1 Safety
TheLinearUnithasbeenconstructedaccordingtocurrentstate-of-the-artprinciplesandvalidregulations.Specialattentionhasbeengiventothesafetyoftheuser.TheUnitcomplieswiththeEUMachineryDirective,harmonizedstandards,EuropeanstandardsorthecorrespondingnationalstandardsThisisconfirmedbyamanufacturer’sdeclaration.ItisforbiddentostartupthelinearunitsuntilithasbeenensuredthatthemachineorplantinwhichithasbeeninstalledcomplieswiththeregulationsintheEUMachineDirective,theharmonizedstandards,Europeanstandardsorthecorrespondingnationalstandards. Proper connections are essential to comply with the law on the electromagnetic compatibility of machine components. Almotion only supplies the mechanical parts and never any electricity or electro-magnetic parts, therefore we not accept any liability in this.
AnyelectricalinstallationmustbedonebyaqualifiedEMCtechnician.The following regulations apply: • relevantaccidentpreventionregulations• generallyacceptedsafetyregulations• EUDirectives• otherapplicablestandards• nationalregulations
1.1 Significanceoftheinstructionmanual
Theinstructionmanualbelongstothedesignatedunitand:• mustbekeptreadilyaccessibleuntilthemachineisdiscarded,• mustbehandedovertoownersorborrowersiftheunitissoldorlent.Alwayscontactthemanufacturerifthereisanythingthatyoudonotunderstandproperlyintheinstructionmanual.
It is unavoidable that there are still a few risks for persons and property associated with these components. Therefore, every person who works with this unit and is involved with transport, installation, operation, maintenance and repair of the unit must be trained and be aware of the possible dangers. The instruction manual, in particular safety instructions, must be carefully read, understood and followed.
No knowledge or inadequate knowledge of the instruction manual voids the liability of Lineairtechniek®/Almotion® for any claims. The operator is therefore recommended to have written confirmation of staff training.

1.2 Intended use
ThemechanicallineardriveunitsofLT- series units aredesignedexclusivelyfor:• positioning,continuouslymoving,conveying,palletizing,loading,unloading,clamping, tensioning,checking,measuring,handling,manipulating,andpushingworkpiecesor toolsinindustrialmachines.Ingeneral,themainusesoftheLT-seriesmustbetakenintoaccount.Thereforealwaysconsultyoursupplier.
Anyotheroradditionaluseisconsideredasunauthorized.Themanufacturerisnotliablefordamagesresultingfromsuchapplications.Theuserissolelyresponsible.Becauseoftheversatilityofthelinearunit,theuserisalwaysresponsiblewhentheusebegins
Thelinearunitsmayonlybeusedinanindustrialenvironmentasapartofamachine.ThemachinehastobedevelloppedaccordingtotheEG-Directives2006/42/EG.Thisistoguaranteethecompatibilityofmachines. 1.3 The operator’s obligations
InaccordancewithEUDirective89/655/EECArt.6(1)and7onUseofWorkEquipmentandEUDirective89/391/EECArt.1(1)and6(1),theoperatorisobligedtoinstruct,inparticularwithregardtosafety,staffwhoareinvolvedwithassembly,operation,maintenance,repairordisassemblyofalinearunit.InaccordancewithEUDirective89/655/EECArt.4a(UseofWorkEquipment),theoperatorisalsoobligedtocheckthemachinebeforeinitialstart-upandafterrepairsandanymalfunctioning.
1.4 Operating staff
Thelinearunitshavebeenconstructedaccordingtostate-of-the-artprinciplesandrecognizedsafetyregulations.Nevertheless,dangermaystillbeassociatedwiththeiruse.Therefore,themachineshouldonlybeoperatedbycompetentandtrainedstaffandonlyusedinaccordancewiththeirintendeduse.Anypersoninvolvedwithassembly,operation,maintenanceordisassemblyofalinearunitofmachinemusthavereadandunderstoodthisinstructionmanual,inparticularChapter1“Safety”.
Work on conductive parts, which are never supplied by Almotion, e.g: • installationofsafetylimitswitches,• installationofadriveandtestingofitsdirectionofrotation,should be done by trained electricians only !

Notes and signs for risks and danger zones Thelinearunitsaredesignedtobesafe.However,shouldtherebeanyremainingrisksforpersonsorproperty,theusermustindicatetheserisksbytheuseofsignsorwritteninstructionsonprocedures.
Signs and adhesive labelsKeepmarks,signsandadhesivelabelssothattheycanbereadinfullandalwaysfollowthem.Replacedamagedorillegiblesignsandlabels.Warrantyclaimscanonlybetakeninconsiderationiftheoriginallabelwiththeserialnumberisattachedontheunit.
1.5 Modificationsandalterations
ThelinearunitsmaynotbemodifiedneitherforconstructionnorsafetyreasonswithoutwrittenapprovalofAlmotion.Anyunauthorizedmodificationwillvoidourliability.Wearingpartsandsparepartsmayonlybereplacedbyourserviceengineersthemselvesorafterconsultingourservicedepartment.ThenewcomponentstobeusedmustalwaysbeapprovedinwritingbythemanufacturerIngeneral,safetyorprotectiondevicesmaynotberemovedormadeinactive.Ifspecialadd-onpartsareused,followthemanufacturer’sassemblyinstructions.The following regulations apply: • Relevantaccidentpreventionregulations.• Generallyacceptedsafetyregulations.• EUDirectives.• Nationalregulations.
1.6 Warranty
Thewarrantyconditionsarelaiddowninthetermsandconditionsofdeliveryandpaymentissuedattimeoftheorder.Anyclaimforwarrantyisvoidedif:• themachinehasnotbeusedinaccordancewithitsintendeduse,• theinstructionsstatedinthisinstructionmanualhavenotbeenfollowed,• theunithasbeenmodifiedwithoutthemanufacturer’spermission,• thescrewssealedbylockingvarnishareunlocked.• theoriginallabelwiththeserialnumberisnotattachedontheunit.Themanufacturerisonlyliableiforiginalsparepartshavebeenusedformaintenanceandrepairwork.

2.7 Toothed belt AT5 and AT10
Tomakesurethetoothedbelthasthecorrectpre-tensionitisadvisedtouseatoothedbelttensiongauge.ForexampletheContitechVSM1tensiongaugefordrivebelts.Ifit’snotavailable,pleasecontactyoursupplier.
2.8 Hardened wheels
Thehardenedwheelsarecorrectlyadjusted,ifyoucanblockthemwithyourfingers(withsomeeffort)whilepushingthecarriage.Ifyouwantmoreinformationaboutthis,pleasecontactyoursupplier.
3 Lubrication LubricationDuringoperation,occasionallycheckthecorrectfunctionofthelineardriveunitbyvisualinspection. Lubricationisonlyrequiredifyouhavearecirculatingballrailguideunit.Ifyouwantanexactcalculationofthelubricationinterval,pleasecontactyoursupplier.

4 Alignment
Alinearactuatorwithanintegratedguideusedinasingle-axisconfigurationonlyneedstomeetpositioningexpectations.Thealignmentprocessisstraightforwardastheactuatorworkssingularlybringingitsloadintopositionwithoutanyexternalguidance.Examplesare,work-point-to-work-pointoralignment-to-fixturingontheequipment.Alignmentoflinearactuatorsinmulti-axisconfigurationsbecomesmorechallengingasmultipleactuatorsneedtoworktogether.Therefore,mountingmustconsiderconditionsofparallelismandperpendicularityofalljoineddevicesforoptimalperformanceandmaximumservicelife.
Parallelism Therearethreevariablesthatcanaffectparallelismwhenmountinglinearactuators.Answeringthesequestionswillmaximizeparallelismandsystemperformance.
Carriages at the same heightMisalignmentinthisplanewillputanunfavorableMx-axisbendingmomentonthebearingsystemofoneorbothunits.
Consistent distance between the units.Misalignmentinthisplanewillapplyanunfavorablesideload.

Units must be mounted level
AngularmisalignmentinthewillapplyanunfavorablebendingmomentintheMy-axisonthebearingsystemofbothunits.
Actualtolerancesrelatedtoalignmentrecommendationsandmountingvaryfromactuatorseries.Profileballrailsystemstendtobequiterigidandalignmentismorecritical.Guidewheelunitsoftenhaveclearance,whichoffersomeforgivenessinalignment.
Wheninstallinglinearactuatormountingsystemsthereareanumberofmeasurementtoolsrangingfromgaugestolasersystems.AlwayscreateoneaxisasareferencefortheX-YandZplanesandmounttheotherunitswithrespecttothereferenceaxis.Doingsowillhelptogetthemaximumperformanceandlongestlifefromyourlinearunit.
ConclusionSystemperformanceandlinearactuatorlifeareaffectedinmanywayswhenlineararenotmountedwell.Optimalsystemandlinearactuatorperformancecanbeachievediftheactuatorandguidancesystemarecarefullymountedsotheactuatorsareinperfectalignment.
5 Mounting of the unit
Thelinearunitmustalwaysbefastenedoncleanandlevelsurfaces.
Ourlinearunitisa“partlycompletedmachinery”asdescribedintheEuropeanUnionMachineryDirective2006/42/EC.Thelinearunitcannotperformitself.Thelinearunitisonlyintendedtobeincorporatedintoorassembledwithothermachineryorpartlycompletedmachineryorequipment,therebyformingmachinerytowhichthisDirectiveapplies.
