Welcome, ladies, gentlemen, boys and girls to our production “Seussical” based on the books by Dr. Seuss. Showstoppers as a club still remains strong with the support of the Lochaber community, who join us on stage, come together to form a superb orchestra, help with all production requirements and, just as important, come along and support our shows. We are very appreciative of our volunteers and to those who travel from as far as Glasgow in the south and Inverness in the north.

I would also like to mention and thank local businesses for their support and sponsorship.

Our Production Team and Committee have worked very hard over the past six months, especially this week, in bringing this show to you, as have the cast in equal measure.

Tonight’s production boasts a cast of thirty one performers on stage, however we would like to encourage anyone who can act, dance, sing and wishes to tread the boards (especially of the male species) to come and join us.

It’s been a great few months seeing the show coming together, so sit back and enjoy “Seussical”.

Welcome to Lochaber Showstoppers production of “Seussical”. The stories of Dr Seuss are some of the most heart-warming, profound books ever written. The word play, delightful rhymes and endless imagination of these stories have put smiles on our faces and songs in our hearts for generations. We live in a complicated, busy world with complicated problems. Dr Seuss reminds us to slow down, see those around us, to reach out and offer a hand to those in need. It is a message we can all take to heart and come together to help make our world a more peaceful and happier place.

The score emerges as a “Seussian” assortment of musical styles, ranging from Latin to Pop, Swing to Gospel and R&B to Funk – something for everyone!

Finally can I just say it has been an honour and a privilege to direct this production. The cast and orchestra (as always) have shown tremendous talent and I thank you sincerely for your enthusiasm and commitment. Thank you never seems enough… you are all “amayzing”. However we couldn’t have put on the show without all the help behind the scenes – hours of work and dedication from a lot of lovely, crazy people! We had a laugh didn’t we!

Sadly this is my last production with Showstoppers as Donnie and I are moving to pastures new, but can I say, never in my wildest dreams from my humble beginnings as glockenspiel player in Carousel in 1999, did I envisage where I am now! I thank you all from the bottom of my heart for believing in me and giving me the opportunity to realize “the dream” – just goes to show……”Anything’s Possible”!

After all those years being stuck on a page, did you ever imagine you’d see me on stage? Now I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue! No, there’s no telling what, but I’ll give you a clue… “ So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza, bringing to life the Dr. Seuss characters, Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Mayzie La Bird, and a little boy with a big imagination - Jojo. The colourful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many ""thinks."" Horton faces a double challenge - not only must he protect the Whos from a world of opposers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant!
