2008 Our 7th Great Year“We are proud to be a partner of Give Kids A Smile and

wholeheartedly support their goals. We hope you will support them, too.”

Rolf G. Behrents, DDS, MS, PhDExecutive Director, The Center for Advanced Dental Education

“With the absence of a dental school in St. Louis, GKAS provides a venue for children of low income households to get out of pain and receive quality dental care from professionals who truly care about the child’s well being. I whole heartedly support the continuation of the Give Kids A Smile Program.

Craig C. Hollander, DDS, MS, Diplomate American Board of Pediatric Dentistry

“I am a nurse at Barretts Elementary School and have attended GKAS clinics since 2003. GKAS has truly benefited many children at Barrets Elementary. I am always having kids ask me when can I take them back to the dentist.”

Becky Cartmill, RN, BSN

2008 Our 7th Great YearFrom the President’s Desk

2008 has been a wonderful year for Give Kids A Smile. Since our humble beginnings to the present, we have been able to make an impact on the St. Louis region providing children with access to comprehensive dental care and supporting services. The children who have been able to take part in our Biannual Clinic Events at St. Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education have not only received professional services, but have had their lives enriched and elevated by volunteers who truly care for the emotional well being of the children that we serve. Many children have had their dental care completed in private offices willing to open their doors and serve the children of need through our Smile Factories Program. All this is done free-of-charge to the children. We are thankful to all our professional and non-professional volunteers who give from the heart and devote enumerable hours of time in the service of children. It is only through wonderful dedicated volunteers that Give Kids A Smile has been able to have a great 2008! Our focus continues to be the child with access problems to dental and health care services. It has been our seventh great year and we pray for continued success.

B. Ray Storm, DDSPresident, GKAS

2008 Our 7th Great Year New Beginnings Stationary Clinic: 2009 GoalThe officers and board of directors of Give Kids A Smile are

committed to establishing a free dental clinic for children during 2009. After 7 years of treating children in the Biannual Clinic Event, Smile Factories, and Tiny Smiles, it is now apparent that the need for dental services for the underserved children of the St. Louis region is so great that stationary clinics will be a necessity to effectively address the access problem. GKAS envisions five clinics strategically placed as the ultimate goal during the next ten years with the first such clinic opening the doors for children in 2010. 2009 will be the year to acquire the funding and begin the construction, staffing, equipping, and creating the education systems for quality dental and educational services for children. The following is a financial budget for the first of many dental clinics for the children of our area.
