepattern piece.

If your Contrast fabric is sheer (as it ison the sample skirt) you will overlay iton your Main fabric, which will be anunderlining. Cut Left Front Skirt piece

out of your Contrast fabric and cut Left Front Skirt piece out of your Mainfabric. If your Contrast fabric is opaque,no underlining is necessary.

The topstitching on the sample isstitched with a coordinating threadthat is a slightly lighter color than theMain fabric color so that the stitchingis more obvious. If you would like thestitching to blend in, use a matchingthread. With coordinating thread, whether it is lighter or darker, thestitching will be more visible thanmatching thread would be, whichmeans you need to sew carefully tokeep the stitches even and maintaina consistent distance from the seamline or edge.

It is important to use beading threadto sew beads onto garments becausebeading thread is made from strong, smooth 00% continuous-filamentnylon that is specially treated to resistabrasion and tangling. Also, it pullsthrough fabric effortlessly. If you useconventional sewing thread to sewbeads onto fabric, over time the fibersof the thread will be worn thin by thebeads, and the beads have a greaterchance of falling off.

    cut the Fabric

1 Assemble the full-size pattern. Cutthe following pattern pieces, referringto the cutting layout for assistance.Transfer all pattern markings to thewrong side of the fabric except for themarkings for the button and buttonhole, which should be transferred to theright side of the fabric. If it is difficultto discern the wrong side of the fabric, use a piece of tape to mark your wrongsides to keep all the pieces the same.

6 With right sides together, pin theLeft Front Skirt (or assembled LeftFront Skirt) to the Skirt Back, matchingthe notches along the side seams. Sewthe pieces together, stitching from thebottom edge to the waistline. Follow the

same process to sew the Right FrontSkirt to the Skirt Back.

7 Press the side seam allowancestoward the Skirt Back. Topstitch theseam allowances in place, (. cm)from the side seams.

attach the WaiStbaNd+ FiNiSh the heM8 Fuse the Waistband Interfacingpieces to the wrong sides of the

corresponding Waistband Main fabricpieces, following the manufacturersinstructions.

9 With right sides together and rawedges aligned, pin and then sew the

Waistband pieces at the side seams tocreate one continuous piece. Press theseam allowances open.

0 Fold the Waistband in halflengthwise, with wrong sides together, and then press to make a crease on thelong folded edge.

    - Unfold the creased Waistband and, with right sides together and with onelong edge of the Waistband aligned withthe edge of the waistline of the skirt, match the Waistband side seams withthe skirt side seams. Next, match the

center front and center back notches.Pin and then sew the Waistband to theskirt. Trim the seam allowances to (6 mm) and clip the curved edges asnecessary, taking care not to cut intothe stitching.

= To finish the long edge on theopposite side of the waistband, overcast, serge, or zigzag stitch the rawedge. Fold the raw short ends of thewaistband to the wrong side (. cm)to match the vertical edges at the frontof the skirt. Press.

qFold the waistband in half along thecrease to turn the remaining long edge

of the waistband to the inside of theskirt (the waistband is now wrong sidestogether). From the right side of the skirt, pin in place. Make sure the two shortends of the waistband are tucked insidethe waistband. Sew in place on the waistseam line by stitching in the ditch. Byhand, slip-stitch the short ends of thewaistband closed, using matching thread.

w Install your sewing machinesbuttonhole foot (referring to yoursewing machine manual for assistance).

Using the markings you transferredfrom the pattern as your guide, makethe buttonhole on the waistband, withmatching or coordinating thread.Consider making a sample buttonholeon a scrap of your fabric, beforestitching the buttonhole onto yourwaistband. Remove the buttonhole footand reinstall the conventional foot.Put a pin in the bartacked ends of thebuttonhole to prevent cutting throughthose stitches and use a seam ripperor small sharp scissors to carefully cutthe buttonhole open. Using the button

marking as a guide, handsew the buttonin place using matching thread.

e Now its time to sew on the hooksand eyes. With the wrong side ofthe Right Front Skirt facing up, onthe buttonhole end of the waistbandposition one hook ( mm) from thefinished front vertical edge. Make sureit is centered between the long edgesof the waistband, and then sew thehook in place. Insert the button into thebuttonhole.

    To accurately position the corresponding

eye, with the buttoned skirt facing rightside up, press the buttonhole end ofthe waistband down onto the Left Frontwaistband. Position the eye directlyunderneath the hook, centering itbetween the long edges of the waistband(it will be located between the button andthe side seam) and sew the eye in place.

Unbutton the button. With the rightside of the Left Front facing up, positionthe second hook on the waistband ( mm) from the finished front verticaledge. Sew it in place. Button the buttonand hook the first hook and eye that you

stitched in place. Matching the foldededges of the top of the waistband on theRight Front and Left Front, work fromthe button/buttonhole end toward theopposite side, pinning them together.Press the second hook down onto thewaistband underneath and position thesecond eye directly under the secondhook. Sew the eye in place and removethe pins.
