BY WHAT AUTHORITY?
Jesus was asked this question by the chief priests and elders just fol-lowing His triumphal entry in Matthew 21:23. They wanted to know who gave Him power to do the miracles and teach the way He did. Of course Jesus had
an answer for them that confounded their worldly wisdom because He really did not owe them an answer.
Authority becomes a serious question when discussing things biblical. Locus of authority matters. If I am in Russia, the laws that govern the United
States do not matter. I am under the rule of Russia and subject to their laws. To argue from the US constitution would not sway anyone legally speaking. No in reality we are all under the authority of Jesus Christ as shared in the New Testament. There are some who reject that notion. Though they are
wrong, attempts to prove the truth using the Bible will fail in their minds. They are filled with false wisdom based on faulty reasoning that denies the va-lidity and therefore the authority of the Bible. This is a deluding influence but
one that must be understood if Christians hope to be fruitful in the lives of those around us.
We must first recognize the proper authority. We cannot produce it but we must convince others of its validity. We do that by knowing why we be-
lieve. Be able to convince yourself the Bible is what it claims and then you can convince someone else. (Not everyone else; even Jesus could not do that.)
The world has produced its evidence and has convinced masses of peo-ple their lie is true. They have the wrong authority, pseudo-scientists, worldly philosophers, and movie/tv directors in Hollywood seem to guide the hearts, morals, and minds of many in our world today. Until we direct minds and
hearts back to the Bible the world’s moral climate will not get any better be-cause their wisdom is based on the wrong authority.
Only by the authority of God preserved in the Bible will things ever change for the better.

Who Has The Time?
Most of us live time-conscious lives. We stick to tight schedules,
glance at our clocks frequently, and hurry around to meet our ap-pointments and deadlines. Time is certainly important, but the re-
al value of time comes with the realization that our time here on earth is a countdown to eternity. Since life is short (James 4:13-14), what should we be doing with our time? Jesus says to put the kingdom of God first in your priorities (Matt. 6:33). That means in-fluencing and teaching the lost (Matt. 28:18-20). He wants them taught before time runs out (Titus 2:11-14; 2 Thess. 1:7-10). What
are you doing with your time? Matt Clifton, Bulletin Digest
