Ministry gathers us and makes us a faith family... Seventeenth Sunday in Ordinary Time ~ “The law of Your mouth is to me more precious than

thousands of gold and silver pieces,” says the psalmist today. Does the amount of my offering suggest that I could honestly say the same?

LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER ~ For those who are ill, and those in need of our prayers …

Dear Parishioners, We continue on with the 13th chapter of St. Matthew’s Gospel and with another beautiful set of par-ables about what the Kingdom of Heaven is like. This time, Jesus likens it to a great treasure or a pearl of great price. In other words, the Kingdom of Heaven ought to be of such value that we are willing to part with everything in order to possess it. So we ought to ask ourselves: Just how important is God’s Kingdom to us? How do we show that we hold the Kingdom of God as our highest value? Please continue to pray for a peaceful solution to the problems in the Holy Land. I will be on a few week’s vacation after this Sunday. Make sure you stay on your best behavior!

Blessings to you all! Devotedly Yours in Christ,

Father Gabe

Living Faith for Kids…

The Kingdom of Heaven is like a net thrown into the sea, which collects fish of every kind.

Matthew 13:47 We don’t know for sure what Heaven will be like. We have never met anyone who has been there to tell us what it is like. But we have the words of Jesus, who gives us some idea of God’s home. It will be a great mix of people from all walks of life, from every coun-try, big cities and small towns, and tiny farms. Jesus uses the example of “fish of every kind.” He means people of every shape and color will live in God’s house because God’s house is open to all people, including children. If we follow Jesus, we will get to see exactly what Heaven is like.

Lord Jesus, help me get to Heaven.

1 Kings 5:5, 7-12 Psalm 119:57, 72, 76-77, 127-130

Romans 8:28030 Matthew 13:44-52

Reflections on Today’s Readings: LITURGY OF THE WORD: In the Gospel, Jesus en-courages us to sell everything in order to receive the gift of the Kingdom. Saint Paul shows us in the second reading that the King-dom is our relationship with Jesus, whereby we are conformed to his image and made chil-dren of God. In our first reading, Solomon shows us the disposition necessary for receiving the Kingdom.

FOCUS: Our hope rests in the Good News of Jesus Christ, and today we are invited to renew our “Yes” to Jesus. The Good News of Jesus Christ has a way of tug-ging at our hearts. Our hope, as children of God, of receiving the Kingdom calls us forward, but, at the same time, we are also pulled away from the Gospel and towards the idols of this life. Today we are invited to stake everything on Jesus and to say, “Yes” to his Kingdom again.

Please join us weekly on Monday mornings after the 8am Mass for the Miraculous Medal Novena, Rosary and Benediction.

Get Involved in Parish Safety Programs Parents and guardians play a key role in the success of parish programs for young people. Parents and guardians who are involved in par-ish programs and events will be in the best po-sition to protect their own children as well as all the children in the parish community. Involve-ment and communication are important fac-tors in helping to ensure safe environments for all of our children. Contact the parish office for more information on how you can become actively involved in the safe environment train-ing programs in our parish.

Fact of Life: Open Your Hearts to Life “Open your hearts to life!” has been a major theme of Pope Francis and one that has par-ticular urgency today, as the “culture of death” is gaining an ever wider foothold. Some may think the phrase “culture of death” is too grim or too exaggerated because, on the surface at least, ours looks like a culture of fun and pleas-ure. Most Americans are living comfortably. We live in a culture dedicated to maximizing pleas-ure and minimizing pain or inconvenience. Opening our hearts to life means that we reject the killing of human beings from the mo-ment of conception to their natural death-by abortifacient “contraceptives” and abortion, in destructive embryonic research and IVF proce-dures, by denying the life-saving treatment to those with disabilities, and by “hastening death” of the elderly and dying in assisted suicide and euthanasia Opening our hearts to life means opposing the death penalty, as well as slavery, human trafficking, terrorism. Through prayer and through the celebration of the Mass and the sacraments, we can know and love God better. With His help, we can open our hearts to all human life.” Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities, USCCB 2014
