WecurrentlyuseMaterialMasters(type:DIEN)forprocurementofallexternalservices.I'vebeentolditwasn'tagoodpracticeandthatServiceMastersshouldbeadaptedforthispurpose.Isthatso?IamnowpreparingabusinesscaseforimplementationofServiceMasters.WhatbenefitsarethereforusingtheServiceMastersandServiceTypePurchaseOrdersinsteadofDIENMaterialMasters?

Hello,AsperStd.SAPwehaveExternalServiceManagementinMMtohandleServiceProcurement.Sinceweareprocuringaservice,wecanhandlethesamethroughServicemastersratherthanmaterialmaster(DIEN).Ifweusematerialmaster(DIEN)wefollowthenormalprocedureofPOMIGO&MIRO.ButifweactivateExternalservicemanagementbyusingServicemasters,wehavefollowthebelowmentionedprocessCreateServicePOReleaseServicePOCreateServiceEntrySheetDoserviceEntryAcceptanceMIROwithreferencetoServiceEntrysheet.Usingtheaboveprocesswehavetheadvantageofusingserviceentrysheetcreation&acceptanceinsteadwherewecandoacceptanceaspertheservicerenderedbyvendor.Alsoifrequiredwehavetheoptionofconfiguringreleaseprocedureforserviceentrysheetssothatbeforeacceptingtheservicewecandoavalidationbasedonwhichpaymenttothevendorwillbemade.Hopeitsclear.Thanks&Regards,

InMM,thereasubmodulecalledexternalservicemanagementanditcatersforservices.Oneoftheadvantagesofservicemasterisreporting.servicemastershasadifferentnumberrangeandmaterialmaster(DIEN)hasthesamematerialnumberwithstockmaterials.Servicemastersaremainlyusedtodifferenciateduringreporting.

Thankyoueveryoneforyouranswers.Iam,however,moreinterestedinthepotentialbenefitsratherthantheprocessofcreationofSMs.WhyisitabadpracticetohaveMMDIENssetupforexternallyprocuredservices?Thematerialnumberrangeforservicesisdifferent,thereportsarebasedonSAPproducthierarchy(oneofthefieldsintheMMbasicview)andseemtobefairlyaccurate.Whyswitchtoservicemasters?
