The UK NCDs & Development Task Force

• ~20 organisations – NCDs, risk factors, professional bodies, academia

• Goal: to coordinate UK civil society advocacy efforts to the UK government

• Focus in 2012 – seminars to improve understanding and engage with others interested in global health and development

Young Professionals Chronic Disease Network

• 400 Members in 40 counties connected through social media and virtual platforms

• Research, policy and advocacy on NCDs

• 2011 outcomes: Manifesto, Commonwealth Youth, Youth Rally in NY, publications

• 2012 plans include: strategic plan & funding, university chapters, Rio+20 sustainable development project, NCD action campaigns

• 150 global NGOs signed a Statement of Concern to President of the UN General Assembly on the lack of clarity regarding the role of the private sector in public policymaking on NCDs.

Goals in 2012 are to:

• Develop guidelines on a framework to manage conflict of interests for the UN and governments

• Develop guidelines on the distinction between BINGOs and PINGOs (Business Interest and Public Interest NGOs).
