Sept. 15 with a free lunch of chicken tacos, corn chips with salsa and bean dip, salads, fresh fruit, and root beer floats with Sweetie Fry ice cream.

After lunch, there will be crafts and games for all ages, including a piñata, Cake Walk*, and guessing games. Bring a camera with a memory card (cell phone photos won’t work) and share your photos throughout the day to help create a special festival keepsake! 4-WEEK BOOK STUDY COMING:Enough: Discovering Joy Through Simplicity And Generosity

Sundays, Sept. 29 – Oct. 20, 5:00 – 7:00 pm

Enough explores our anxiety about money, and invites discussion and prayer about our place as Christians in a culture defined by the acquisition of "things." We possess more and more, yet feel less and less at ease. The Stewardship ministry invites you to read this simple and fairly short book, view the accompanying video tapes, and join Pastor John Lentz in discussing God's call in our lives for good stewardship. The group will meet for four weeks beginning Sunday, Sept. 29 from 5-7 pm and continuing on Oct. 6, 13, and 20. This small group book study is limited to only 20 participants, so reserve your spot as soon as possible. Twenty books, costing $10 each, have been ordered, but don't let the cost keep you from joining us. Reserve your spot by emailing our office administrator, Lynda Bernays, or Pastor Lentz.

LABRE Participants: Kick-Off PicnicCan you help? Our Labre East Cleve. Hunger Project is ramping up! Along with our partnering organization, Our Family Home Center, we’re planning a picnic dinner in East Cleveland on Sunday, Sept. 29. The dinner will be at the empty lot at Page and Euclid—the future site of a new community garden! But we really need volunteers to join the planning committee. Can you help? Call or email Jack Breisch, 440.241.5149 or [email protected]

The LessonsToday’s Scripture:Luke 14:1, 7-14On one occasion when Jesus was going to the house of a leader of the Pharisees to eat a meal on the sabbath, they were watching him closely.

When he noticed how the guests chose the places of honor, he told them a parable. ‘When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet, do not sit down at the place of honor, in case someone more distinguished than you has been invited by your host; and the host who invited both of you may come and say to you, “Give this person your place”, and then in disgrace you would start to take the lowest place. But when you are invited, go and sit down at the lowest place, so that when your host comes, he may say to you, “Friend, move up higher”; then you will be honored in the presence of all who sit at the table with you. For all who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.’

He said also to the one who had invited him, ‘When you give a luncheon or a dinner, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, in case they may invite you in return, and you would be repaid. But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.’

Luke 10: 29-37But wanting to justify himself, he asked Jesus, ‘And who is my neighbor?’ Jesus replied, ‘A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell into the hands of robbers, who stripped him, beat him, and went away, leaving him half dead. Now by chance a priest was going down that road; and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan while travelling came near him; and when he saw him, he was moved with pity. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, having poured oil and wine on them. Then he put him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii, gave them to the innkeeper, and said, “Take care of him; and when I come back, I will repay you whatever more you spend.” Which of these three, do you think, was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of the robbers?’ He said, ‘The one who showed him mercy.’ Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’

Next Sunday: Jeremiah 2: 4-13; Psalm 81: 1, 10-16; Hebrews 13: 1-8, 15-16; Luke 14: 1, 7-14. As part of your daily devotions, read the lessons. What image 10

The five-member GCC Core Team is happy to announce that Session approved its participation in the Greater Cleveland Congregations - a non-partisan coalition of faith communities and partner organizations working together to build power for social justice. By uniting people across lines of race, class, religion, and geography to promote public, private and civic sector actions, GCC aims to strengthen and improve the quality of life of our neighborhoods.

The initial members of FHC’s GCC Core Team - Jennifer Blakeney, Mark Chupp, Dick Obermanns, Sharon Shumaker, and Diana Woodbridge - extend an open invitation for others to join them in this effort.

Watch for more information and save the date of Sunday, Sept. 22 for a special introduction to our GCC mission!
