Year 7 Life Skills 2013
So what have we done so far?
Why is Prendiville doing this study skills programme?
“To give us a tool that will allow us to work more efficiently in our studies so as to achieve to our full potential
at school”
Understand and Use Your Wall Planner
Often the case for improvement in study is NOT to study ‘harder’ but rather study ‘smarter’.
Effective study comes from both a will within a student and a supportive environment around the student that also pushes them to stick to their
study activities and routine.
Student Wall Planner The wall planner is designed to:
Help students organise their time more efficiently.
Allow students to become more aware of their study commitments in terms of assignments and assessments.
Allows your parents to be part of your study.
Support your routine.
Step 1: Set Your Goals With all Goal Setting there are
three key points:
1. Be realistic with your goals.2. Set goals that are both
positive and measurable.3. Develop strategies on how your
goals are going to be achieved.
Set Your Goals continued…
We need something to aim for – gives us a direction.
We should be always reassessing how we are going and modify our goals.
We all should have attempted and filled out the goals setting sheet. Both Parents and PCA should have signed.

Step 2: Analyse Your Time
When is the best time of the day to do Homework and/or Study?
Early in the morning before school? After school – fresh in your mind? Evening after a meal and relaxed?
Analyse Your Time continued
How to Study Study is vital – just doing our
homework is not adequate in allowing us to retain what we learn.
Study allows us to retain information for test and examination.
It requires routine and discipline. That is why we need a programme and
a plan to work from You need to commit to the programme
you have set up for yourself.
How do you study?

The Student Wall Planner allows students to map out their entire Term’s work in advance.
Plan for Success continued
Term Planner The term planner is where you
write down all the important assessment dates for the term.
Examinations, assignments, excursions, orals, projects, rehearsals as well sporting and other events for the school.
It is NOT a social calendar.
PLAN ALL SCHOOL BASED ASSESSMENTS, EXAMS AND ACTIVITIES
Student Wall Planner
The Student Wall Planner will hopefully encourage you to:
Get organised! Keep your activities in balance. Set your goals. Work at a regular routine. Seek your parent’s and teacher’s
advice when you need it.
Final Points
Please put up your wall planner some where in your house so that your parents have a chance to see it.
This will allow your parents to support you in your studies and gives them a chance to see where you are at school
The Planner is laminated and if a non-permanent felt marker is used the data can be wiped clean and changed as desired.
