GOD’S GIFT FOR GIFTING

February 12th $ 6, 356. 00 Last Year $ 7, 335. 00

Most of us are so busy every day that we barelycomplete the basic demands and tasks of dailyliving. We might even find ourselvesthinking/saying/being satisfied with taking care oflife with a "lick and a promise." The gospelchallenges us to go about living with a greaterpurpose. Jesus is hardly a model for giving thingsa "lick and a promise," but rather for walking the

extra mile. For example, he looked at the hated Romans andpagans and saw not enemies but children of God. He saw lepersnot as outcasts but as those deserving compassion and care. Hehanded over not his cloak but his very life. In all these and otherways he made visible the Father's holiness and perfection. Gospelliving calls us to readjust radically how we live. We are not to besatisfied with minimums, not to be stuck in socially accepted ways ofresponding to others, and not to be limited in our loving. We readjustour way of living by paying much more attention to the way Jesushimself lived. The poor, the sick, the downtrodden, the needy, enemies, those who persecute us -indeed, our very own familymembers, coworkers, and friends - all cry out to us for our loveand care. This is how, concretely, we respond to Jesus' commandto "be perfect."

Love and PrayersFr. Sean

Just drop your ticketsinto the collection basket during Mass, or send them or dropthem off to the Rectory (mark the envelope “Calendar Raffle”).If you need more tickets, they are available in the Rectory. YOU must be in it to win it!

LOAVES AND FISHESThank you to all of our parishioners who graciouslydonate to our food pantry each month. Nextweekend is our monthly food collection. Any non-perishable items are needed. May God continue to

bless you & your families for your kindness.

LITURGY CORNERHere are four reasons to refresh your enthusiasmfor attending Mass: 1. Meet God in the flesh.Just because you don’t feel the rush of the HolySpirit or see a radiant light doesn’t mean nothing

is happening at Mass. He is there in the flesh. 2. You’re abaptized person needed by your community: “For wheretwo or three are gathered together in my name, there am I inthe midst of them” (Matthew 18:20). We help worship God justby being there. 3. You get something to take home withyou. The homily joins the Gospel message with the here andnow of our lives. Its purpose is to give us something to thinkabout and act on in the coming week. 4. “Do this in memoryof me” is one of the only direct orders Jesus gave to hisfollowers. This means God is the one who initiates thisencounter with us. And when God asks us to do something,we should do it! Have a blessed week! Lisa

FAITH AT HOME

Christians are called to live by the wisdom offaith, not by the wisdom of the world. This meansshowing love in place of hate, generosity inplace of selfishness. Adults: What is one thing I

can do this week to remember to respond to hostilesituations with love rather than anger or frustration?Children: What is one thing I can do this week to begenerous instead of selfish? A Family Perspective: Familylife teaches us many things. It is often at home that welearn practical skills such as cooking, riding a bike, andmaking repairs. Talk about some of the things that themembers of your family have learned to do at home. Wealso learn about caring at home. Talk about times whenyou have learned a lesson about sharing, forgiving, orloving through an experience that happened at home.Talk about how love is the most important thing a familycan share with one another. Explain that it is the same inGod’s family. Read aloud this Sunday’s Gospel, Matthew5:38–48. Talk about how Jesus tried to teach his discipleshow to love others beyond those who are closest tothem. Jesus tells them to love even their enemies. Asmembers of God’s family, we are called to do the samething. Talk about some concrete ways you can “love yourenemies and pray for those who persecute you”. Remindyour children that Jesus does not expect us to be perfect.Jesus knows that we are human and will not always doeverything correctly. Explain that what Jesus wants us todo is to love others as if they were Jesus himself. If wereach out in love to others, we are doing exactly whatJesus did. That is what perfection looks like. In the home:Each day this week, go out of your way to sharesomething you really love with other family members. Inthe workplace or in school: Practice being kind this week:Open doors for people with their hands full; complimentothers on their appearance; make coffee when the pot isempty. And don’t look for praise! May you and yourfamily have a wonderful and blessed week! Lisa
