thermosets. We also produce polyesters and FDA materials.
What is K•Prene®?K•Prene® is the trade name for the various grades of urethane
elastomers formulated specifically by Acrotech. The K•Prene®
formulations were designed to “fill the gaps” between rubbers with
characteristic resilience and structural plastics with characteristic
hardness. The result is a functional toughness matched by no other
available material in either natural or man-made form.
K•Prene® urethane elastomers have higher oil and solvent resistance
and better thermal stability than most general purpose rubbers and
plastics. They have greater abrasion and tear resistance in combina-
tion with increased load bearing capacity than do the neoprene or
natural rubbers. Their extensibility and impact strength are greater
than those of most plastics materials.

Tension and Compression Comparisons: Most rubber materials have high elongation but low tensile strength.
To obtain greater tensile strength in rubbers, fillers are added with a resultant loss in its ability to elongate. K•Prene® has both high tensile
stress properties and high elongations, even in the harder grades. K•Prene® has far greater load bearing capacity than do conventional
elastomers of comparable hardness which is an important advantage in many areas such as metalworking dies, shock mounts and springs.

K•Prene® has a far greater load-bearing capacity than do
conventional elastomers of comparable hardness, which
permits the design of smaller parts with savings in weight and
material cost. The graph (to the right) compares the compressive
stresses required to deflect samples of the four standard grades
of K•Prene® by up to 50%. When selecting K•Prene® urethane for
certain applications such as metal forming, major consideration
should be given to two factors: Shape Factor and the Modulus
of Elasticity.

Modulus of ElasticityThe Modulus of Elasticity, E, is defined as the force per unit area (stress) divided by the percentage of the change in height (strain); or:
For many of the common engineering materials, such as steels, E is a specific value that remains consistent within the elastic range of
the material. With urethane, however, the E value changes with each specific compound. (See curve on page 9).
The test data for those curves was determined over a two year period. Testing was conducted under controlled conditions, and the data
reflects the variation of E vs. Shape Factor for three K•Prene® grades with dry and lubricated surfaces.
The curves represented a statistical average of the test results, and are offered as a guide to help the engineer predict his forces, size
and grade of urethane required, or percent deflection.
Other Engineering ConsiderationsHeat build -up, due to internal friction (hysteresis effect), is the most common cause of premature failure of urethane. The amount of heat
generated is a direct function of degree of deflection. Thus, in selecting K•Prene® materials minimize the percentage of deflection for
longer life.
K•Prene® urethane can withstand temperatures up to 250° F., although it may soften before that point and lose some load-bearing
capacity. However, upon cooling, it will return to its original physical characteristics. The urethane will also withstand temperatures
down to -80° F.
Lubricated or dry condition of load-bearing area is another factor that affects the stress-strain relationship. For urethane compressed
between parallel plates, there is a tendency for the surface to spread laterally. While a clean, dry loaded surface offers some resistance to
this lateral movement, a lubricated surface will offer essentially none. If extremely high pressures are required, lateral movement can be
prevented by bonding the urethane to metal with double-faced tape or K-20 adhesive.
Cut resistance of K•Prene® urethane is very high. However, placing it near a sharp metal edge or permitting it to bulge over a sharp edge
should be avoided. With forces involved, the urethane may fail due to cutting or fracturing.
The Shape FactorThe Shape Factor accounts for urethane blocks or cylinders
bulging at their sides when under a compressive load. Increasing
the area that is free to bulge decreases vertical displacement,
or for the same displacement requires greater force.
The concept of Shape Factor is numerically defined as the area
of one loaded surface divided by the total area of the unloaded
surfaces that are free to bulge. Dimensionally, this may be written as:
These equations are limited to:
1) Pieces which have parallel loading faces.
2) Pieces whose thickness is not more than twice the smallest lateral dimension.
S.F. = l w 2t (l + w)
E = F/A H/HT
S.F. = d 4h
for rectangular
shaped blocks
for solid discs
and cylinders
Where: l = length, w = width, t = thickness, d = diameter, h = height.
Where: F = force, A = area, H = change in height, HT = total height.

OR,
How to use the CurvesIn solving problems, the engineer should first determine the Shape Factor using the formula previously introduced, and assume a particular size
of urethane pressure pad.
Having once determined the Shape Factor, the engineer can then select the appropriate grade of K•Prene® urethane, and come horizontally
across on the chart to find E. With the Modulus of Elasticity known, one can then apply the basic formula of E to solve for either force or
percentage of deflection.
That is:
*For deflections more than 20%, E must be modified by the multiplier derived from the small curve. For deflections equal to or smaller
than 20%, this multiplier is one.
Note: Solutions for “force” or “percentage of deflection” using these equations should be accurate to within ± 10% of actual values.
Be sure to allow for this margin of error in problem solving.

Electrical PropertiesK•Prene® has been used successfully for potting and encapsulation at frequencies up to 100 kilocycles and at temperatures up to 212° F.
(Typical electrical properties are shown below).
Abrasion ResistanceK•Prene® has outstanding abrasion resistance and can outlast conventional rubbers and plastics which leads to many important applications
where severe wear is a problem. The selection of K•Prene® for these end uses is normally based on service tests, since laboratory abrasion
tests can be misleading. In actual use K•Prene® has demonstrated more than eight times the abrasion resistance of ordinary rubbers and
plastics.
Coefficient of FrictionK•Prene® has a low, unlubricated coefficient of friction which decreases sharply with the harder grades such as K-750D. This property,
in combinations with superior load bearing ability and abrasion resistance, makes K•Prene® desirable for use in bearings and bushings.
Tension PropertiesMeasurements of tensile strength for K•Prene® are not used as frequently by the design engineer as compression measurements. This is
because the elastomer is used less frequently in tension. On the other hand, tension tests are commonly used by the rubber compounder
and are almost universally used to establish the general performance characteristics of the elastomer.
(Tensile stress-strain curves for various grades of K•Prene® are shown above). Note that they possess high strength even at low elongations,
and that hard grades as well exhibit good elongation.
AdhesionDuring fabrication of composite parts, K•Prene® can be readily adhered to many metals, elastomers and plastics to form a bond that is often
stronger than the elastomer itself. Also, because of its hardness and rigidity, K•Prene® components can be mechanically fastened to metal,
wood, or concrete structures with practical results.
Flex PropertiesK•Prene® will resist cracking under repeated flexure and accordingly finds successful use in many dynamic applications such as flexible hoses
and couplings. In all elastomers the rate of cut growth can be reduced by decreasing the thickness of the part, normally with a corresponding
loss in strength. With K•Prene®, however, thin sections can be used effectively because of this elastomer’s exceptional strength and toughness.
Impact ResistanceK•Prene® has significantly better impact resistance than structural plastics. All grades of K•Prene® including the hardest grade K-750D show
good impact resistance at low temperatures and low brittle points.

The superior mechanical properties of K•Prene® urethane are not greatly affected by many environmental influences. In comparison with
other elastomers, K•Prene® shows outstanding performance over a wide temperature range. K•Prene® exhibits excellent resistance to
most common lubricants and aliphatic solvents, and has outstanding water resistance.
THIS SECTION COVERS THE EFFECTS UPON K•PRENE® OF NORMALLY ENCOUNTERED ENVIRONMENTAL INFLUENCES.
Cold ResistanceK•Prene® remains flexible at very low temperatures and possesses outstanding resistance to thermal shock. Standard grades remain
flexible at temperatures below -80°F., although stiffening does occur as the temperature is reduced below 0°F. Special compositions
can be formulated which retain a degree of flexibility at temperatures as low as -125°F.
Heat ResistanceK•Prene® can be used for service applications at temperatures up to 200-250°F., with only a minor decrease in physical properties as
tested at ambient temperatures (75°F.).
Use of K•Prene® above 250°F., even if only intermittent, is not recommended and each contemplated use at 200°F., or above should be
evaluated individually beforehand.
Resistance to AgingProperly compounded products of K•Prene® are not affected by the passage of time under static ambient temperature conditions. This
statement can be substantiated by data on specimens stored for periods of six years or more. Prolonged use in normal service is not a
problem, nor is there any indication of shelf aging.
However, the introduction of certain other environmental influences combined with the passage of time can accelerate deterioration.
For instance, chemical agents or dynamic forces acting upon a K•Prene® product over a period of time can intensify the aging process.
Normally in multiple attacks such as these the effects strictly due to aging may be so masked as to become unrecognizable.
Water ResistanceK•Prene® is resistant to the swelling and deteriorating effects of immersion in water and has excellent long term stability in water at
temperatures as high as 120°F. Tests show that even after immersion in water for as long as one year at 120°F., a typical grade retained
75% of its original tensile strength.
The chemical structure of K•Prene® gives us an excellent hydrolytic stability such that a mixture of water and oil will have no greater effect
on the elastomer than water by itself.
Weatherability and Color StabilityProlonged exposure to ultraviolet light will gradually degrade physical properties of K•Prene®. For applications in which long term
UV exposure is required, special formulations are available.
OutgassingProducts made from K•Prene® are very stable under high vacuum conditions. They show extremely low weight losses in standard outgas-
sing tests. This property, combined with excellent low temperature performance, suggests logical applications in the aerospace field.
Flame ResistanceAll K•Prene® grades are either extremely slow burning or self-extinguishing as tested in accordance with ASTM 0635. It is possible to
obtain special compounds containing flame retardants which are completely non burning under test conditions.
Mold, Mildew, Fungus ResistanceStandard compounds of K•Prene® do not support fungus and are generally resistant to fungus attack and mildew growth. Samples buried
for one year in moist inoculated soil showed no evidence whatever of attack, and the vulcanizate properties were essentially unchanged.
Oxygen and Ozone ResistanceK•Prene® resists oxidation and is immune to the powerfully destructive attack of ozone. Oxygen and ozone in atmospheric concentrations
have no observable effect on K•Prene®. In one test specific, K•Prene® grades were exposed to three parts per million ozone under 20%
static strain conditions for 500 hours with no signs of surface cracking or crazing. It is this property in combination with insulating
electrical properties that makes K•Prene® ideal for use around electrical equipment where ozone concentrations are highest.
Likewise, stress-strain properties of K•Prene® are little changed after oxygen exposure for four weeks at 158°F., under 300 PSI oxygen
pressure.
Environmental Properties of K•Prene®
properties
12
Radiation ResistanceK•Prene® urethane has excellent resistance to the damaging
effects of gamma ray radiation in comparison with other
elastomers and plastics. Products of K•Prene® appear capable
of giving satisfactory service even when exposed to high
gamma ray concentration of up to 100 megaroentgens.
They are more resistant than are other elastomers to stress
cracking and retain a great amount of their original flexibility
and physical toughness while exposed to gamma radiation.
As a result, K•Prene® can be used to provide radiation
protection in atomic reactor installations, x-ray laboratories,
and aerospace facilities.
Oil and Solvent ResistanceOil resistance is the ability of a part to retain utility in contact
with oil. There are two effects which commonly occur. The
first is a change in dimensions or swelling, and the second
is deterioration of the material’s original properties.
K•Prene® has excellent oil resistance which makes its
products particularly suitable for service in the presence of
lubricating oils and greases. K•Prene® will resist animal fats
and oils, waxes, greases, and most aliphatic hydrocarbons.
Aromatic hydrocarbons and polar or chlorinated solvents
have a moderate to severe effect on K•Prene®.
It is recommended that tests be made beforehand if the
application under consideration will involve direct contact
with oils as sometimes oil additives attack the material.
Chemical ResistanceThe best way to determine whether or not the product will
be entirely satisfactory for a given application is to test it in
actual service. Where this is not practical, simulated tests
should be devised to duplicate actual service conditions as
closely as possible. Acrotech should be provided with
complete details on the conditions involved or the intended
application to insure that the parts are correctly compounded
and processed to provide successful resistance against
chemical attack.
The A, B and C ratings (in the table below) are based upon
data from laboratory tests and records of actual service
performance. Where specific information is not available,
T and X ratings are indicated. These are educated guesses
based upon experience and a familiarity with the chemistry
involved. T means, “Test before using but most likely to be
satisfactory”. X means, “Most likely to be unsatisfactory”.
Unless otherwise noted, all ratings are at room temperature
and the concentrations of all aqueous solutions may be
considered saturated. In the case where parenthetical
temperatures are listed, they refer to temperatures actually
used in tests or service applications, but do no necessarily
represent temperature limits.

• Maintain high blade tension.

• Good tolerances possible with K-750D, for other grades use over-size drills.
• Except for K-750D, use over-size tap to allow for shrinkage or urethane.
• Form tools may be used (especially when machining K-750D).
• Air blast to eliminate build up.
• Use lubricant to help prevent dishing.
• Flycutting at approx. 3" dia. give best results.
Modulus of ElasticityUrethanes are resilient and can be easily distorted, so care must be taken to avoid distortion due to holding or cutting forces.
Softening PointGumming, poor finishes and poor dimensional control will readily occur if excess heat is generated and allowed
to accumulate. Proper tool geometry, feed rates and cutting speed in conjunction with coolants can usually
overcome these problems. Water-soluble cutting oils and/or light machine oils are good
coolants for urethanes.
Lower Thermal ConductivityHeat generated by the cutting tools stays close to the tool and raises the urethane temperature rapidly.
This heat must be controlled. Melting can occur above 350° F.
Elastic MemoryElastic recovery occurs in urethanes both during and after machining, so the cutting tool must provide clearance to compensate
accordingly. Without compensation, expansion of the urethane after cutting will result in increased friction between the cut surface and
the cutting tool. Excess heat build-up will result. Elastic recovery after machining can result in smaller internal diameters or larger external
diameters than were measured during cutting.
Machining of K•Prene®Machining of K•Prene® urethane proves useful when the required tolerances cannot be obtained by conventional molding methods, or when
low production runs do not justify the cost of molds. We maintain a complete inventory of sheets, round rods, and bars in six different
hardnesses which can often be used to make prototypes or limited production quantities.
The table below details the general machining characteristics of K•Prene® urethane K-900A durometer and harder. For K•Prene® urethane
below K-800A durometer, cutting tools are often not satisfactory and grinding may be required. In some cases, machinability can be improved
by freezing K•Prene urethane below K-800A durometer with dry ice or liquid nitrogen.
Machining of K•Prene® urethane is similar to that of metals, and in most cases the same tools can be used.
The principle differences between metal and urethane machining are:

Metal Forming Applications Using UrethaneMetal Forming Applications Using UrethaneWhy use K•Prene® urethane in forming applications?
There are several families of urethane elastomers, but not all of them will perform equally well. Even within one grade of a given
urethane formulation, cured properties can vary widely. K•Prene® urethane is specifically compounded and processed by Acrotech Inc.,
to maximize the characteristics desired for optimum tool and die operation. Some of the major advantages of urethane
are non-compressibility, resiliency, and the ability to form and hold metal without marring its surface finish.
It behaves similar to a solid fluid with a memory; under force it will change its shape, but its volume will
remain constant. Urethane will produce high, uniform and continuous counter pressure
under load. And, when the load is removed, it quickly returns to its original shape.
Application Examples where K-Prene® Urethane Can Be Used
Radius Forming with Deflector Bars
Urethane die with deflector bars positioned under pad.
Bars are graduated in size to control deflection of urethane.
This helps form the
difficult bends.
Compound Bends
Difficult forms like these can be made with a standard
urethane die pad (definition is best with lighter gauges).
Deflector bars beneath die pad
provide air space to permit
greater penetration
into pad.
Over-forming
Unique adaptation of urethane pad to over-form flanges.
Here, the pad is cast or machined-to-shape because greater
pressures are required. This
design provides compensation
for springback.
Bulging Punch
Stripping Pad for Punching
A standard urethane
pressure pad
machined to fit around
punch. This is an easy,
economical method
of constructing a
durable, oil resistant,
high pressure
stripping pad.
Roll Bending
A rotating steel shaft coated with
K•Prene® working with another steel
shaft positioned directly above, results
in round parts with little or no flats on
the leading or trailing ends.
In bulging applications, urethane offers much longer service
life than rubber, and is very cost effective compared to
expanding/shrinking steel punches. Displacement of ure-
thane punch under compression forces metal outward into
desired shape. Amount of bulge is determined by depth of
stroke. When ram is raised (after stroke), urethane resumes
its normal shape and bulged part can be easily removed.

Basic Machine ConstructionThere are two basic frame designs:
1) Horizontal 2) Vertical
LD, HD, 1618, 1212 & 1824 Models depict a typical horizontal roll-bending machine. Its major parts
include the bottom, urethane-covered roll, the top (steel) roll, and
the overarm, which can be opened and closed to facilitate the
removal of a finished piece part. (See page 17 for models).
Model V-1006 depicts a typical vertical roll-bending machine.
The operation of this machine is basically the same as that of the
horizontal one, except that in this case, piece parts are loaded and
unloaded vertically. In general, the vertical machine is faster than the
horizontal one, but it is limited to rolling piece parts that are shorter.
(See page 17 for models).
In every case, steel plate and steel weldments are used in the frame
of the machine. This provides sufficient rigidity and, at the same time,
resiliency, necessary to roll parts of varying thickness.
Two Roll vs. Three Roll ProcessNote that the drawbacks of the three roll systems, whether pinch
or pyramid type, are that the work piece is not confined during the
bending process, i.e., bending takes place “in the air.” When rolling
parts this way to some desired shape and tolerance, several passes
might be required with roll adjustments necessary after each pass.
This is relatively slow and requires considerable skill on the opera-
tors’ part.
The Two Roll PrincipalThe Two Roll Principle method is comprised of a steel top roll and
a urethane bottom roll. A segment of this top roll is pushed into
the urethane bottom roll, and this deflecting volume of urethane
functions the same as hydraulic fluid in a hydroforming process,
exerting very high pressures against the steel roll. When sheet
metal is inserted between two such rolls, the urethane wraps
the sheet metal tightly against the steel roll (similar to a radius
forming urethane press brake die), and since the urethane roller
is driven, the sheet metal is roll formed into a precise radius.
Allowing for natural spring back of the material, this radius
remains uniform irrespective of whether the shape of the part
being formed is a complete circle, or is only a segment of a circle.
In most applications this will eliminate the necessity of either
pre-forming or cutting off the ends. The flat spots on the leading
and trailing edges are very minimal (approx. one to four material
thicknesses, depending on the type of material). Otherwise
difficult-to-roll sheet metal parts, such as those with perforations,
cut-outs, uneven feeding or trailing edges, embossed parts, etc.
can be formed without kinking or fluting. Finally, the relatively
soft urethane surface will not mar or scratch finished surfaces.
Getting Parts WithDifferent RadiiIn all cases the radius of the rolled part is controlled by the radius
of the top roll and the natural spring-back of the material
(SO ACCURATE IS THE PRESSURE OF THE TWO ROLL
SYSTEM THAT IF, IN A GIVEN RUN, PARTS WITH WRONG
RADUIUS START COMING OFF THE MACHINE, THE THING
TO DO IS TO CHECK THE MATERIAL QUALITY, NOT THE
MACHINE SETTING).
In other words, the machine has a “zero tolerance”, meaning that
variations in the free diameter of the rolled part are due only to
the variations (hardness, temper and thickness of material) in the
natural spring-back of the material.
Some of the disadvantages of a Three Roll, Pinch-Type or Pyramid-Type system include:
The ends of blanks must be pre-formed on other
equipment (or cut off which means material waste).
Flat areas may form between cutouts and perforations in
a part, eliminating the possibility of making such openings
while the piece part is flat, requiring more complex process.
Fluting or kinking of material will occur especially in parts
with cutouts and perforations.
It is practically impossible to roll prefinished (polished,
painted, enameled, etc.) material without the possibility
of damaging finished surfaces (cracking and scratching).
The Art of Roll BendingRoll-bending or curving, as defined here, designates the manufacture
of sheet-metal parts that are rolled or curved into cylindrical shapes
or shapes that have a smooth radius associated with them.

Roll Benders Specifications
Understanding One Pass RollingThe One Pass Acrotech method permits rolling segments of cylinders or complete cylinders from all types of sheet metal – finished, embossed,
perforated, wire mesh, regular or irregular shapes up to ¼" thick in a SINGLE PASS. This can be done at production rates ranging from 100 to
350 parts per hour on standard machines, to 1200 parts per hour on special machines.
Parts 2” wide to full width of the machine roll to the same diameter.
The Two Roll rolling and curving machine has a rather unique construction feature. This is what we call the anti-deflection system and this system
eliminates the possibility of rolling bell-mouth parts, which is caused by roll deflection. The center shaft can deflect under pressure, while the outer
tube stays parallel. The two bearings used between the tube and center shaft are of double roller spherical type and are self-aligned bearings. This
feature is used both in the top roll and the lower urethane roll. Conventional Three roll machines will normally crown the rolls, trying to eliminate the
bell-mouth condition.
The force package of the Acrotech Two Roll machine will consist of either a pneumatic or hydraulic package. The machine itself consists of a set
of linkage that is powered into position by a hydraulic or pneumatic cylinder. Once the linkage is into position, it actually over-centers and mechani-
cally locks the roll into position, thereby eliminating the need for the hydraulic or pneumatic system to provide the pressure. What this means is the
machine is mechanically locked into position and this position cannot change with the entry of material, thereby giving you a repeatable part diameter.
The drive package is a very simple and low maintenance system consisting of an electrical motor and gear reducer and a chain drive to another set of
sprockets, further reducing the rolling speed and then directly to the urethane roll. The reason we are powering the urethane roll is to eliminate any
slippage that would be caused by rolling oily material. The urethane roll itself is not affected by grease or oil; therefore, de-greasing of the sheet stock
is not mandatory.
The Two Roll rolling and curving machine is a machine that is aimed at the high production market. Since each diameter part must have an individual
sleeve or shaft developed to produce this part, it is not feasible to use this style of machine in an atmosphere where there are a very low number of
parts produced and a very high number of sizes. Rather, we are looking for a market where there are a high number of parts to be run.
Roll Bending Spring-Back Example:Commercial quality hot rolled and cold rolled steels in the 1020 carbon range have a wider tolerance of spring-back and are, therefore, subject
to more variation than the lower carbon steels in the 1010 carbon or lower range. This means that with commercial quality steels, a change can
be expected from one shipment to another, or even within the same batch of material being used. This change in spring-back will alter the free
rolled diameter of the finished part. With the precision roller, compensating for spring-back variations can be accomplished by changing the
diameter of the slip-on-tube being used.
Acrotech cannot be responsible for the variation in spring-back due to different material thickness or temper from the material submitted for development or subsequent materials used.

Tooling Slip on Tubes – when the diameter required is larger than
what the top shaft will produce, a Slip-On Tube is used. The tubes are
developed per part size and increase the forming diameter capability of
the top shaft. Quickly change the tube by simply slipping them on and
off the top shaft as needed. A Slip-On Tube will be required for each
specific part.
Slip-On Tube Support – facilitates removal of finished piece-part.
Adjustable in height, this accessory supports slip-on tubes to prevent
pinching curved cylinders against lower roll when removing finished
parts.
Small-OD Mounting Fixture – required for rolling parts smaller in
diameter than the standard top roll.
Small-OD Shaft Assembly – available in various lengths and diam-
eters for rolling material to a diameter smaller than standard top roll.
Must be used in conjunction with Small-OD Mounting Fixture.
Auto Timer – for controlling partial curvature of material 90°,
U-bends, etc. Can be used in conjunction with Part Ejectors for
automated rolling and part ejection. (not shown)
Reversing Control – gives added flexibility for special jobs.
(not shown)
Part Ejector – for increased production, part ejectors and part
feeders can be developed for most parts.
Motorized Roll Position Control – speeds the set-up from one job
to another. (not shown)
Additional Safety Features – can be custom built per customer
requests. Features such as light curtains, special guarding…etc

Stocked in 95A Durometer, tubes/springs are useful in applications
where vibration, corrosion and magnetism prevent the use of steel
springs. Also, urethane springs have proven to be safest, most efficient
and reliable compression material for punching, stamping and drawing
dies.
The K•Prene® urethane Tube/Spring material is a polyether-elastomer
that reacts similarly to an incompressible fluid. The volume of material
moved by compression is displaced laterally in the form of bulging sides.
An approximate change in the diameter of our K•Prene® urethane Tubes/
Springs can be made by increasing the diameter by the same amount of
compression.
Example: A 1.50" long spring is to be deflected by 15% or .225". The
diameter will then also increase roughly by .225". The material’s lateral
expansion must be considered for many applications.
The maximum recommended free (unloaded) length is 2.5 times the
springs outside diameter, although springs may be stacked with guide
rods and washer-shaped spacers.
Suggested maximum cyclic frequencies and deflection percentages of
free length are summarized by the following for 95A Durometer Tubes/
Springs.
K•Prene® Urethane Tubes/Springs
Maximum Deflection Cycle Per Hour
Slow speeds or
short runs Less than 25% 200
Intermittent Up to 25% 700
Continuous Up to 15% 12,000

versa roll™

Our super tough urethane material forms the functional outer hub of the roller, caster, or wheel.
It readily absorbs shock and resists cutting. This material is bonded to a second material, which
functions as the roller, caster, or wheel’s very durable inner bearing. These two bonded materials
provide the wear resistance and durability that bring extraordinary performance. The Versa Roll™
is manufactured in a uniform roll, which allows the user to simply cut off pieces at the lengths
necessary to become their needed rollers, casters, or wheels.
End users of our Versa Roll™ products discover the unique versatility and shock absorbing toughness
of this product. The rollers, casters, and wheels developed from Versa Roll™ require a much lower level
of maintenance in each type of application in which they are used.
MOVING MATERIALS — The level of automation in today’s manufacturing environment continues to grow rapidly.
The movement of materials using rollers, casters, and wheels is the most significant contribution to the savings in
labor in today’s manufacturing facilities. The Versa Roll™ brings a simple and highly-flexible roller, caster, and wheel solution that will
fit existing material handling formats, and can also be used to move your facility into the next generation of material moving efficiencies.
MAINTENANCE RESPONSIVENESS — No longer do maintenance staff need to look up replacement parts in a catalog or wait precious days or
weeks for the parts to arrive. With Versa Roll™, your replacement products are each only one band saw cut away. The versatility of Versa Roll™
allows the fabrication of nearly any rolling component on the spot. The resulting replacement component oftentimes last longer than the part
that it replaced.
MANUFACTURER VALUE — Versa Roll’s durability and productivity, combined with its low cost, offers manufacturers a value that they can’t find
anywhere else.
MAINTENANCE COST: Versa Roll’s most compelling characteristic is its versatility. Maintenance staff, with the proper Versa Roll™ products
in inventory, can get back up and running in no time. Both the outside diameter and the inside diameter of each Versa Roll™ can be easily
machined to develop custom sizes that fit like a glove and work like a horse. This versatile product gives you unmatched control over roller,
coaster, and wheel maintenance, allowing you to minimize maintenance supply inventory, and introduce replacement parts that often
outperform the parts you replace.
IMPACT ABSORPTION: Unlike metal roller, coaster, and wheel hubs, Versa Roll™ parts absorb shock. This characteristic extends the wear of
Versa Roll™ parts. Metal parts tend to bang and pound when shock is introduced, resulting in lost concentricity, increased brittleness, and
broken parts. Versa Roll™ parts are constructed of shock absorbing materials that minimize impact-driven damage, extending the life of your
parts.
LUBRICATION-FREE APPLICATIONS: In many plant situations where lower levels of stress or speed are placed upon your material convey-
ing equipment, Versa Roll™ parts can be run lubrication-free. Our product also brings peace of mind to plan managers who need material
conveyed in a way that keeps a clean environment. Versa Roll™ allows a clean environment to remain clean, completely avoiding dirty oil or
grease dripping.
LOW WEIGHT: Conveyor systems on aircraft and in other situations oftentimes require weights to be minimized. Compared to roller parts
fashioned with metal hubs, often constructed of aluminum or metal alloys, Versa Roll™ parts are lighter in weight. This allows you to cut
conveyor weight, while maintaining or improving performance.
CLEAN OPERATION: Metal bearings are collection points for dirt, dust, and grime that emanated from a dusty or dirty work environment.
These collected contaminants often lead to expedited wear of these bearings and rollers. Versa Roll™ expels the dirt and grime from the
roller parts, stepping up the cleanliness of the conveying system.
EASY TO INSTALL: Versa Roll’s hub (bearing) component makes installation of rollers, coasters, and wheels a snap! Simple standard cold
roll steel can be used for shaft fabrication. Shaft diameters and Versa Roll™ parts can quickly and easily be matched for excellent, smooth-
running operation. Selecting polished shafts extend the life of Versa Roll™ parts, even more!
QUIET RUNNING: No more metal clanging or screeching. Versa Roll™ ends the noisy work environment by bringing significant reductions
to roller and material handling noise.
MOISTURE, OIL, AND SOLVENT RESISTANT: The adjoining table outlines the benefits of these excellent Versa Roll™ characteristics.
MARK-FREE: Versa Rolls do not mark or scratch conveyed products, like many rubber and metal rollers do.
NO FLAT SPOTTING: Leaving some rubber and plastic parts under a stationary load for extended periods can cause permanent flat spots
on the rollers. Versa Rolls recover their shape more quickly and more completely than rubber rollers do. Conversely, plastics do not recover,
as the roller damage to those materials is often permanent.

WORN OUT DIES BECOME PRECISION DIES
Just simply slip “Acroform” into an existing female die (Fig. A). Acroform™ sizes correspond to the nominal steel die opening – 1" Acroform™
fits 1" wide standard die. Use approximately 2" longer Acroform™ length than length of bend. If long bends are being made, simply butt
Acroform™ ends together (Acroform™ is available in up to 4' lengths) using two-faced tape in the female die to prevent Acroform from
separating at the joints (Fig. B). Press or die misalignment is not a problem as it is with hard steel dies.
Remember no-marks on stainless, aluminum, vinyl coated stock and pre-painted stock. Cracking is reduced and in many cases eliminated when
forming difficult materials.
IT’S THE FASTEST WAY TO SHORT FLANGE BENDING. FOR EXAMPLE TRY FORMING THESE FLANGES IN STEEL DIES:
• 5/16" Leg, 90° Flange, 16 ga. M.S. 1" wide “V” die
• 1/8" Leg, 90° Flange, 24 ga. M.S. 1" wide “V” die
• 1/16" Leg, 90° Flange, .001" Brass, 1" wide “V” die
• 5/8" Leg, 90° Flange, 10 ga. M.S. 1" wide “V” die
NOTE: No female die change was necessary for any of the above forming examples. However, bends of this type may cut and otherwise reduce
the life of the Acroform™ pad.
For maximum life of Acroform™, use the least penetration that will produce the desired bend and generally do not penetrate to a depth of more
than 30% of the Acroform™ height.
*Clean Acroform™ to avoid abrasion.
NOTE: Bends will generally have little or no springback and you may find that standard over-bend punches can be replaced with accurate male
punches.
The maximum thickness capacity of your female die remains approximately the same when using Acroform™, except that you can now also
form thinner materials without changing the female die to a smaller size.
For guidance of the tonnage required with 1" Acroform™ and a 90° bend in M.S.:
20 ga. – 4 tons/ft. approximate • 16 ga. – 6 tons/ft. approximate • 14 ga. – 9 tons/ft. approximate • 11 ga. – 20 tons/ft. approximate
SPECIAL NOTE: 2" Acroform™ forms all 90° and 30° bends normally requiring smaller die openings. For short flanges and smaller press brakes,
particularly in gauge stock, 1" is adequate. Because applications of Acroform™ vary, it is not possible for us to predict precise results covering all
cases.
Acroform™ Inserts: It’s as simple & economical as it sounds!
ACROFORM™
FIGURE: A
NORMAL APPLICATIONS
FIGURE: B
For long dies or
severe applications
The Acroform™ insert is made of a specially formulated urethane and is designed to fit standard female press brake dies. This
composition does not compress, but flows to form the shape of the male punch, literally wrapping the material around the
punch, providing a scratch-free, accurate bend.

For a quick and effective way to avoid die marks on stainless steel, pre-
painted material, etc. simply position these 1" or 2" inserts in corresponding
90°bottom dies! The K•Prene® insert will conform to a variety of punch tips.
In addition to eliminating the secondary procedure expense of removing die
marks, your die will now act like a universal bottom die.
The forming of expanded metal or mesh is simplified, as cracking is reduced
and often eliminated.
This product is stocked in K•950A. It is available in softer grades.

LONGER TOOL LIFE: These strippers generate high holding pressure
and strip the blank cleanly from the punch, resulting in an optimum
working condition for the punch and longer effective work life.
VERY HIGH LOAD-BEARING CAPACITIES.
SAFER THAN STEEL SPRINGS, SINCE THEY DO NOT FRAGMENTIZE.
EASY TO USE: Simply push stripper onto punch shank (I.D. is slightly
undersized to grip punch). First stroke of press forces punch tip
through stripper bottom.
IDEAL FOR PUNCHING ODD SHAPED HOLES.

Acrotech WarrantyDefective parts of a Roll Bending Machine manufactured by ACROTECH will be replaced or repaired at no charge for twelve (12) months following delivery to the original purchaser. Labor is included for the first 90 days. This warranty becomes void when products have not been used according to instructions furnished by ACROTECH nor does it cover any altered parts or unauthorized repairs. We cannot be responsible for the cost of repairs made or attempted outside of our factory. All other warranty claims are made FOB our plant, providing such item(s) is returned freight prepaid to our plant for examination.
This warranty does not apply to parts, components or systems not manufactured by ACROTECH. These products are covered instead by the existing warranties, if any, of their manufacturers. Normal service items with a reasonable life expectancy of less than one year are warranted only to the extent of the reasonable life under normal use and service.
Authorization must be obtained from ACROTECH before returning parts or equipment to the factory. ACROTECH will satisfy this warranty by replacing the product or refunding the purchase price upon receipt and inspection of the product.
Standard and custom urethane products will be for a period of 60 days after shipment from defects in material only. Misuse of the urethane material voids the warranty. ACROTECH’s liability under this warranty shall not exceed the amount paid for the product.
THIS IS ACROTECH’S SOLE WARRANTY IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, WHICH ARE HEREBY EXCLUDED, INCLUDING IN
PARTICULAR ALL WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS OR ANY LOSS, DAMAGE OR EXPENSES DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY RELATED TO THE USE
OF ITS PRODUCT OR FROM ANY OTHER CAUSE OR FOR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, LOSS OF TIME AND LOSS OF
PRODUCTION.
IT IS EXPRESSLY UNDERSTOOD THAT ACROTECH IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR DAMAGE OR INJURY CAUSED TO OTHER PRODUCTS, MACHINERY, PROPERTY
OR PERSONS BY REASON OF THE USE OF ITS PRODUCTS.
