lowing the 1925 canonization of St. Thérèse. The Basilica

is under the direction of the Discalced Carmelite friars of

the Province of St. Thérèse, and it stands today as a monu-

ment to the great faith of the devotees of St. Thérèse.

What does the Parish Donations report consist of? The weekly parish donation report shows the combined amount of the first collection, church maintenance fund from envelopes, loose checks and cash, and online giving. To learn more about register-ing for the parish to receive offering envelopes or start online giving, visit the Basilica’s website!

Why give on a weekly basis? Weekly donations help to offset the cost of operations and maintenance of the church. Some individuals and families give on a weekly basis, some on a monthly, and a few annually. How you give and how much you give is entirely up to you!

The Basilica currently has about 300 individuals and families who donate on a regular basis, of 977 registered individuals and families, raising around $5,000 per week. If each individual or family were to contribute in any amount or increase their offering by any amount, we would see a decrease in the weekly deficit for operating the parish and maintaining the Basilica.

Second Collection July 28: Church Maintenance Fund The Church Maintenance Fund provides for the reg-ular maintenance and house keeping of the Basilica. It includes repairs and maintenance of equipment, furniture, sound system, music equipment, lighting, and grounds keeping.

Aug. 4: St. Vincent de Paul Society* The St. Vincent de Paul Society assists the Little Flower community. It serves an average of 70 fami-lies in the community per month by providing assis-tance with utilities, rental, prescription payments, and food while sharing with them the love of Christ. *Not all second collections go towards parish opera-tions, second collections such as these are not includ-ed in the Parish Donation report. Consider making an extra donation the Church Maintenance Fund or in-creasing your Sunday offering to help the parish!

Spiritual Talk: St. Elizabeth of the Trinity and

Carmelite Spirituality The local chapter of the Discalced Carmelite Secular Order (OCDS) of the Province of St. Thérèse is continuing this year its series of talks to share the charism of prayer. “The OCDS is an essential part of the Province,” said Fr. Stephen Sanchez, OCD, Provincial Superior of the province of St. Thérèse. “They have an important mission: to share our vocation wherever they are. They bring new life to our Order.”

Who is St. Elizabeth of the Trinity? Elizabeth Catez was born on July 18, 1880 to Capt. Joseph and Marie Catez in Avors, France. At eight years of age, Elizabeth began musical

training at the Conservatory of Dijon and manifested a remarkable talent at the piano, eventually mastering works by such composers as Liszt, Chopin and the other romantic composers of her age. In that same year, she first expressed a desire to become a religious. After her 21st birthday, Elizabeth entered her longed-for Carmel. She received the name Sr. Elizabeth of the Trinity. The sisters recognized at once her profound and genuine spirit of prayer. They also noted her eagerness to be of service and her warm, gracious per-sonality. "Each sister felt herself to be the most loved," witnessed one of her community members. "In giving one time, she gave a thousand times," declared another, trying to express the supernatural love that the sisters sensed in Elizabeth’s actions in community. During her years in Carmel, Elizabeth became a true disciple of St. Paul, drinking deeply from his inspired letters and calling him the "father of her soul." She was drawn especially to Galatians 2:20: Yet I live, no longer I, but Christ lives in me; insofar as I now live in the flesh, I live by faith in the Son of God who has loved me and given himself up for me.

Registration for the 2019-2020 school year ends Aug. 23.

All families with who are registered as parishioners of the Basilica of the Little Flower may enroll their child(ren) or themselves for Religious Education. (If you are not a registered parishioner and would like to become a member of the parish, you may register by visiting the administration office or on the Basilica’s web-site.)

Please bring copies of birth certificate (if child/adult has not been baptized) and Sacramental certificate copies for Baptism & First Communion at the time of registration.

Registration Fees

− Elementary-Middle school: $40 one student and $45 two or more students

− High school: $60 one student and $65 two or more students

− RCIA for children: $20 per student

− RCIA: $20 per student

Hours of Registration Tuesday & Wednesday 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Thursday 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Sunday 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

Weekday registrations will take place at the Basilica administration office, 824 Kentucky Ave. Sunday regis-trations will take place at Little Flower School entrance on July 21, Aug. 11, and Aug. 18.

Volunteers wanted! The Faith Formation program hopes to grow the parish’s desire to encounter Christ in a profound way at home and in school! Volunteers help with the Faith Formation’s committee, assisting with teaching, or teaching a class. Volunteers may be high school students or adults in need of community service hours or those who wish are seeking a ministry in helping to build the faith of the parish. Volunteers must be 15 years or older. Those interested in teaching a class (being a Catechist) are required to take a course provided by the Archdiocese of San Antonio to ensure that they understand the Catholic faith and how to teach it to different age groups.

This week’s highlight: Eucharistic Ministers and

Lectors Ministers express their love for the Word of God in Scrip-ture. Lectors proclaim the Word of God in such a way that it touches the hearts of the assembly. Lectors are commissioned by the pastor to reflect on the Word of God and uniquely address our assembly. Eucharistic ministers assist the priest in administering the sacraments of the Eucharist, the consecrat-ed bread and wine.
