The RJC recently complet-ed a search for its next Yoetzet Halacha. After in-terviewing several very qualified candidates, the search committee invited 3 finalists to present a shiur and participate in a meet and greet with a group of women representing dif-ferent age-ranges across

the community. It then made a recommendation to the Board, where it was approved with unanimous sup-port.

We are pleased to announce that Julia Baruch has agreed to serve as the RJC’s new Yoetzet Halacha. Her initial role will be along the lines of the classic Yoetzet Halacha, answering questions, offering Taharat HaM-ishpacha-oriented classes and addressing issues about Jewish family life and related information from the psychological, medical and social disciplines. We’d also like to thank Tova Warburg Sinensky, who has served as the RJC’s interim Yoetzet Halacha for the past few months.

Julia is a recent graduate of the second class of the U.S. Yoatzot Halacha Fellows Program of Nishmat’s Miriam Glaubach Center. Prior to studying at Nishmat, she studied at the Stella K. Abraham Beit Midrash for Women – Migdal Oz for one year, and then Julia grad-uated from Columbia University cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology.

Julia currently works at the Child Mind Institute as a clinical program assistant and she plans to pursue a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology. She grew up in Englewood, NJ and currently lives on the Upper West Side with her husband, David, and son, Jacob. In addition to serving the Riverdale community, Julia also serves as the Yoetzet Halacha at Congregation Ke-hilath Jeshurun and West Side Institutional Synagogue in Manhattan.
