Settlers Farm Campus R-7 Term 3 Week 2, 3rd August 2017 Dear Families, Welcome back to Term 3! STEM Works You may have noted that our building works have not yet commenced: In the last week of term, after all costings were in for the redevelopment, we were informed that we had further funds available to us. A meeting was held in week 10 between the builder, DECD representatives and school personnel to discuss those funds. We are currently negotiating to have an outdoor learning area included in the project with a significant amount of the Main Yard area being covered. One of things our beautiful grounds have lacked over the years is sufficient shade and this was a high priority on the list from our grounds committee. The intention of the outdoor learning area based on STEM Works will be for students to be able to create, test and demonstrate their learning in a larger space. We are hoping that the approval and paperwork will be completed in the next couple of weeks so that the builders can get started on Homestead. If approved, the covering of the outdoor learning area would be scheduled to occur in the October holidays. Playground The other thing you may have noted, especially if you have children in classes over by JP play space, is that all of the equipment has tape around it to signal ‘no play’ on the equipment. We have been advised that the soft fall is critically low and now dangerous for play. It should have been an easy fix however we were advised that it needed to be dug out and then refilled … not so much of a problem except for the cost! We are investigating options e.g. new playground equipment, different fills etc. Our JP students still have the white playground on Grassed Area 2 for climbing and other spaces for running etc. It may appear from the first paragraph that we have available funds, so just to be clear; we are not allowed to use STEM Works funding for other school needs. Staffing Jayne Battams is currently on leave from our front office to recover from surgery on her knee. Keith Holt will be on leave from now until the end of term and we welcome Emily Corelli as teacher in D04. Leanne Beswick will be on jury duty during the month of August. On the days that Leanne is required on the jury, Mandy Axisa will be teaching in C03. There are three panels being run currently for Deputy Principal, Senior leader in Digital Technology and STEM and Business Manager. Other panels yet to begin this term are for two Coordinator roles and permanent teaching staff. It is expected that all of these panels will be completed this term for staff to be in place for the start of the 2018 school year. Optional interviews As part of our reporting process in term 3 we offer optional interviews for parents who wish to touch base with their child’s class teacher. If you wish to have another formal interview with your child’s teacher then all you need to do is request that interview through the class communication process. These interviews can occur at any time during this term after arranging a mutually agreeable time. 30 th Birthday Commemorative Wall Coming home separately this week is some information about our commemorative wall for our 30 th birthday. Purchasing a butterfly for the wall is absolutely optional. Students will be involved in the design process for the background painting that the butterflies will be displayed on. If you are in touch with any ex Settlers students, staff or families then please let us know their contact details so that we can be in touch with them if they would like to be included. Don’t forget to save the date: Tuesday 28 th November from 4:15pm, followed by our Summer Celebration at 6:30pm. Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 3!

STEM Works You may have noted that our building works have not yet commenced: In the last week of term, after all costings were in for the redevelopment, we were informed that we had further funds available to us. A meeting was held in week 10 between the builder, DECD representatives and school personnel to discuss those funds. Playground The other thing you may have noted, especially if you have children in classes over by JP play space, is that all of the equipment has tape around it to signal ‘no play’ on the equipment. Tuesday 4th July 2107

On Tuesday, 4th July, 2017 in week 10, Term 2, Settlers Farm Campus had a

combined Reconciliation Week and Harmony Day celebration day. There was a

karate demonstration for some classes, animal shows and an African dance

performance (with a fantastic teacher performance!) for all classes. Students

also participated in a boomerang design on a wooden boomerang as a

keepsake, as well as a foot prints/animal tracks design and friendship band

making. It was a meaningful and enjoyable event for all!

Cyber Safety Session for Parents

Monday 28th August

On Monday 28th August 6-7pm we will be holding a parent information

session on cyber safety. This session will be run by the South Australian

Police and is a great opportunity for parents to find out information on

keeping their children safe when using the internet, as well as a chance

to ask questions of the police regarding internet safety.

The session is for parents of children of any age.

A free crèche will be available at the OSHC on site.

Please call Jan on 8280 8108 if you wish to book a space.

We look forward to seeing you there.

BREAKING NEWS!!! The leadership committee is proud to announce that they are opening a new

group called the “Radio group!” As the name suggests, the radio committee is

in charge of the radio that will be playing in the school. As well as songs, the

radio will have chats and announcements, just like a real one! We have no

release date for the radio, but we hope to have further news on it!

Rachel’s Write-up Thoughts, encouragements, and life lessons from the Pastoral Care Worker

Hello, Families of Settlers Farm Campus! As the Pastoral Care Worker at this fabulous school, I have been given the privilege of contributing to the fortnightly newsletter. I hope to include things that will encourage, inspire and motivate you in your roles as parents, grandparents, partners, workers and friends. Life can seem crazy – take every opportunity to remind yourself how well you are doing and how valuable you are! As we enter into Term 3, I am reflecting on how quickly this year is flying by… it seems as though Christmas was only yesterday and yet we are halfway through the year already! Where is the time going?! It’s a good reminder for me to truly cherish life, to live and savour every moment, to really appreciate and love family and friends, and to make time to create memories with them…I hope you’ll do the same!

Yesterday is history Tomorrow is a mystery

Today is a gift That’s why it’s called the present!
