Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I came across an interesting concept this week - “The Three Rules of Simplic-ity” from the book Keep It Simple by Joe Calloway. I thought that it was some-thing worthwhile to share. One of Mr. Calloway’s quotes is “Unclutter your mind to uncomplicate your life.” He asks the question, “Have you ever said to yourself, ‘This feels far more complicated than it needs to be?’” He goes on to say that cluttered processes are the enemies of control in your life and your business. Using simplification and focus as pillars and by elimi-nating distractions and focusing on the task at hand, you can streamline your processes and get results. If you want to create positive growth and change within your work, home, and overall routine, remove the obstacles that you have created for yourself. A flamethrower is not as effective at getting through a wall as a blow torch. The ability to focus your mind and actions allows for the most impactful change. When asked what the author of Keep It Simple hoped, here's what he said: Even in a world that becomes more complex every day, you have the power to simplify your life and your work. You simplify by getting focused on what matters most, by getting clarity on what is truly important. When you simplify, you are more productive, less stressed, and life and work become more fulfilling.
"The Three Rules of Simplicity" One of my clients is a national trucking company. This is a business that involves logistics, systems, schedules, and details that could easily become overwhelmingly complicated. Yet this trucking company, which is one of the largest in the country, has harnessed the power of simplicity and focus to drive consistent success for years. They have boiled it down to three simple rules that they abide by every single day.
Pick it up when you said you would. Deliver it when you said you would. Deliver it intact and all there.
A successful drive-in restaurant chain has done much the same in getting clarity on what is most important:
Give customers the freshest, highest quality food they can buy. Provide meals with friendly service. Serve in a comfortable, sparkling clean environment.
These companies are great examples of the power of having a team with a shared, and sim-ple, vision. It's quite easy to come up with a wordy, complicated vision, mission, or goal. It's much more challenging to create a goal that is simple and easy to understand. Resist the temptation to overthink things. Boil it down to the essence of what matters most. We should strive to focus on the essential and minimize the rest. So, what are the three most important things in your life, your work, or your business?

HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL STOCK THE BAR PARTY Saturday, Febru-ary 23, 2019, at 6:00 p.m. in St. Francis Hall. Come help stock the bar for the HFS 2019 Silent Auction. Bring a bottle of wine or spir-its valued at least $15, $15 in cash or a $15 gift card to enjoy good food, excellent company and a great time. Each bottle brought to the event will be used as a “key” item at the silent auction, and the gift cards will be used in baskets at the auction. Please RSVP to Vickie Marks at [email protected] if you plan to attend.
You can stop overcomplicating. Boil it down to those three most important things that you must do well every day to create suc-cess, happiness or fulfillment. This can, and should, take some time and thought, but it's well worth the effort. As we get closer to the beginning of Lent beginning on Ash Wednesday, March 6, perhaps this would be something to work toward in our spiritual life — what are the three things that would help us create a right relationship with God. You are in my prayers and thoughts each day. May this week be filled with God’s blessings and joys. HOLY FAMILY SCHOOL NEEDS YOUR HELP for our 27th Annual
Silent Auction, The Speakeasy Soiree, April 6 at the Jaycees Build-ing on Airport Road. We are looking for corporate sponsors, do-nors, and items to offer for bid. If you would like to help, please stop by the school office or call 256-539-5221. Tickets will go on sale February 11. Contact the school office for details.
