To be understanding when they may have a more difficult time being in a celebrative mood or may have difficulty in attending or being a part of celebrations. I pray that all of these special moments are a true blessing and joyous moments of celebration and memories. I also pray that those who are grieving losses, whatever they might be, will also know the love and compassion of a brother or sister in Jesus, and more importantly, the love and compassion of our Lord Himself! Servant Thoughts May brings more than just flowers… it usually brings with it a lot of important

events in the lives of family and friends. Confirmations, Graduations, Mother’s

Day, Weddings, Reunions, etc. Most of the time these are very happy and

exciting events in our lives. We get to gather and celebrate and enjoy being

with family and friends and honor special people in our lives. But… these are

not always happy occasions for some.

Sometimes these bring painful reminders of losses in our lives. The loss of a

loved one who won’t be with us this time. A damaged or broken relationship

that becomes evident when someone who is usually there isn’t because of the

tension in the relationship. I in no way want to suggest that we do anything to

downplay or not celebrate these momentous moments or special people. I

would guess that even those who might be hurting or grieving some kind of

loss would probably agree. But I do think it is important to be agents of God’s

grace to those who might be hurting or struggling during those times. To be

understanding when they may have a more difficult time being in a celebrative

mood or may have difficulty in attending or being a part of celebrations. I don’t

think that involves leaving them out or not inviting them for fear of hurting

someone further. Instead, seek to be a friend who offers a listening ear and

seeks to care and show love. That expression of concern will often not only be

of great help to the one who is suffering a loss, it will also help you to be able

to celebrate knowing that you have shown the love of Christ to one in need. I

pray that all of these special moments are a true blessing and joyous

moments of celebration and memories. I also pray that those who are grieving

losses, whatever they might be, will also know the love and compassion of a

brother or sister in Jesus, and more importantly, the love and compassion of

our Lord Himself!

Pastor Bill’s Musings

Dear Christian Friends,

As I write this news article, I am thinking back to last Sunday which brought an end to Lent and Holy Week and to

the commemoration of the most glorious days of all human history, Easter. When I left home at 5:30, the sky was

pitch black with just the faintest touch of light on the eastern horizon. Even though this was Easter morning, I was

in a bit of a funk. Jackie would be arriving at Trinity in another hour and I was on my way to Merna to conduct ser-

vices there. This marked the first time in 40 years that we did not attend Easter worship together. I really felt

alone.

As I left the valley and entered the hills, each mile the faint touch of light in the east became the tiniest bit brighter.

Seeing that change made me think of Mary Magdalene who was rushing to the tomb to tend to Jesus’ lifeless body.

She must have been feeling alone also. What was she thinking? On Friday afternoon she watched Him give up his

spirit, the soldier piece his side, and his crucified body taken by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus to be laid in

the tomb.

Even though he told them many times over that he would rise from the dead on the third day, it seemed that no-

body believed what he had told them. Can you imagine what Mary felt when she found the tomb empty? Still the

disciples did not believe that he had risen. They assumed that someone had stolen his body, but as Mary was sit-

ting there weeping, he appeared to her. Now the gloom of that darkest of weeks was over. It was finished.

Somehow, as the night turned into day, my so called “funk” was lifted. My short separation from my wife didn’t

seem as bad. In fact, nothing seemed as bad. Christ took care of all of that. He fulfilled the promise. He is all that

really matters. I began to feel what Mary, Peter and all the disciples experienced that day.

Alleluia! Christ is risen. His is risen indeed, Alleluia.
