Heavenly Father, we have sinned against you and
against our neighbour in thought and word and deed,through negligence, through weakness, through our own
deliberate fault;
16
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
by what we have done and by what we have failed to do.
We are truly sorry and repent of all our sins.
17
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ who died for us, forgive us all that is past; and grant that we may serve you
in newness of life to the glory of your name. Amen.
18
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
Almighty God, who forgives all who truly repent, have mercy on us,
pardon and deliver us from all our sins,
confirm and strengthen us in all goodness,
and keep us in eternal life;through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
19
Service of the Word 14th September 2014 21
Almighty God, who called your Church to bear witness that you were in Christ reconciling the world to yourself:Help us to proclaim the good news of your love, that all who hear it may be drawn to you;through him who was lifted up on the cross,and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,one God, now and for ever. Amen.
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
21 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, ‘Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?’22 Jesus answered, ‘I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

23 ‘Therefore, the kingdom of heaven is like a king who wanted to settle accounts with his servants. 24 As he began the settlement, a man who owed him ten thousand bags of gold was brought to him. 25 Since he was not able to pay, the master ordered that he and his wife and his children and all that he had be sold to repay the debt.
24
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
26 ‘At this the servant fell on his knees before him. “Be patient with me,” he begged, “and I will pay back everything.” 27 The servant’s master took pity on him, cancelled the debt and let him go.28 ‘But when that servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred silver coins.
25
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
He grabbed him and began to choke him. “Pay back what you owe me!” he demanded.29 ‘His fellow servant fell to his knees and begged him, “Be patient with me, and I will pay it back.”30 ‘But he refused. Instead, he went off and had the man thrown into prison until he could pay the debt.
26
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
31 When the other servants saw what had happened, they were outraged and went and told their master everything that had happened.32 ‘Then the master called the servant in. “You wicked servant,” he said, “I cancelled all that debt of yours because you begged me to.
27
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
33 Shouldn’t you have had mercy on your fellow servant just as I had on you?” 34 In anger his master handed him over to the jailers to be tortured, until he should pay back all he owed.35 ‘This is how my heavenly Father will treat each of you unless you forgive your brother or sister from your heart.’

‘How deep the Father’s love for
us’
Church HymnalNo. 224
CCL:
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
1 How deep the Father’s love for us,how vast beyond all measure,
that he should give his only Sonto make a wretch his treasure!
How great the pain of searing loss:the Father turns his face away
as wounds which mar the chosen one
bring many sons to glory!
56
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
2 Behold the man upon a cross,my sin upon his shoulders;
ashamed, I hear my mocking voicecall out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held him thereuntil it was accomplished;
his dying breath has brought me life –
I know that it is finished.
57
Service of the Word 14th September 2014
3 I will not boast in anything,no gifts, no power, no wisdom;but I will boast in Jesus Christ,
his death and resurrection.Why should I gain from his
reward?I cannot give an answer;
but this I know with all my heart,his wounds have paid my ransom.

back into the narrow way.Days of darkness still may meet
me,sorrow’s path I oft may tread;
but His presence still is with me,by His guiding hand I’m led.
