The Pocono’s largest Fabric and Quilt ShopTues. to Sat. 10 to 5, Sun. 12 to 5 (Closed Mon.)
The Country Quilterie Carriage House Square, Office and Retail Complex locat-ed at 2785 Route 115, Effort, PA 18330 has been honored for be-ing one of only seven-ty featured sites, in the entire United States and Canada (and one of only six in the State of Pennsylvania) for it’s unique and inter-esting design, function and use of green space “designed with na-ture and for people”, in the newest edition of “Rural By Design”, a detailed reference guide book for archi-tects, planners, and everyone involved in planning the towns and open spaces in America. Written by renowned author and lecturer, Randall Ar-
endt, this reference book is used in librar-ies and universities throughout the U.S. This book is rec-ommended for “the essential planning li-brary” by the Ameri-can Planning Society and is required read-ing for the AICP exam. Mr. Arendt traveled throughout the U.S. and Canada, gather-ing research for this book, and narrowed his selection down to just seventy proper-ties, including Car-riage House Square! Mr. Arendt’s “Rural By Design” reference book features five pho-tographs and two pag-es of text on Carriage House Square, an 8 unit Office and Retail complex, featuring six
units in the main buld-ing (in the front) and two units in the sec-ond building (set back, and to the right of the parking field, which is located behind the main building). Designed and owned by Arthur and MaryAnn Kwant of Effort, Carriage House Square fea-tures a rear parking field, creekside deck
(overlooking Pohopo-co Creek), with park benches, picnic tables and photo spots, plus several out buildings (Santa’s Workshop, the Woodcarver’s Cottage and the lde QuildingSchool. The main build-ing’s 6 units are oc-cupied by PA State House of Representa-tive Jack Rader (178th Continued on Page 3

Legislative District), Occasion Reflections (locally made crafts and gifts), the Quilting Academy (Quilting School), Be You Tiful (girl’s day spa), Cox Claims Group (inter-national insurance claims office), Effort-less Communications (Motorola business two-way radios), and Fairhaven Properties (residential apart-ment, condo and town home rentals) The second build-ing’s 2 units is occu-pied by the Country Quilterie (fabrics, quilts, quilting sup-plies and home decor), and Carolina Quilt-works (online fabrics, patterns, quilts and quilted accessories). For 15 years, Santa’s Workshop opened it’s doors every Thanks-giving weekend to the local children and their families, and were greeted by Santa and Mrs. Claus who listened to their Christmas wish list, posed for pictures, and gave each child a special little gift. (Mrs. Claus was own-er MaryAnn Kwant’s mother, Anna Weber of Gilbert, PA). For 17 years, Car-riage House Square held the largest Arts and Crafts Festival in the Pocono Moun-tains, 3 times a year on
Memorial Day, Labor Day and Columbus Day weekends. This huge Festival, with over 125 crafters, from all over the U.S. and Canada, featured live music, live demon-strations, delicious Pennsylvania special-ty foods, and live en-tertainment. Hosted by owners Art and
MaryAnn Kwant, the festival drew thou-sands of visitors to the Pocono Mountains, from NY, NJ, CT and DE, and boosted sales of local merchants, eateries, gas stations and lodgings. “Rural By Design” by Randall Arendt is available through Am-azon.com, all major
books stores and pub-lic libraries. For more informa-tion about Carriage House Square, contact Cross Creek Devel-opers, Inc. at 570-620-9707. Carriage House Square’s ad can be found on page three of this week’s edition of The Focus.

Pocono Garden Club Meets
The Pocono Garden Club will hold a gen-eral meeting sched-uled for Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at 1 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Monroe County Environmental Center, Running Valley Road, Bartonsville, Pa. This month’s pro-gram will be given by club members Sharon Carey, Sue Loebsack and Pat Smith. They will instruct members in painting a floral design on terra cotta pots. The monthly design is titled “May Pole”. A topiary design depict-
ing a May pole using fresh or silk materials incorporating ribbons. No accessory permit-ted. The horticulture en-try is a single branch from a blooming her-
baceous perennial (not a woody shrub). In a clear container, not to exceed 24”. The houseplant entry will include any flowering
plant. Anyone is welcome. For more information please contact Linda Bender at 570-977-613l.
Plant Auction The Moorestown Garden will hold it’s 43rd annual plant auc-tion, May 5, 7:00 PM in the fellowship Hall of Salem UCC , 2218 Community Drive, Bath, PA ( 1/2 mile west of light at RT 512 and RT 946.) A large selection of perennials, tubers, bulbs, etc. from mem-ber’s gardens will be
auctioned. The pro-
ceeds help us fund our horticultural scholar-ship program. For information, call 610-837-7078.
Experts say planting newly purchased plants during the late evening or on a cloudy day gives them a much better chance of surviving.
Despite the gardener’s best intentions, Nature will improvise.
-Michael P. Garafalo
(NAPSA)-The grass can be greener on your side of the fence if you heed these eight hints on making the most of mowing. 1. Choose the Cor-rect Cutting Height:
This depends on the type of grass, the amount of rainfall, prevailing tempera-ture and the lawn’s overall condition. 2. Don’t Cut Your Grass Too Short:
Mowing Tips For A Great-Looking Lawn
Mowing too short can result in weak, thin grass that’s easily damaged by drought and pests. Leaving your grass a bit longer reduces heat buildup and preserves needed moisture. A good rule of thumb is the one-third rule-cut no more than a third of the grass height and nev-er more than an inch at a time. 3. Mow With Sharp Blades: Sharp blades cut grass cleanly and efficiently; dull blades tear at the grass, harming it. 4. Mow When the
Grass Is Cool and Dry: Late afternoon or early evening often provides ideal mow-ing conditions. Don’t mow after rain or even heavy dew and never mulch when the grass is wet. Moist grass can clump beneath the mower deck. 5. Water Your Lawn
Regularly: Try to im-itate a slow, soaking rain by applying about an inch of water per week. Consider plac-ing tin cans around your lawn so you can check to be sure you’re giving it the proper amount. 6. Use the Right Amount of Fertilizer:
A slow-release fertil-izer provides missing nutrients for slow, even growth. When to fertilize and how much to use depends
on the condition of your lawn and soil. 7. Aerate in the Spring: Using an aer-ator to remove coresContinued on Page 6

Mowing TipsContinued from
Page 5of soil from the lawn increases clipping de-composition speed and encourages deep-er root growth by opening up the soil and permitting great-er movement of water, fertilizer and air. 8. Select the Right Mower: The right mower for your lawn depends on the size of the property, wheth-
er there are hills and whether you want it to help with other chores, such as pulling a cart for yard work. Once you have your answer, you can decide among a walk-behind mow-er, a rider tractor or a zero-turn machine, advise the experts on lawn care at Simplicity and Snapper. Celebrate Mothers Day weekend with Occasion Reflections. The three day tent event which begins on Friday, May 8th and runs through Sunday, May 10th includes a basket raffle and local handcrafted products. Get Mom the perfect gift that will last, with our featured products, white birch candle sets and fabric rose bou-quets. Frank Battagli-no, crafter of the birch candles, will be on site Saturday and Sun-day to personalize for any special requests.
Doris Zellers, crafter of the rose bouquets, gives some insight on her crafting journey. Zellers states, “ P&D Dezigns was born from my love of sew-ing and my husband’s desire to help me feel productive after I stopped working. I learned the art of sew-ing from my Mother who was a talented seamstress. I feel my crafts and skills are a tribute to her. Thanks to Mom, I am able to sew an endless vari-ety of items, including country/primitive,
Occasion Reflections pillows, placemats, curtains, purses, hol-iday, and kids items, custom items plus so much more. I enjoy composing and adjust-ing patterns to create new things. Adding machine embroidery to my crafts lets me create more specialty items and I am proud to be part of Occasion Reflections.” Occasion Reflec-tions is located off Rt
115 in Carriage House Square plaza in Ef-fort. Store hours are Thursday thru Sundy from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Like us on Facebook to keep updated on all the latest events and sales. As we age, we will do a lot better if we are prepared, focused, and free of excess bag-gage. This includes all things that are toxin, allergen or poison. I work with a team of doctors that will determine food aller-gens; comprehensive blood tests that will determine a number of personal biomark-ers, which once iden-tified and corrected, health improves. My training as a psychiat-ric social worker and my personal gift as an intuitive professional allowed me to see that almost everyone I see has an addiction of some sort, be in phys-ical or emotional, and it’s robbing their vital force and taking them down cell by cell. Something has a hold on them and no mat-ter how many years they’ve had these is-sues, together, after only six sessions, we will release the men-tal, physical, or meta-physical issue that is stealing their precious stamina. As you desire to manifest or attract the best to you on a mate-rial and spiritual level, a positive energy is es-sential, and it can only come from having a clear and detoxified physical and mental body. Our first of six ses-sions I will ask you to make a list of all the
Multi Health Therapiesthings you are hooked on; these can be foods (such as candy, bread or chocolate), beverag-es (such as soda, coffee or milk), or chemical (including drugs and alcohol). Next, make a list of everything that might be an addictive behavior, such as stay-
ing up late, working too hard, worrying too much, overeating, remaining in an unsat-isfying job or relation-ship, etc. Lastly, make a list of thoughts that have you in their grips. These are what you find yourself thinking about most often, in-cluding dwelling on the past, self-deprecat-
ing beliefs, etc. The list is much more compre-hensive, but you get the point. Consciously and subconsciously (hypnosis) you will master your mental activity and be free, and the physical im-proves from this van-tage point as well. Malka Sorger is a Columbia Graduate,
LMSW, Lineage Intu-itive, Certified Hyp-no-Therapist, studied under Brian Weiss, MD, and has an exten-sive understanding of the Mental Causes for

“Mom didn’t want to go to Personal Care ... it was tough! Mom didn’t even want to think about Personal care. She kept insisting that she could manage. i was tempted to remind her that it was me that took her shopping and to the hairdresser and the doctors appointments and the pharmacy but that really wasn’t the crux of the matter at all. After all she’s done for me, i was happy to help out, to do what i could to help her stay in her home. it was the not knowing that kept me up at night. Not knowing whether she was eating regularly, if she had taken her medication or if she’d fallen or left the stove on. i worried constantly and so did my brother so we started checking in on her more often. Eventu-ally we arranged for home care for a couple of hours every day but no matter what measures we took we couldn’t shake the feeling that she was in a rut and had lost that spark. She seemed to lack direction, sleeping odd hours and staring at the tV seemingly unaware of what she was watching half the time. after a family meeting and no small amount of consternation we agreed to suggest to her that she begin to think about a Personal care Residence. As you might imagine she wasn’t crazy about the idea. the only concession she would make was that she would at least visit a couple of facilities for ‘future reference.’ the visit to Walden iii was a revelation to her. i can only imagine what she expected to find but what she
did see, people her age engaged in all sorts of activities or talking animatedly at meals, clearly made an impression on her and although she wasn’t ready to ‘sign on’ then and there, the seed had been planted and within a month she agreed to at least give it a try. it’s been positive for everyone involved! With-in a couple of weeks, Mom’s focus shifted from all that she was ‘giving up’ to all that she’s get-ting. the staff and the residents both seemed to understand what a vulnerable time it can be for newcomers and everyone gave her a very warm reception. The residents are a very nice group of people and their desire to want to continue to do as much as they can for themselves was contagious and Mom seemed to get a boost from the start. i think the key to the whole thing is that they’re engaged in life and now thankfully so is mom. She still won’t say to us that she thinks the move was necessary or that she’s happy to be there but when my brother or i have her home for dinner or a family event at some point during the visit she will invariably inform us that she “should probably be getting home!”

(NAPSI)—The In-ternet makes it easy to shop for the best bar-gain on a used car—just remember, an offer that seems “too good to be true” probably is. It may come from someone known as a “curbstoner.” These are illegal dealers who pose as individual sell-ers online and mostly deal with cars that rep-utable dealers won’t touch.Continued on Page 17

You may see cheap prices but the cars generally have ma-jor problems you’re not told about, such as flood damage, bad accidents or odometer problems. Some may even have a different Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), a trick used by thieves to hide the true identity of stolen cars. Look for: 1. Strange marks or scratches on the dash-board VIN plate or sticker inside the driv-er’s side door. 2. Any car docu-ments where the VIN looks altered. 3. Multiple VINs on different pieces of pa-perwork. 4. The seller’s name not appearing on car title or registration. What to do: Shop online at a place like carfax.com. Every car
for sale there comes with a free Carfax Ve-hicle History Report. Also have a trusted mechanic inspect the vehicle and always see the car in person.
