Knowing Setu ATA2S

Overview of Setu ATA2S

ATA2S is a VoIP Analog Telephone Adapter that allows you to make and receive voice calls over IP Networkusing conventional telephone instrument.

ATA2S uses SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol to make voice calls over the IP network. ATA2S convertsthe voice traffic into data packets for transmission over the internet. When a telephone number is dialed by you,

ATA2S converts it into an IP call using the Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) and initiates a call, thereby makingVoIP calls as easy as normal telephone call.

ATA2S is used in Residence, Small Offices, Home Offices, Corporate Offices, Industries, Workshops, etc. ATA2S can be used to make voice calls between two or more remotely located branch offices of an enterprise

using Internet network.

ATA2S has 1 WAN port, 2 FXS ports, a Power Socket and 5 LEDs.

Using Setu ATA2S

Making Calls

Setu ATA2S is ready for making calls as soon as the initial configuration is done.

Making calls by dialing a number

Go OFF-Hook J Dial the number J Talk

Making calls using ATA2S is as easy as making a normal telephone call provided the entire necessaryconfiguration is done.

If you have configured both SIP1 and SIP2 Accounts then by default, the calls made from FXS1 will be routed

through SIP1 and the calls made from FXS2 will be routed through SIP2.

If you have configured only SIP Account1, you will be able to make calls from FXS2 only when you change thedefault settings. Similarly, if you have configured only SIP Account2, you will be able to make calls from FXS1only when you change the default settings.

The default settings can be changed by making necessary changes in "FXS Port" link in the WebJeeves. For more details, refer topic “FXS Ports” in Configuring Setu ATA2S.

Outgoing calls can also be made using Phone Book, Dial Plan and Peer to Peer table.

Making Calls using Phone Book (Speed Dial)

Go OFF-Hook J Dial #8-Index Number J Talk

Phone book is the database used for storing SIP number along with the name of the person or place where youcall frequently. A SIP Account is also to be selected for each number stored in the Phone Book.

A call to a particular number will be made using the corresponding SIP Account selected for it. Dialing number using phone book is also called Speed Dialing.

To make a call using Phone Book, you just have to dial a speed dial access code i.e. #8 followed by the Indexnumber of the stored number that is to be dialed.

For more details on configuration of Phone book, please refer sub- topic “Phone Book” under ‘Call Features’topic.

Making Calls using Dial Plan

Go OFF-Hook J Dial number stored in Dial Plan J Talk

Dial Plan is used to make calls using the selective SIP Account assigned to a particular number. Whenever anumber is dialed, ATA will check the Dial Plan and if that particular number is found then it will dial the number using the corresponding SIP Account assigned to that number. To use dial plan, you have to select Dial Planoption in 'Outgoing Calls' parameter on FXS port page.

Refer topic “FXS Ports” in Configuring Setu ATA2S for more details.

Disconnect Signaling on FXS port

In general, ATA kind of products is mostly connected with PCO machines or with FXO port of PBX. Now whencalled party disconnects or goes on-hook, PCO machine or PBX is to be informed that the call is disconnected. In absence of 'Disconnect Signaling' the call is considered as complete when the caller goes on-hook. But thismay result in inaccurate billing in case of PCO machine or in case of PBX even though the call is disconnected itis considered as mature by the PBX. To avoid such problems the system supports 'Disconnect Signaling'feature.

It is a signal which will be generated on FXS port, which indicates that the other party to the call hasdisconnected. This will result in accurate billing in PCO machines. For Disconnect Signaling on FXS port, one of the following options is to be selected.

• None: This option is used when no disconnect signaling is to be generated on the FXS port.• Polarity Reversal: This option is used when disconnect signaling is to be generated in the form of

Polarity Reversal on the FXS port. In Polarity Reversal, battery polarity of FXS port is reversed. For example, suppose the battery polarity of the FXS port is negative for TIP and positive for RING inspeech condition. After call disconnection, TIP will become positive and RING will become negative.

When FXS port goes on-hook, idle state polarity is restored.• Open Loop Disconnect: This option is used when call disconnection is to be signaled in the form of

Open Loop Disconnect pulse. In Open Loop Disconnect, the battery voltage on FXS port is removed for Open Loop Disconnect timer and then it is restored again after the FXS port goes on-hook. Range of Open Loop Disconnect timer is 001 to 999ms. By default, it is 500ms.By default, Polarity Reversal is selected.

When call is disconnected, the user will get error tone.

Flash Timer

Flash timer signifies the time period for which the loop current breaks. ATA2S uses this event for variousfeatures viz Call Hold, Call Transfer etc. Flash timer is programmable. It ranges from 100 ms to 900 ms. Bydefault the value of flash timer is 600 ms.

Echo Cancellation

Echo Cancellation is a technique that allows isolation and filtering of unwanted signals caused by echoes.Sometimes an echo is produced while talking on phone due to which it becomes difficult to hear and understandthe speech of the opposite party. Echo canceller is the device that put a signal on the return transmission path,

which is equal and opposite of the echo signal. Echo cancellers are used depending on the length of the echo tobe compensated and the distance between gateway and the line hybrid. ATA2S has inbuilt echo cancellationfeature.

• Enable: Disable Echo Cancellation, if you do not want to use this feature. By default, it is enable.

• Tail Length: Select tail length depending on the length of the echo to be compensated. Valid range of tail length is (8, 16, 32) msec. By default, it is 32 msec.

Forward Error Correction

Forward Error Correction is a system of error control for data transmission whereby ATA2S adds redundant datato its messages, which allows the receiver to detect and correct errors without asking the sender for additional

data. By default "Forward Error Correction" is disable. Enable this feature to reduce error and for improved voicequality.

Voice Activity Detection

Voice Activity Detection (VAD) is a software application which allows data network carrying voice traffic over theinternet to detect the absence of audio and conserve bandwidth by preventing the transmission of 'SilentPackets' over the network. VAD (also called 'Silence Suppression') should be enabled to monitor signals for voice activity so that when silence is detected for specified amount of time, the application informs the packetvoice protocol and prevents the encoder output from being transported across the network. By default Voice

Activity Detection is disable.

Number Dialing Timer

• First Digit Wait Timer: First digit wait timer signifies the time for which the system waits for the user todial a digit after the phone goes OFF-Hook. On expiry of this timer, the system will give error tone to theuser. Fist Digit Wait Timer in ATA2S is set to 7 seconds. It is fixed and cannot be changed by the user.

• Inter Digit Wait Timer: Inter Digit Wait Timer signifies the time period between dialing of twoconsecutive digits. All the digits should be dialed at a stretch within Inter Digit Wait Timer period. If theuser does not dial the next digit before this inter digit wait timer expires then ATA2S will stop collectingfurther digits and will process the digits dialed so far. The range of Inter Digit Wait Timer is 1 to 9seconds. By default, it is 4 seconds.

Call Waiting

Call waiting is the feature that alerts you of an incoming call when you are in speech with the current call. Bydefault "Call Waiting" is enable.

Refer “Call Waiting” feature in "Managing Calls" for more details.

Outgoing Calls

For outgoing calls made from FXS port, select the SIP Account from where you want to route the outgoing call.Following selection can be made:

• None - If 'None' is selected, no outgoing calls can be made from this FXS port.

• SIP Account1 - If 'SIP Account1' is selected, all outgoing calls will be made using SIP Account1.

• SIP Account2 - If 'SIP Account2' is selected, all outgoing calls will be made using SIP Account2.

• Dial Plan - If 'Dial Plan' is selected, all outgoing calls will be routed as per the entries made in Dial Plan. Please refer “Dial Plan” for more details.

By default, outgoing calls made from FXS1 will be routed through SIP Account1 and calls made fromFXS2 will be routed through SIP Account2.

Peer to Peer

Select 'Yes' if you want to use FXS port for making peer to peer calls. If flag is set to 'Yes', all the dialed numberswill be checked in peer to peer table and if any best match entry found, call will be made as per the destinationaddress found for the programmed entry. Else, call will be routed as per the option set for 'Outgoing Calls'.By default, Peer to Peer flag is set to 'No'.

Time Settings

Time has to be configured for ATA2S based on the country in which it is to be installed. ATA2S uses SimpleNetwork Time Protocol (SNTP) to configure the time. This protocol ensures accurate local time-keeping withreference to radio and atomic clocks located on the Internet. ATA gets synchronized with the global server andreveal the date and time. This time is called Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

Based on the time zone settings as per your country, ATA2S shows correct date and time for that country. E.g. if GMT provided by time server is 14April2008 05:14:50 AM, current time shown for India will be 14 April 200810:44:50AM whereas the current time shown for Kabul will be 14 April 2008 09:44.50Am. Because, for IndiaGMT is '+05:30' but for Kabul it is '+04:30'.

Auto Configuration

'Auto Configuration' feature of ATA2S enables the user to configure ATA from a central location. It is necessaryto configure certain parameters of ATA2S before using it. User may face technical difficulties at the time of configuring ATA manually so it is desirable to configure it from a central location by ITSP as all ATA usersgenerally take ITSP's connection to make calls. Using this feature ITSP shall be able to configure ATAautomatically from a central location whenever required.

How it Works? ATA2S makes use of TFTP server to download the configuration files. User has to enter the Server Addressprovided by ITSP and specify the Configuration Folder Path provided by ITSP in the Web page for 'AutoConfiguration'.

Three options are provided for Auto Configuration:

• At Next Power ON - Select this option when you want to configure the ATA automatically only duringnext power ON.

• At Power ON - Select this option when you want to configure the ATA automatically each time it getspower ON.

• Never - Select this option when you do not want to configure the ATA automatically.

ATA2S provides provision to program the TFTP server address manually or program the address provided byDHCP server. If you are using DHCP server in your LAN and DHCP server provides the TFTP server address,do not configure the TFTP server address manually. Else, program the TFTP server address manually.

During power ON, if Auto Configuration is enabled but ATA does not get TFTP server address either from DHCPserver OR programmed manually, the auto-configuration process is aborted and then the default configurationfiles or the current ones are used by the ATA. During Auto Configuration process, ATA shall send the desiredconfiguration file request to TFTP server and searches for the files in the configured folder by the name 'ATAMAC Address', where 'ATA MAC Address' is the MAC address assigned to the ATA WAN port. Hence, it shouldbe taken care that files stored in the TFTP server should be name as the MAC Address of ATA's which need toget configured automatically. While sending desired configuration files request to the TFTP server, if requiredfiles are not available in the TFTP server, then there will be incomplete file download to the ATA. Also only thosedownloaded files whose version will match to the version of ATA will be updated.

When Auto-Configuration is complete, the 'Status' page displays following information:• No TFTP Server found" or • Auto-Configuration Partial" or • Auto-Configuration Fail" or • Auto-Configuration Success"

'No TFTP Server Found' is displayed when you have programmed the Auto Configuration flag to 'At Next Power ON' or 'At Power ON', but ATA does not get TFTP server address.

'Auto-Configuration Partial' is displayed when incomplete/partial files are downloaded from TFTP server.

'Auto-Configuration Fail' is displayed when ATA send the configuration files request to TFTP server but no filesare downloaded to ATA.

'Auto-Configuration Success' is displayed when all the desired configuration files are downloaded to ATA.

In 'Statistics' field of 'Status' page, message will be displayed regarding how many files are downloaded

successfully out of total configuration files supported by ATA as X/Y, where X is the number of files downloadedsuccessfully and Y is the total number of files supported by ATA.

Timer is provided in ATA2S to restart Auto-Configuration periodically so that Admin does not need to restart the ATA manually. Restarting ATA periodically is required since auto configuration request to TFTP server is madeonly at the time of power ON. Enable the timer and program the desired timer. Timer shall be configured in HH:MM. Doing so, ATA shall restart everyday on the timer configured. If timer is enabled, ATA shall restart on theconfigured time only if both the FXS ports viz FXS1 and FXS2 are idle.

To configure Auto-Configuration parameter, click on 'Auto Configuration' link on Web page and configure thefollowing parameters:

Auto Configuration Values/ Default Description

Software Upgrade

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard Internet Protocol that is used to exchange files between computers onthe IP network. ATA2S supports an embedded FTP server which can be used for Uploading and Downloading

System files. FTP server of ATA stores all currently used configuration files, drivers, firmware, and html files.FTP server of ATA can be used to make desired configuration files. Feature is required by ITSP's during AutoConfiguration.

Refer “Auto Configuration” for more details.

FTP server can also be used to take the backup of currently used configuration files which can be restore later as per the requirement. e.g., When ATA gets defaulted inadvertently, backup files can be used to restored thesystem configuration.

Procedure to Upgrade File

To upgrade any 'file' of the ATA2S, click on 'S/W Upgrade' link. Following four folders will be displayed:• appli• config• driver • httpd

'Appli' folder includes the current firmware/software used by ATA. 'Config' folder includes the currentconfiguration files of ATA. 'Driver' folder includes the current drivers used by ATA. 'Httpd' folder includes the htmlfiles. To upgrade the desired folder viz 'Appli', 'Config', 'Driver' and 'Httpd', copy the folder stored in your computer and paste here. E.g., to upgrade ATA for new software/firmware, copy the 'Appli' folder stored in your computer and paste here. Similarly, other folders can be upgraded. New software/firmware, configuration etc

shall take effect only during next power ON. Please note that pop-up of web client should be enabled while usingthe feature.

GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE

Version 2, June 1991

Copyright (C) 1989, 1991 Free Software Foundation, Inc.,51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USAEveryone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copiesof this license document, but changing it is not allowed.

Preamble

The licenses for most software are designed to take away yourfreedom to share and change it. By contrast, the GNU General PublicLicense is intended to guarantee your freedom to share and change freesoftware--to make sure the software is free for all its users. ThisGeneral Public License applies to most of the Free SoftwareFoundation's software and to any other program whose authors commit tousing it. (Some other Free Software Foundation software is covered bythe GNU Lesser General Public License instead.) You can apply it toyour programs, too.

When we speak of free software, we are referring to freedom, notprice. Our General Public Licenses are designed to make sure that youhave the freedom to distribute copies of free software (and charge forthis service if you wish), that you receive source code or can get it

if you want it, that you can change the software or use pieces of itin new free programs; and that you know you can do these things.

To protect your rights, we need to make restrictions that forbidanyone to deny you these rights or to ask you to surrender the rights. These restrictions translate to certain responsibilities for you if youdistribute copies of the software, or if you modify it.

For example, if you distribute copies of such a program, whethergratis or for a fee, you must give the recipients all the rights thatyou have. You must make sure that they, too, receive or can get thesource code. And you must show them these terms so they know theirrights.

Page 91: Setu Ata2s v3 System Manual

7/27/2019 Setu Ata2s v3 System Manual

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/setu-ata2s-v3-system-manual 91/100

Matrix Setu ATA2S V3 System Manual 91

We protect your rights with two steps: (1) copyright the software, and(2) offer you this license which gives you legal permission to copy, distribute and/or modify the software.

Also, for each author's protection and ours, we want to make certainthat everyone understands that there is no warranty for this freesoftware. If the software is modified by someone else and passed on, wewant its recipients to know that what they have is not the original, sothat any problems introduced by others will not reflect on the originalauthors' reputations.

Finally, any free program is threatened constantly by softwarepatents. We wish to avoid the danger that redistributors of a freeprogram will individually obtain patent licenses, in effect making theprogram proprietary. To prevent this, we have made it clear that anypatent must be licensed for everyone's free use or not licensed at all.

The precise terms and conditions for copying, distribution andmodification follow.

GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSETERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR COPYING, DISTRIBUTION AND MODIFICATION

0. This License applies to any program or other work which containsa notice placed by the copyright holder saying it may be distributedunder the terms of this General Public License. The "Program", below, refers to any such program or work, and a "work based on the Program"means either the Program or any derivative work under copyright law:that is to say, a work containing the Program or a portion of it,either verbatim or with modifications and/or translated into anotherlanguage. (Hereinafter, translation is included without limitation inthe term "modification".) Each licensee is addressed as "you".

Activities other than copying, distribution and modification are notcovered by this License; they are outside its scope. The act ofrunning the Program is not restricted, and the output from the Programis covered only if its contents constitute a work based on theProgram (independent of having been made by running the Program).Whether that is true depends on what the Program does.

1. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Program'ssource code as you receive it, in any medium, provided that youconspicuously and appropriately publish on each copy an appropriatecopyright notice and disclaimer of warranty; keep intact all thenotices that refer to this License and to the absence of any warranty;and give any other recipients of the Program a copy of this Licensealong with the Program.

You may charge a fee for the physical act of transferring a copy, andyou may at your option offer warranty protection in exchange for a fee.

2. You may modify your copy or copies of the Program or any portionof it, thus forming a work based on the Program, and copy and

Page 92: Setu Ata2s v3 System Manual

92 Matrix Setu ATA2S V3 System Manual

distribute such modifications or work under the terms of Section 1above, provided that you also meet all of these conditions:

a) You must cause the modified files to carry prominent noticesstating that you changed the files and the date of any change.

b) You must cause any work that you distribute or publish, that inwhole or in part contains or is derived from the Program or anypart thereof, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all thirdparties under the terms of this License.

c) If the modified program normally reads commands interactivelywhen run, you must cause it, when started running for suchinteractive use in the most ordinary way, to print or display anannouncement including an appropriate copyright notice and anotice that there is no warranty (or else, saying that you providea warranty) and that users may redistribute the program under

these conditions, and telling the user how to view a copy of thisLicense. (Exception: if the Program itself is interactive butdoes not normally print such an announcement, your work based onthe Program is not required to print an announcement.)

These requirements apply to the modified work as a whole. Ifidentifiable sections of that work are not derived from the Program, and can be reasonably considered independent and separate works inthemselves, then this License, and its terms, do not apply to thosesections when you distribute them as separate works. But when youdistribute the same sections as part of a whole which is a work basedon the Program, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms ofthis License, whose permissions for other licensees extend to theentire whole, and thus to each and every part regardless of who wrote it.

Thus, it is not the intent of this section to claim rights or contestyour rights to work written entirely by you; rather, the intent is toexercise the right to control the distribution of derivative orcollective works based on the Program.

In addition, mere aggregation of another work not based on the Programwith the Program (or with a work based on the Program) on a volume ofa storage or distribution medium does not bring the other work under

the scope of this License.

3. You may copy and distribute the Program (or a work based on it,under Section 2) in object code or executable form under the terms ofSections 1 and 2 above provided that you also do one of the following:

a) Accompany it with the complete corresponding machine-readablesource code, which must be distributed under the terms of Sections1 and 2 above on a medium customarily used for software interchange; or,

b) Accompany it with a written offer, valid for at least three

years, to give any third party, for a charge no more than yourcost of physically performing source distribution, a complete

Page 93: Setu Ata2s v3 System Manual

machine-readable copy of the corresponding source code, to bedistributed under the terms of Sections 1 and 2 above on a mediumcustomarily used for software interchange; or,

c) Accompany it with the information you received as to the offerto distribute corresponding source code. (This alternative isallowed only for noncommercial distribution and only if youreceived the program in object code or executable form with suchan offer, in accord with Subsection b above.)

The source code for a work means the preferred form of the work formaking modifications to it. For an executable work, complete sourcecode means all the source code for all modules it contains, plus anyassociated interface definition files, plus the scripts used tocontrol compilation and installation of the executable. However, as aspecial exception, the source code distributed need not includeanything that is normally distributed (in either source or binary

form) with the major components (compiler, kernel, and so on) of theoperating system on which the executable runs, unless that componentitself accompanies the executable.

If distribution of executable or object code is made by offeringaccess to copy from a designated place, then offering equivalentaccess to copy the source code from the same place counts asdistribution of the source code, even though third parties are notcompelled to copy the source along with the object code.

4. You may not copy, modify, sublicense, or distribute the Programexcept as expressly provided under this License. Any attemptotherwise to copy, modify, sublicense or distribute the Program isvoid, and will automatically terminate your rights under this License. However, parties who have received copies, or rights, from you underthis License will not have their licenses terminated so long as suchparties remain in full compliance.

5. You are not required to accept this License, since you have notsigned it. However, nothing else grants you permission to modify ordistribute the Program or its derivative works. These actions areprohibited by law if you do not accept this License. Therefore, bymodifying or distributing the Program (or any work based on the

Program), you indicate your acceptance of this License to do so, andall its terms and conditions for copying, distributing or modifyingthe Program or works based on it.

6. Each time you redistribute the Program (or any work based on theProgram), the recipient automatically receives a license from theoriginal licensor to copy, distribute or modify the Program subject tothese terms and conditions. You may not impose any furtherrestrictions on the recipients' exercise of the rights granted herein. You are not responsible for enforcing compliance by third parties tothis License.

7. If, as a consequence of a court judgment or allegation of patent

Page 94: Setu Ata2s v3 System Manual

infringement or for any other reason (not limited to patent issues),conditions are imposed on you (whether by court order, agreement orotherwise) that contradict the conditions of this License, they do notexcuse you from the conditions of this License. If you cannotdistribute so as to satisfy simultaneously your obligations under thisLicense and any other pertinent obligations, then as a consequence youmay not distribute the Program at all. For example, if a patentlicense would not permit royalty-free redistribution of the Program byall those who receive copies directly or indirectly through you, thenthe only way you could satisfy both it and this License would be torefrain entirely from distribution of the Program.

If any portion of this section is held invalid or unenforceable underany particular circumstance, the balance of the section is intended toapply and the section as a whole is intended to apply in othercircumstances.

It is not the purpose of this section to induce you to infringe anypatents or other property right claims or to contest validity of anysuch claims; this section has the sole purpose of protecting theintegrity of the free software distribution system, which isimplemented by public license practices. Many people have madegenerous contributions to the wide range of software distributedthrough that system in reliance on consistent application of thatsystem; it is up to the author/donor to decide if he or she is willingto distribute software through any other system and a licensee cannotimpose that choice.

This section is intended to make thoroughly clear what is believed tobe a consequence of the rest of this License.

How to Apply These Terms to Your New Programs

If you develop a new program, and you want it to be of the greatestpossible use to the public, the best way to achieve this is to make itfree software which everyone can redistribute and change under these terms.

To do so, attach the following notices to the program. It is safestto attach them to the start of each source file to most effectivelyconvey the exclusion of warranty; and each file should have at least

the "copyright" line and a pointer to where the full notice is found.

<one line to give the program's name and a brief idea of what it does.>Copyright (C) <year> <name of author>

This program is free software; you can redistribute it and/or modifyit under the terms of the GNU General Public License as published bythe Free Software Foundation; either version 2 of the License, or(at your option) any later version.

GNU General Public License for more details.

You should have received a copy of the GNU General Public License alongwith this program; if not, write to the Free Software Foundation, Inc.,51 Franklin Street, Fifth Floor, Boston, MA 02110-1301 USA.

Also add information on how to contact you by electronic and paper mail.

If the program is interactive, make it output a short notice like thiswhen it starts in an interactive mode:

Gnomovision version 69, Copyright (C) year name of authorGnomovision comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type `show w'.This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute itunder certain conditions; type `show c' for details.

The hypothetical commands `show w' and `show c' should show the appropriate

parts of the General Public License. Of course, the commands you use may becalled something other than `show w' and `show c'; they could even be mouse-clicks or menu items--whatever suits your program.

You should also get your employer (if you work as a programmer) or yourschool, if any, to sign a "copyright disclaimer" for the program, ifnecessary. Here is a sample; alter the names:

Yoyodyne, Inc., hereby disclaims all copyright interest in the program`Gnomovision' (which makes passes at compilers) written by James Hacker.

This General Public License does not permit incorporating your program intoproprietary programs. If your program is a subroutine library, you mayconsider it more useful to permit linking proprietary applications with thelibrary. If this is what you want to do, use the GNU Lesser GeneralPublic License instead of this License.
