From The TableA Wider ChurchIf you’re like me, reports and images of re-cord-breaking flooding coming in from Baton Rouge have been shocking and heart-wrench-ing. You may be wondering what we, as the Body of Christ, can do to help communities devastated by flooding. As the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we share in the life-changing ministry of Week of Compas-sion, our disaster response and global development fund. Not only do we support Week of Compassion with a special offering every February, but in times of significant disaster, we are invited to sup-port the work of Week of Compassion in areas of impact. I’ve seen the work of Week of Compassion and its partners in action, and I know the work we do as a church through this fund is impactful and important. I invite you to consider supporting communities impact-ed by flooding by donating, either online at www.weekofcompas-sion.org or by dropping a gift, designated for Week of Compassion, in the offering plate this week.Week of Compassion’s response to disaster and long term sustain-able development is not the only way that we strive to be a church beyond our local congregation. On October 7-8, The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Tennessee will gather for its Regional Assembly at Henry Horton State Park in Chapel Hill, TN. The assembly’s programming will focus on issues surrounding Race,

Racism, and Reconciliation. There will be workshops, opportunities for fellowship and conversation, as well as creative, deeply spiritual opportunities to worship. I’ll be there, and I hope many of you will, too. For more information and to register, go to the Regional Website: www.ccdctn.org.We had a terrific time with our children and youth at High Point Climbing Gym. There was some-thing for kids of all ages and skill levels, and our group found ways to have lots fun together. We’re continuing to focus on activities that all of our children and youth, from pre-school to high school, can do together—whether a fun adventure or a special service project. If you have a child or know a child who would like to be involved, make sure that Rev. Jonathan or Kyle Cutsinger, who directs our ministries with families and children, have their parents’ contact information so they can be included. We’re completing our sermon series on Evangelism, “From Me To We” this Sunday with a fresh look at the call to the prophet Jeremi-ah. Join us as we explore how his call is our call, as well.Grateful to be in ministry with you, Brandon
