Fakulteta za management Koper je bila ustanovljena leta 1995, leta 2003 pa je bila ena od ustanovnih članic Uni-verze na Primorskem. V desetih letih se je uveljavila na izobraževalnem in raziskovalnem področju in je danes med vodilnimi slovenskimi visokošolskimi zavodi ekonomsko-poslovne smeri. V okviru bolonjskega procesa sistematično razvija študijske programe na vseh treh stopnjah, uvaja pa tudi koncepte vseživljenjskega izobraževanja. Raziskovalna dejavnost potek preko inštitutov in centrov. Fakulteta prispeva k prenosu teorije v prakso, dvigu izobrazbene strukture ter večji konkurenčnosti regije in Slovenije v evropskem prostoru. Dele študijskih programov izvaja v e-okolju – nekatere med njimi tudi v angleškem jeziku, zato se vanje vključujejo tudi tuji študenti in učitelji. V mednarodni prostor vstopa tudi s svojo raziskovalno dejavnostjo. V desetih letih je na fakulteti diplomiralo že več kot 1000 študentov. V Kopru in v študijskih središčih v Novi Gorici, Celju ter Škofji Loki danes študira 3500 dodiplomskih in podiplom-skih študentov, z novimi študijskimi programi jih bo še več. Tako velikemu številu študentov in vedno večjem obsegu dejavnosti je treba zagotoviti ustrezne prostorske razmere. Ena od možnosti je tudi Servitski samostan v starem delu kopra.

The Faculty of Management Koper was founded in 1995. In 2003 it became a member of the University of Primorska. Since its foundation the faculty has gained a considerable reputation in the Slovene higher education and research environment and is today one of the most important higher education institutions in the areas of economics and busi-ness. In accordance with the Bologna process the faculty is systematically developing its undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD study programmes and is introducing the concept of lifelong learning. The faculty’s research activity is carried out through its institutes and centres. It helps create a link between theory and practice, raise the educational levels and increase the competitiveness of the Primorska region and the whole Slovenia within Europe. Part of its study programmes are in an e-learning environment, some are even taught in English what gives students and professors from foreign countries the opportunity to study at the faculty.Since 1995, more than 1000 students have graduated from the Faculty of Management. The faculty in Koper and its study centres in Nova Gorica, Celje and Škofja Loka currently have 3500 graduate and postgraduate students. The faculty needs to provide more space for the growing number of students and the wide range of activities. One of the possibilities could be to move in the Monastery of the Servites in the old town core of Koper.

Servitski samostanThe Monastery of the Servites Samostanski kompleks iz 14. stoletja s sledovi beneške gotike in baročnega sloga sodi med dragocene primere koprske arhitekture. Izredno umetniško vrednost ima predvsem arkadni križni hodnik, poslikan s freskami. Ta samostan je nacionalni spomenik kulturne dediščine prve kategorije in je v lasti Republike Slovenije, z njim pa upravlja Ministrstvo za kulturo.

The monastery complex from the 14th century with elements of the Venetian gothic and the baroque style is one of the most precious examples of the architecture in Koper. Its arcade clois-ter painted with frescos has extraor-dinary artistic value. The Monastery of the Servites is a national heritage monument and is the property of the Republic of Slovenia but is cur-rently administered by the Ministry of Culture.

Idejna umestitev fakultete v servitski samostan je bila prvič predstavljena leta 2003. Obstoječi objekt naj bi obnovili in ga dogradili. Tako bi pridobili 4000 m2 površine, kar bi omogočalo tudi nadaljnji razvoj fakultete. The idea to locate the faculty in the monastery was presented in 2003. The project involves major renovation of the building and new construction, and relates to the acquisition of monastery premises with a total area of 4000 m² what would best meet the faculty’s future needs.

Koper je univerzitetno mesto. Fakulteta za management Koper s svojimi študenti in zaposlenimi prispeva k živahnejšemu utripu kraja. Njeno izobraževalno in raziskovalno dejavnost poznajo tudi v drugih državah, zato prihaja na Obalo vse več tujih profesorjev in študentov. Fakulteta vabi na mednarodne konference strokovnjake z vsega sveta in tako prispeva k uveljavljanju Kopra, Slovenske obale in Slovenije v mednarodnem prostoru. Obnovitev Servitskega samostana bi omogočila tudi kongresno dejavnost ter različna strokovna in kulturna srečanja.

Koper is a university town. Students, professors and non-teaching staff of the Faculty of Management bring added richness to the life of Koper. By collaborating in international education and research and by organizing international conferences the faculty hosts many professors and students from all around the world and thus helps increase the recognition of Koper, the Slovenian coast and Slovenia in the international environment. By moving in the new premises the faculty will be able to organize even more conferences and other important events and will thus increase its international recognition and renown.
