SEUSSICAL, JR. Dear Parents and Guardians, Lamar Middle School is delighted to announce this year’s School-Wide musical. This program provides LMS students who are interested in performing or in the technical aspects of theatre with an opportunity to work on the production of a live musical theatre performance, in the fantastic AISD Performing Arts Center. This spring, Lamar Middle School Theatre, Choir and Dance will present the musical “Seussical , Jr .” at the AISD PAC. The musical will be performed on Wednesday January 18th and Thursday January 19th at 7:00pm. AUDITIONS/CREW SIGN-UP The auditions and crew sign-up sheet will be posted on the bulletin board outside of the Choir room from Thursday September 8th until Monday September 19th. Auditions will take place on Tuesday September 20th and Wednesday September 21st from 4pm – 6pm. Each student auditioning needs to sign up for ONLY 1 DAY and needs to plan to stay the entire time. Please check your calendar and make sure you sign up for the day in which you have no conflicts. For information about what to prepare for the auditions, please see the “Seussical Jr.” link on the Lamar Choir website (www.lamarchoir.com). Also, please dress for your audition comfortably, in clothes and appropriate footwear in which you are able to freely move and dance. Callbacks for Seussical Jr will be held in the choir room on Thursday, September 22 from 4-6pm. A list of actors required at callbacks will be posted on the choir website Wednesday evening, following Wednesday afternoon’s final first round of auditions. The Cast List will be posted Friday September 23rd in the LMS Courtyard. Scripts will be available at the required Full Cast read-through on Monday September 26th. We intend to cast between 40-50 actors in Seussical Jr. Depending on how many audition and what our needs are — cuts will likely be necessary. REHEARSALS All rehearsals will take place at LMS except for the final two dress rehearsals, which will be at the PAC. Page 3 of the attached application lists all of the rehearsal dates. Rehearsals will be Monday through Thursdays. If you are cast, you may not be asked to come to all rehearsals, but we need to know which rehearsals you cannot attend. Please be specific and give dates and times of conflicts that CANNOT be rescheduled or missed. NOTE: The month of January is all Tech rehearsals. It is expected that all cast members and crew will clear their schedules for these dates and times. The only acceptable conflicts on these nights are those that the directors are told about on your audition forms. PARTICIPATION FEES As with all LMS productions, there is NO participation fee. A suggested $40 donation is used to help with the cost of purchasing tshirts/costumes/snacks/waters/cast party food, etc. for each cast member.

EXPECTATIONS

1. During rehearsals and performances, all students are expected to comply with, and will be bound by, the terms of the LMS Student Handbook.

2. Students are expected to be on time and prepared to work. 3. Students are expected to have their script and a pencil at every rehearsal and take notes on

blocking, choreography, music, etc. 4. If a student misses a rehearsal, he/she is expected to get missed notes, blocking, choreography, etc.

from their understudy, another cast member or stage manager. 5. If a student has a break during the rehearsal and is not required onstage, the student must be sitting

in the auditorium doing homework, memorizing lines, etc. They must not be disruptive to those rehearsing.

6. Students may not use their cell phones while they are rehearsing. Students may use their cell phones while they are not rehearsing, provided that they do not talk on their phones while inside the auditorium. They must also be aware of when they are needed back on stage.

7. We must respect each other. Civility to all is required of all participants. REMOVAL FROM THE SHOW A student participant may be removed from the show for any of the following reasons:

1. Continued failure to stop disruptive behavior. 2. A violation of the school’s policies with regards to drugs, alcohol and/or violence. 3. Endangering another participant or a professional. 4. Unscheduled absence from more than two (2) rehearsals for which he/she is scheduled, in the

absence of illness or a family emergency (to be considered on a case-by-case basis). The spring musical is a time-honored tradition at LMS, and Seussical, Jr. is a funny, whimsical, heart-warming story set to great music. We think this is going to be a great show. We hope you will join us! LMS Theatre, Choir, and Dance
