What is an EAP?

Proactively supporting employees will benefit your business.ICAS International has developed a way to protect one of the most valuable assets to your business, your people.

Employee Assistance Programmes, (EAPs), are introduced by companies to provide help to their employees in all personal circumstances. Its purpose is to help support;enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of the employees, in order to increase and maintain the productivity of the company itself. Our programmes have been specifically developed to provide support and guidance to employees to help them deal with issues that could adversely affect their health, wellbeing and impact on their job performance.

In the average workplace:

of employees have experienced symptoms of poor mental health.***

96%

48% of workers worry about money, losing 6 productive days annually**

Findings like these indicate the importance of investing in employee wellbeing. Implementing an EAP within an organisation will assist employees' psychological and general wellbeing in the workplace. It will also help them tackle their individual life challenges as well as promoting health, fitness and nutrition.

e|Care

e|Care is an innovative and valuable employee engagement service. It is an online employee engagement programme provided via an interactive portal, a mobile app and weekly Health Bytes (emails).

The e|Care portal is ideally suited to clients who wish to use technology to provide innovative access to services. It includes a downloadable app (for phone/iPad/tablet) that provides ease of access to services to satisfy a mobile workforce and increase awareness and uptake of service offerings

Communication Platform for Employee Engagement, Education and Empowerment

The e|Care programme is your platform to communicate with your employees. The e|Care service offers the following unique benefits that no other provider can offer: Unlimited access to an interactive health and wellbeing portal. Weekly customised and personalised Health Bytes. Individual wellness assessments and reports to raise awareness for change.

Opt-in behaviour change email series. Health tools, quizzes, and calculators. ‘Ask the professional’ advisory service offering responses to individuals’ questions within 48 hours from our panel of experts including doctors, fitness experts, counsellors and dietitians. Fully adaptable to mobile devices. Insightful reporting, powerful data extracts and risk profiling to enable strategic insight and specific targeted interventions.

The e|Care service encompasses the full spectrum of work, life, health and wellness topics that provide employees with personalised information, practical tools, resources, knowledge, and motivation to live healthier, more productive lives. Multimedia delivery – via: • Internet, • Email, • Social media, and • Print materials

of targeted wellness communication ensures that lifestyle and wellness is incorporated into employees’ lives during working hours and beyond. e|Care’s innovative online wellbeing

solutions incorporate ongoing email communications designed to increase the participation and value of the online service through personalisation and customisation.  Personalisation: The path to behaviour change and healthy decision-making  A unique and powerful feature of e|Care is that the delivery of the weekly Health Byte (email) is always tailored to an individual’s personal health and psychosocial risk profile. The advantage of this is that only targeted and relevant information is sent to each individual. These communications thus offer each employee the opportunity to receive information and recommendations aimed at their own personal issues and topics that they prefer to read about on an ongoing basis.  Profiling and Behavioural Wellness Assessments

Members are encouraged to complete their profiles and a wellness assessment on the e|Care portal in order to receive a comprehensive report on their current health status and future risks. This data also allows e|Care to deliver personalised Health Bytes (emails) which assist employees with making lifestyle choices to reduce their risk of disease. Each individual’s personal profile and behavioural and health risks drives a series of wellness articles which will enable employees to better understand their specific psychosocial, health, wellness, and disease issues. This extension of the profiling process includes personalised and detailed reports that identify risk and focus on opportunities for change.

People who have seen the benefit

Our global Employee Assistance Programmes have become a valuable support tool within companies across the world. Here are

some examples of how our EAPs have provided help and support.

An industrial company wanted to roll out the EAP to 27 countries. It was decided that it would be launched in 3 phases over a 5 month period, focussing on the

larger countries first. The launch included a toolkit for managers and HR, webinars and launch materials in 32 languages.

A request came from our partners in America to help support a group of students who had witnessed a fatality and required on-site support. They were in a remote location not far from Kilimanjaro, but a 3 hour drive from the nearest airport. Within 48 hours a clinician from our office in Johannesburg arrived to provide support to the students.

A major bank in the Middle East ran an onsite Biometric Screening campaign in a bid to help their staff live healthier lives.

Of the 2,000 employees screened (61% of total employees), 76% had high risk BMI, 63% high risk glucose levels, 41% high risk cholesterol and 61% were high in two or more risk factors.

So the bank took the following action:

 • Reviewed the company canteen menu with a focus on improving the nutritionalvalue ofthe food • They launched a nutritional awareness campaign {all staff received a bank branded cooler bag with fruit, water and fruit drink) • Ran a smokingcessation programme • Schedule in another Biometric Screening campaign to monitor improvements • They have also considered a Stress Management programme
